my dog has been fine with heartworm injections too. and we give it at the same time as his other injections.. never knew it was bad?

I use groomers evening primrose shampoo (regular not vet) and have found it works just as well or in fact even better than Malaseb, Aloveen, Eqyss Microtek in removing crusty lesions and calming irritated skin. I find it works fine in the summer without blow drying the dog but in the winter blow drying is advisable to allow the oils to absorb into the skin and not build up in the coat.

Holistic Select and Nutro kibble pieces are nice and big. Artemis not so. Benefit of Nutro is that it is cheaper, readily available and made in Aus. I get the weight maintenance, good coat and firm stools with Nutro. I always start with small bags.

those are exactly what my dog has. We have managed to minimise them through diet, regular baths (currently using Groomers Evening Primrose shampoo every 2-3weeks - at the beginning it was weekly) and robert mcdowell's herbal treatment which had the most significant results (conditioning mix in high doses.. we changed to blood poisoning now at a lower dose but he's getting the infection again so I might try up-ing it again) I've also found Apex antibiotic lotion from the vet helped with the itching but we are trialling a Neem oil wash now and that seems to work just as well but with the added benefit of being natural and an insect repellant (fleas included apparently)

oh my! that's officially scared the crap out of me... I am definitely not going to play around with bones anymore. Ppl keep saying it takes time.. it's common for dogs to vomit up bone they can't digest. But it just doesn't sit right with me when what's coming up are extremely sharp pieces of bone which I DONT WANT perforating my dog's GIT >< We all want to do what's best for our dogs but sometimes I wonder if it's worth messing around with their diet. Just imo after trying rmbs, barf and finally seeing the best results with good old fashioned dog kibble T_T

My dog vomits up very sharp shards of bone with roo tails and lamb necks. He's a gulper too. I've found lamb flaps and canned sardines are ok.. we have been keeping him off chicken to rule out any allergies but in the past chicken necks were ok.

In my experience yellow pools of vomit have been bile. I noticed they occurred especially with RMBs. I've stopped the harder bones and kept him to what he seems to tolerate (lamb flaps)

You have to call the NSW supplier and even then it may take a while. If your keen on samples you can contact the Victorian supplier and she's very helpful.

My dog is on thyroxine from the vet. 100 tablets costs around $35 and he's supposed to have them twice a day. he had a T4 of 7 (norm is 19+) and they want it up around 30. The thyroid acts really quickly on his back/joint pain. When I tried to cut it down to once a day he was lethargic and his tail kept curling underneath him as an expression of pain upon certain movement but after keeping to the twice daily dosage he was back to normal in a few days. The vet said his recurrent skin infections could be due to hypothyroidism but the thyroxine hasn't kept it at bay (I've had to use other things). My dog was really skinny when he was diagnosed as opposed to the common symptom of weight gain.

Yup he is expressing his anal glands >< my dog does the same (secreting smelly liquid which stuck to his bum and tail which he then tried to lick) and I find it depends on his diet. If his stools are firm then the anal glands should secrete with bowel motions naturally otherwise there is a build up and thus the stinky release on odd occasions.

I also find it slightly frustrating that senior dog kibbles are aimed at weight loss. My 11yo dog was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and he has lost a lot of weight (around 4kgs). Rather than a senior dry food Im using Nutro Lamb & Rice and barf patties and feeding him 1.5 of the recommended serves for his ideal weight per day (i.e. he requires 3 cups nutro or 500g barf patty daily so I give one full serve of dry or raw and then half of the other) which is helping to put back some weight.

When my dog had bad dandruff on his lower back (similar to what you are indicating) it was due to an inappropriate diet. I went through a few types of kibble before I found one that didn't make his coat go terribly dry (Eagle Pack fish) or hair drop out at an alarming rate (Pro Plan Sensitive). Black Hawk Holistic started to resolve the coat issues however it didnt suit his bowels (persistent loose motions) and now Nutro Lamb and Rice is maintaining both healthier coat and elimination. It does take a bit of trial and error with diet unfortunately especially as what suits some dogs might not suit others and you'll only know if you try.

