  1. This morning I noticed my dog had a piece of skin hanging off from his nose and it turns out it's somehow been scraped off and about 5mm is holding it on there. I have no idea how he did it, but underneath the open flap the skin is raw and there's a bit of blood when I dabbed at it with a tissue. Just wondering if anyone had this happen to their dog before and whether I am able to leave it, apply lucas paw paw or bring him into the vet? The only thing is I can't get him in to the vet until the weekend. I called the reception and they said not to pull it off but to leave it. I was just worried because it's in a precarious place coz he can easily lick it and I can't stop him from sniffing around.. I just don't want it to get infected ><
  2. Yup - seconding what stormie said, mine wees more, drinks more and is a hungry little tyrant ^^
  3. In my experience powder didn't work but liquid did. I use Synflex.
  4. Hi just thought I'd update how things are. So I stopped the VAN and the rashes started to subside. Now several days on his skin is no longer itchy when I rub it! Glad I could be of help Skruffy.. if u did want though, since all dogs are different as you can tell by others saying their dogs have seen success with the product, I could give you some to try? I've got more than half a bag of the complete mix sitting here.. duno what to do with it O_o
  5. My vet also put my dog on rest due to a knee and back issue however I felt it was important to get him some exercise so that his muscles didn't waste and so the vet okayed a few short walks a day. With his case it was said going down stairs wasn't a problem but coming up them. We've blocked the stairs leading into the garden (ours is also 15 or so steps). It is important to run the idea of the walks by your vet though (give them a call and ask over the phone). Also what type of anti-inflammatories are they if you're still on them? I had my dog on Rimadyl and that did nothing for his leg so the vet changed him to Macrolone. It depends how your dog exhibits pain.. my dog is really lethargic when his pain meds don't work but when there's adequate relief he'd take any excuse to bound here and there. Nevertheless his leg is still much better than before despite being active on it, so you might want to have a look at whether the anti-inflamm ur on is effective? If ur no longer on conventional meds for anti-inflammatory support you could consider fish oil?
  6. This happened to my dog from when he was a puppy to around 3 or 4 years of age but now the problem's gone on its own. Someone once suggested it was due to a lack of calcium..? We never fed our dog puppy milk like they did but I never thought that was a necessary requirement??
  7. I got my calendula tea from GNC but other health food shops would have it too. Recently my boy has been having itchies that could not be relieved by the calendula but APEX lotion really did the trick. I've also tried aloe vera gel and paw paw ointment (the latter being too messy and sticky) before but they did little to relieve the urge to itch (apart from the aloe vera being cooling). I'd say try the calendula first as that has worked the best out of the natural remedies I've tried, if not the lotion I have has a numbing (anaesthetic) agent that diminishes the itch and redness too. Then again it isn't something you would want to rely on for long-term daily applications as constant use can have side effects =s
  8. I had my dog on Artemis maximal and fresh mix subsequently as they looked like the perfect dry food in theory however my dog's poos weren't great (loose and smelly) and he was getting the recommended amount on the pack and even then he was underweight (thats another story but just trying to say I wasn't feeding excess amounts as sagittarian suggested couldve been a reason for some). after a few months I changed to nutro and his poos immediately firmed up, the only thing is the amount was much more. The Artemis kibble is also really small and for my dog who tends to wolf down his food, nutro encourages him to chew a bit more. It really is different for every dog (which makes it kind of annoying when trying to get it right ><)
  9. I started my dog on van recently as he's had itchy skin for the greater part of his life (10 yrs) and was diagnosed with bacterial and fungal infections. The thing is the vet put him on antibiotics before I made the food change and that cleared everything up nicely. Then I was feeding him meat+ nutro kibble. Afterwards he was also put on cortisone for pain relief with another problem, which I was told would also help with itching (even though that was no longer a prob with the ABs). However after starting him on van to replace kibble he started itching on his belly and rubbing his face vigorously.. The ABs and cortisone have not helped. So I'm stopping van and putting him back on nutro just to confirm it was the van causing the prob. Then Im planning to bring him to a natural vet to get help drawing up a diet. Sometimes it might take a bit more work but if the easy way isn't helping ur dog then that acually makes things a lot harder
  10. My first post ^^ But something I think I can contribute too =) My dog has recently been put on cortisone (macrolone 20mg daily due to his case). It comes in a tiny blue tablet. Side effects included increased thirst and urination, insomnia.. (when he started out with 2 tabs a day); we're now on day 8 and we're seeing hyperactivity (jumping up on tables, bolting to the gate and chasing his tail when just days before he was quite lame from spinal and knee problems) and funnily enough a ravenous appetite like Diva mentioned!
