Hopefully I wasn't one that 'ignored' you. I made it a point to contact people although I did receive several text messages over the years with messages such as 'I would like to adopt a pug, do you have any?' or 'I am looking for a rescue pug can you call me'. Neither would likely get a response if it was by text. LOL! I've been getting some strange texts since PetRescue started sharing profiles on Trading Post. My favourite: Some person texts around 10pm (!!): "I want to buy the kitty you have on Trading Post" Me: "Which one are you asking about? We have more than 20 available for adoption." Person: "Just send photos of all of them and I'll pick one" Me: ........ Janey

It does behoove the owner to make an effort to update details although admittedly, some do make it hard. It's easy with CAR. You just update online. The NSW one on the other hand has no online database nor it seems any forms for an owner to update details. Same with the ACT for updating details. In NSW, the owner can get Form C3A from any Council to update their details. The NSW registration database is restricted to "Approved Persons" (councils, RSPCA, AWL and veterinarians who have applied to be an "Approved Person" and nobody else can access the database because pet ownership details are deemed "personal information".

I'd like to take a minute here to recognise and thank everyone who helped get Zeus to his carer. The folks from Needy Paws Rescue in Griffith sprung him from the pound and drove him to Narrandera, where I collected him and brought him to Wagga. Melindy, who is a member of BFPR, then gave temp care for a few weeks until he was vetworked and organised for transport to his AWDRI foster home. A great example of different groups working together to get a dog to safety

All Sorted Can Be Removed
JaneyA replied to efowler's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
The same thing happened to us a few weeks ago on a very busy and long run that required a driver change. The transport company sorted it out promptly . We're now looking into ways to put a temporary-yet-durable address/name tag on the dog. Maybe one of those plastic-coated paper collars with the info written in Texta. I know they don't stay on if the dog is determined to take it off, but maybe long enough. Anyone with other suggestions? -
Hi Maree, They're a group who have organised to promote dogs at Griffith Pound and help them get rescue. Most are former members of another well-known rescue group (edited to remove name) and some have joined BFPR. Janey

Puppy will be an inside dog, but we still want someone to check the home environment and particularly the houseyard and the pool fencing. Thanks in advance, Janey

Facebook Buy Swap And Sell Sites
JaneyA replied to pikespooches's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
A few months ago, I started commenting on the Wagga Buy Swap and Sell ads for puppies, warning of the chip legislation. The seller usually deleted my post quickly, but not before I copped so much hateful abuse from the BYBers that I had to quit doing it for my own sanity -
My rescue/rehome Viszla TeddyBear (Mikenmagy BearPaws) died in my arms a year ago today, due to kidney failure. Teddy was a "heart dog" and our five years together were far too short. Today I am going to hug my Dylan and Saoirse, and foster dogs Lulu and Patch and Otto, and let the tears rain down.

Anyone With Experience With Blue Green Algae?
JaneyA replied to J...'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi, I am an aquatic ecologist and teach ecology at university. 5 - 10,000 cells/mL is on the high side, depending on what species of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) are there. Some are much more toxic than others, particularly if the dogs drink it, but the toxins secreted by some types of cyanobacteria can cause severe skin irritation just from contact. Generally, direct contact to skin is to be avoided completely if algal levels exceed 15,000–20,000 cells/mL, again depending on the algal species. The ANZECC guidelines for Fresh and Marine Water Quality for livestock drinking state "An increasing risk to livestock health is likely when cell counts of Microcystis exceed 11 500 cells/mL. There are insufficient data available to derive trigger values for other species of cyanobacteria" (Section 4.3.2.1). So the levels in your lake are not over the limits, but I would keep the dogs out of the water until the cell counts reduce further. Unfortunately, high water temperatures, fertiliser runoff and other pollution, plus stagnant water/low inflows is the recipe for algal blooms -
I've had Vets Own accident/injury + illness cover for my viszlas for more than 8 years. Cost is about $40 per month per dog and there's a multi-dog discount. I have had excellent response to claims that have included everything from small wounds requiring a few sutures to ingesting rat poison to orthopaedic specialist care that totalled several thousand dollars. Recently they've implemented a $50 annual deductible that they didn't have originally, but 80% of costs are reimbursed and the money is in my account within 2-3 weeks of submitting the claim. I highly recommend them, all my dealings with them have felt like they really care about my dogs.
