  1. Agreed! ETA: She's just been donated $405 in the last 19 days! Absolute rip-off. We all have to pay for our own dogs teeth to be cleaned, why can't she!!!!
  2. You can do both, but I think it depends on the condition. I looked into a seizure response dog, and when I first looked into it you had to go through an organisation and it could take years to even start the process, now I believe that you can train an existing dog and get it certified. If my seizures ever start becoming uncontrollable again I will be looking into training either my current dog if he's still young enough or a new dog. This is interesting. I met a woman with a young dog of her own that she claimed was a service dog because it would tell her when she was about to have a seizure or when her blood sugar levels where out of whack. She already had the dog and said she got it qualified as a service dog. It was still quite young and I was skeptical it could do what she claimed. I beleive she has a web site and facebook page where people can donate money towards his upkeep. Thats a seizure ALERT dog. Some dogs seem to have this ability to sense a seizure before the person even feels their "aura". I would be interested to see her link. I did look into this as well and all the information I could find at the time -6 years ago, was that there was no place in Australia training Seizure Alert dogs. Seizure RESPONSE dogs, respond to a seizure, they can be trained to stand guard over you, press emergency call buttons, drag you off the road etc if it's in a bad spot. Can you imagine that happening with the person Kirislin mentioned. A physical impossibility!
  3. And same to you SM! Love the greyhound reindeer in that pic, just gorgeous!!!!!
  4. Beau and Peanut play exactly like that quite a lot. They are both very gentle about it so I watch but don't worry. I think it's cute and more likely to be affection.:)
  5. Agree, it's a bloody hard life for our doggies lol!!
  6. What a wonderful thought and gesture, I'm sure she will just LOVE it! Good on you for thinking of her1
  7. Sorry Stan but  IM Stan's worst nightmare would be being chased by insects in a thunderstorm and treading in a poo he's "speshal" :) SM, I almost wet my pants when I read your reply!!!!
  8. I've got two iggies and one Chi X MinPin. The iggies are not bothered by storms at all. The Chi X doesn't seem to be as worried about the sound of thunder and wind but seems to hate hearing rain on the roof, even if the rain isn't heavy. Weird! She just quietly walks away with her tail down and gets on either my bed or the lounge. She doesn't shake or drool or whimper or show any other signs of being afraid though.
  9. Thanks for the laugh!! I really needed it!
  10. Thanks for the giggle! It's pretty much the same in this house too!
  11. I always thought Fritz [noun] was a German given name. :) Or, [verb] means 'on the blink' / inoperable / broken Or as T says, 'Fritz the Cat' is another well known character.
  12. Fridge and Esky eh.. Got a special kind of ring Yes Fridge sounds like Didge, Fridge/Esky, big boy...I did put some thought into it  Yes..;Fridge and Esky..Love it stans mum. 14.  I'm sorry for laughing but my MinPin x Chi is 5yo and approx. 5kgs and does the same thing. She eventually stops dragging me along when she is either wearing out or the excitement of going 'walkies' has waned. I haven't used the BlackDog harness but I hope you find what you're seeking. Good luck with your boy!
  15. perhaps something like this?? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/WOW-Dog-Pet-Christmas-Jumper-for-Him-Christimas-Costume-Dress-Jumper-All-Sizes-/190979771714?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&var=&hash=item2c77480d42
  16. I was thinking the same thing RuralPug, time, patience, consistency and persistence will more than likely be the key. Unfortunately it can sometimes take months/years for a dog to "come round" as they say. And, sometimes sitting back and waiting for the dog to decide to make the first move can work. Perhaps you could get your partner to spend a certain amount of time each day/evening sitting on a cushion on the floor, at the dogs level, having some treats in his pocket and playing the waiting game. If she comes up to him, quietly praise her and give her a treat, but also try to avoid a lot of eye contact until she feels more comfortable. This has worked for me in the past but may not work for your girl as each dog/situation is different. I'll happily stand corrected if someone more knowledgeable/experienced has other ideas. Good luck with your girl. We'd love to see a photo if you can upload one.
