  1. Yeah it is the only names they have known Dear old pair
  2. I think it is sad they they are old and obvioulsy so and they were surrendered to the pound and split up? Or a Sydney based person/resuce only took one of the aged pair? Poor old darlings I am glad they are back together for the end part of their lives
  3. Hi Bartok, We are doing OK. Every now and then we break into tears just thinking about some of his little quirks that he had. How are you and your family doing? We do the same thing
  4. I understand making decisions on newborn pups that are deformed etc etc but I dont understand culling pups becuase they dont have a "ridge" or something trivial like that. I dont think rescue would see pups like that as a burden. They are just pups that need good loving family homes.

thank you for letting me know about them off lead our furkids Ashes came home today. So they are back with us
  6. [Very true Koalathebear I distinctly remember reading on this forum a thread a few years ago about a Rodesian Ridgeback breeder who culls puppies born without a ridge...clearly not a deformity issue, however she stated there were great difficulties in homeing a non ridge ridgeback (I would imagine most people who want a Rigeback also want the ridge?!) This was her difficult decision as a breeder and one she had to deal with. As breeders we all have to make decisions regarding the future of litters we breed, pre and post birth. I ceratinly wouldn't make a judgement on another breeders choices if I haven't walked in her shoes. Maybe I am naive or a bleeding heart, but you cull a puppy because it doesnt have a ridge? If the pups are in good health and will make fantastic pets, why wouldnt you think of asking a rescue group to take them or do their vet work and still rehome them?
  7. How are you doing deek?
  8. Thanks Kelly and beautiful Sasha I am doing ok My husband is the one really grieving He is a quite man and spends alot of time at home alone with the dogs, so he is struggling, but today he smiled when he saw the Ashes. I think he is glad our boy is home

I thought all of you nice Greyhound ppl could answer some questions for me This past week have seen 2 of our dogs pass 1 x shepherd and 1 x kelpie x Rottie We still have a 10yr old Lab and 7yr old Rottie at home I am not ready for anymore dogs, but my husband is going to pursue getting a new one sooner rather then later We have always talked about giving a greyhound a home. I have cared for them when I worked in a boarding kennel/shelter but we really dont know alot about the breed My husband has been reading and not sure where he has been reading but if a Greyhound was off lead it would run away? If that sound stupid I am sorry.

  15. We both cried this morning. Our Lab is lost without our Shep We started watching a video we took a few weeks ago of Sylvester singing. My Lab Rocky came running and was all Over the ipad. He started barking and bouncing with excitement So that broke our hearts
  16. I am doing ok but not my husband He doesnt even want to take the other Furkids to the park for their run. They are Quiet dogs and my Shep was full of life And energy. So it is very sombre at the park My house is quieter and my protector is gone
  17. I'm sure max met Sylvester going over the bridge. Don't worry, my boy was a protector he will look after Max
  18. At the park on Wednesday He loved going there everyday That was our last trip there with him and his last night with us
  19. This is the first time we have been through it. And it has only been this passed week. Their Ashes are coming home to us. We chose to have a plaque with a pic put on them. My husband wouldnt cope with scattering Ashes. I would love to do it and maybe put a stone with plaque in the garden, but my husband isnt coping so well. So I let him to decide what we do with them. I heard about Pet Memories a few years ago and met the owner once and asked him about their work. I had spoken to a few people about them and they also said the care they give the animals is wonderful. They treat them as a family member with respect and dignity and each animal is individually cremated. They are owned by a Christian family, but will be happy to incorporate all different religious beliefs etc when your dogs pass and you want something special done.
  20. I have had 2 dogs pass away in quick succession and have used these people to care for their remains I have found them to be warm and caring and just really nice people to deal with http://www.petmemories.com.au/
  21. I have Dr Stewart at Mt Druiitt Vet. He doesnt have lots of modern equipment but he and his staff and the other vets on Duty are pretty accomodating They even brushed my boy yesterday after he had passed. He was malting and fur everywhere. So they made him look nice before he had to leave They put his ball between his front paws etc. The head vet nurse Louise is very compassionate and caring and she will talk to the animals when they have passed and give them a pat also.
  22. This morning we said goodbye to our 9yr old Shepherd 2 days ago he was running around normal, but he got sick on Tuesday night and we rushed him to after hours vets He had fluid around his heart and further tests showed cancer in his liver and spleen. They drained the fluid from his heart to help him and we took him home yesterday. This morning he was ready to be free So he went for his last car trip and he loved the car. He had his head on his favourite ball and he had the sun shining on him and fresh air. The vet climbed in the back of the car and set him free. We love you beautiful boy. We will miss your silliness
  23. This is super cow Her name is Tori and she is a PIA most of the time but I love her and she adores me I got her at 10wks old from the pound I was told she would only live a few weeks due to her heart deformity. She also has really poor vision and a few other problems. So we chose to take her home and let her live in a family romping with other dogs and when it was time for her to go then we would help her She was with us a few months and she was just a saggy bag of nothing oneday So we rush her to the vet and we prepare ourselves for goodbye. Well, she is now 3yrs old She fetches a ball like there is no tomorrow Loves the water and runs like she is in the Olympic 100m She goes to the oval for a run Daily and sleeps inside along with my other 3 If you know her deformities she should have died at birth, but she didnt We know oneday it will be hard for her to breath and get up and when that day comes we will do right by her, but for the moment. I am glad we took her home. I am glad we gave her a chance. Regardless of how much she does my head in at times