I definitely wouldn't recommend a homecooked, single protein diet. Had my dog on that with added supplements for a while as part of my vet's cancer management diet regime and his stools became liquid, he had recurrent problems with his anal glands even with added pumpkin and vegetables, his lower back developed bad dandruff, the fur on the tip of his tail dropped off and open wounds kept forming there... it was a nightmare. After I went back to kibble the above mentioned issues resolved. I add "fresh foods" in the form of barf patties and occasional rmbs. Has she tried him on barf patties? Dr B's or Canine Country make them.

I have been adding more mince because his stools were too white. I've also stopped bones for a few days due to the constant vomiting of yellow-green liquid and bone shards - the latter of which was also in his poo. He'd vomit several hours after he's eaten. I'm continuing with the patties and will start to reintroduce the lamb necks. I'm ruling out roo tails because the bone is too hard for him (that's where the bone shards came from). The thing is even before I stopped the bones he started itching again and got a major hot spot on his leg. this time it doesn't seem like a detox but it could be. Recently he was on herbs which cleared up his skin and the detox from that was dry, slightly itchy scabs. These scabs which have popped up over his chest, armpit and legs are yellow and some pus-filled.. very similar to the past when he's had bacterial skin infections.... I'm starting to wonder if I should continue on raw. He doesn't like kibble but then getting a raw diet wrong could be worse then adding things to a reasonably good kibble. I don't know anymore.

Has anyone noticed the ingredients have changed. I contacted Kelly (NSW rep) and Sherel (VIC rep) and they confirmed there was a bit more protein and fat and the addition of emu oil. Thanks for replying! I had been giving him dried roo tail in the past with no problems but today I found he'd thrown up some sharp pieces so I'm thinking of stopping those.. He's had chicken necks all his life so he is used to them but I'd stopped giving him chicken to try and rule out intolerances due to skin issues. I'm currently giving him (throughout the week) barf patties, sardines and rmbs. He does tend to break off pieces with all his bones but will swallow most rather than grinding the bits down as he is more keen to get on with the rest of it (he's a speed eater). Also another thing. Stool issue ^^" I noticed the amount and size is alot smaller. It's like half a golf ball size and firm. The other day he had an issue with his anal glands and I'm not sure if its coincidental or if the stools arent enough to enable him to express his glands properly? (weird logic but I stand to be corrected) Before we had him on eagle pack and he never had an issue with his glands even when he started getting loose stools after a month on it

I know its a while since people have written in this thread but I hope u can help me out. We recently restarted our dog on an all raw diet. The problem I'm having is with bones as he tends to vomit small bits of what seems like cartilage after (does this with salmon and lamb necks). Today I gave him a raw roo tail (I used to give him dried ones and he had no problem) and I came back to find white foamy vomit over a few places. I'm a bit scared of him perforating something and if this vomiting or regurgitating continues it can't be good even if his stools are fine (much better actually!) and his skin and energy levels are maintained. Has this happened to others?

I'm using it on my 11yo cattle dog diagnosed with mild arthritis at the beginning of this year. Not sure if it actually makes a difference.. but in my case the arthritis isn't so much an issue for him.

I've actually kept my dog on EP anchovy~ ^^ He isn't dropping so much fur from his muzzle (thinking it was an adjustment period maybe?) and isn't itchy from it... in fact the funny thing is his itches (from suspected environmental and food allergies) seemed to have totally cleared up. I'm now definitely sticking with kibble as my base rather than making his food from scratch. also the uncle albers didn't work out (horrible farts!)

I'm beginning to think our cattle dog isn't 100% purebred. His body is taller and longer than other cattle dogs I see. He maintains a good lean weight at 21kg. Currently he's 19kg but his lower back and hip bones are sticking out ><

My dog recently had that coppery smell which I detested more than the fishy smell he had in the past. He was also licking at his bottom and stools were loose. I reintroduced kibble into his fresh food diet and the issue's resolved!! he was allergic (reactively itchy) to something in the VAN complete mix so a near full bag is still sitting in our cupboard D: i'd be happy to give it away to someone~

Glad u found a food that works for him My dog didn't like artemis fresh mix adult or maximal and they didn't help him maintain condition even at double the amount

I also had that problem with ep holistic anchovy. My dogs hair on his muzzle started falling out and he was very thirsty. Then again I was reintroducing kibble after several months of fresh foods. Still, makes me think the sodium content might be too high that he started losing hair :S I'm now trialling uncle Albers. His stools are fine (on ep they were good too and he had no itching).
