Shouldn't be surprised as she's always been this way. I can remember her wish list for dog jammies, dog collars, etc to be bought for her by the public, and I can't believe people did. She is a taker, that's for sure!! -

Buffy is doing really well. She has learnt what 'down' means and what 'up' means in relation to getting up and down the stairs. She is still having a little difficulty getting up because of her cone, but she is getting what I mean when I tap either the step above or below her and say the appropriate word. She's also learning what 'go potty' or 'do wizzy' means and she is beginning to toilet when [or soon after] asked. She is getting a lot faster, too, when moving around the yard so I think her confidence is growing day by day. She does follow me around most of the time and her bumping into my legs gets a bit frustrating by the end of the day but her cone should be gone in a week so things should get easier for both of us then. She still doesn't like being crated at night and kicks up a fuss but I feel it is still necessary at this stage. Early this morning was the first time I heard her bark, attention seeking from her crate no doubt, but ignoring her when whingeing, howling or barking from the crate will hopefully make her lose interest in this bad behaviour. So, all in all, things are going better than I expected. She is a really fast learner so I hope that she will find her perfect forever home when she is fully healed as she is such a sweet little girl.

The Problem With Fake Service Dogs

For all sorts of things as you say, not just medical/disability. She's now in subsidised [govt?] accommodation, can afford to pay for heaps of tattoos [unless that's subsidised by donations from the public too], has overseas and interstate holidays but then needs to cry poor and ask for donations to pay for her 'medical alert' dog to have new jumpers and pyjamas, and now a full dental done. It sucks if you ask me, I wonder if I could get away with doing that too. Perhaps I should go and see her doctor and see if I can get a certificate for one of my dogs! -
Meet my newest foster dog, Buffy. Poor little girl was seen wandering the streets and was picked up by a passer-by and taken to the pound after almost being hit three times by a car. She is blind, poor little girl and has now had both eyes removed. This is a quote from her rescuer: "Buffy visited the vet today and sadly the news is not good. Buffy has Glaucoma, an increased pressure within the eye which, if left untreated, usually causes irreversible blindness in addition to stretching and enlargement of the eye. Her ...intraocular pressure was tested and was in excess of 60mm of mercury, the normal reading being around 15mm of mercury. This means that not only is her blindness irreversible, but she would also be in a great deal of pain. It was decided it would be in her best interests to remove both eyes and this will be done tomorrow along with removal of a small chain of mammary tumours. We hope that, by doing this, she will have a much better quality of life." She was also desexed at the same time. So she has stitches in both eyes, where her mammary tumour was and where she was spayed. I was first told that her hearing was not too good but since she's been here with me for the last couple of days, that has proven to be inaccurate, thank goodness. She is able to follow my footsteps around the house and around the yard, and is immediately aware if I change direction. She is wearing the 'cone of shame' to prevent her bumping her eyes on things she runs into and also so she doesn't scratch her stitches out. It is obvious that this morning the wound areas must be healing as they seem to be getting itchy as she wants to scratch more than before. This is my first foster that has had this type of disability. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone has got any tips or tricks to offer regarding how best to help and care for her.
