  1. I've heard along the grapevine (so who knows if truth or not) that people intend wearing some kind of t-shirt to the meeting? Not sure if is a dig at the mayor shirt etc I do know 2 of the ppl on the Animal companion Board for Blacktown, and they are worried that any bad behaviour from the floor could be enough to have the Mayor dismiss the committee. So whoever attends need to be adult and professional about it.
  2. are you a transport company operator or do it privately within rescue? I would be pissed as hell if I had just purchased a puppy from a breeder that was on transport next to a dog that had only had parvac injection and not quarantined. If it is private transport that is all up to the groups, but cross contaminating from different pounds is right thing to do either IMO There are enough facilities in Sydney that offer quarantine periods for pound dogs. I hate boarding kennels, but for a quarantine stay before transport I see it as almost essential
  3. I think it is called treading on toes or open up a can of worms I would hate to have purchased a puppy from an ethical registered breeder or a dog for that matter and have it on the same transport or in a crate on a plane next to a dog that could potentially infect it.
  4. I would think you generally do the same thing as most in rescues with their foster carers. That is how my yard works also, but that is your yard and you understand the pro's and con's etc of being a foster carer. Rescue groups need to be able to contain any outbreaks of any virus. No matter how minor to their group and their carers.
  5. When I started with rescue I new the risks of having pound dogs/pup in my yard, even with my dogs fully vaccinated and healthy. I have had parvo, I have had coccidia and kennel cough etc. For most people their yard is the quarantine station and if you have been informed correctly then you will know what diseases may be getting carried into your property. Some people are lucky enough to have separate area's but others aren't, but that is a decision and risk you make for ur home and ur dogs etc. But for me. to take a dog straight from a pound and put it on a plane or a transport truck is inappropriate. They could fur carry parvo virus or have Kennel cough incubating etc. I understand people adopt from the pound and probably go straight to parks etc and spread bugs It's no different to them adopting from a rescue. they may say they wont take a pup to a park that hasnt had all needles, but the majority probably do. Our job is to educate and if we do that through following some strict procedures and the public become aware of that. I think it could only earn rescue and groups respect for being thorough in their approach. I guess I just get frustrated with so many groups popping up all over the place and request for transport ASAP from this pound to that state to this place. I just cringe at times. I just remember having it drummed into me the importance of Quarantine etc
  6. This isn't at anyone in particular it is just something I have noticed across the board over the past months. I was introduced to rescue many years ago and Quarantine was always something we did. I didnt even put dogs up for adoption until after their quarantine period (i worked on a 2week time frame) I see alot of dogs being moved direct from pounds/shelters and straight onto transport trucks or flights Have i missed something that all of a sudden the pounds/shelters are clear of disease and it is ok to do this?
  7. Half the rescue groups out there at the moment have nothing. Not an ABN, 16d or CFN nothing at all So I am concerned for rescue across the board. For me all of them should be under scrutiny
  8. My Labrador and Shepherd have tails as does my Mastiff x pup. so why shouldn't my Rottweiler?
  9. how are they scamming? the money is used in some way to save dogs, regardless if we agree with their approach to it.
  10. I have also questioned why they would fundraise for a dog that was in Blacktown pound and in the care of the pound but were taking donations for the dog for the rescue group it might go to for medical care This dog as far as I know had a loving home and was going home but due to injuries needed medical help My concern was them accepting money for a dog that may never be in their or any other rescues hands I am fully away that money could be used on other dogs and if that is stated on a page or website I have no problem if they exceed their donations request to cover a bill, but to take money for a dog that you may not get that doesnt sit well with me. Again though, if someone is operating within the laws then how do you stop it.
  11. I know that and I know you do right by the dogs, but I was just saying that we can't crucify them for fostering the dog, it is what happens after the incident that's the issue. Like advertising it and not disclosing it's history. But if the rescue group had done a behavioural assessment prior to sending this dog into foster care, possibly the DA might have been picked up? Personally when I temp test at HP I have a dog in the run next to it and when walk it past the other dog cages (and sometimes cats) and if the dog is highly reactive I would be weary about sending it straight into a foster home (especially an inexperienced one). I understand that, but most ppl accessing aren't qualified they are normal everyday people that may be experienced in the rescue world or have been around dogs a long time, but still at the end of the day most are just people thinking they know what they are doing and for the most part it is generally ok Im not saying what they do is right, I'm just saying I think there are alot of holes within rescue with lots of groups and even how they work with pounds. This group is certainly one that needs to start listening to the experience of others and learning from them. I believe they are passionate but that is about all

  13. They can have one without the other. They can have the ability to,fundraise as a charity and the donations are not tax deductible. (nt a deductible gift recipient)... There are plenty of charities around who can fund raise but it's not a tax deduction... However they must make this very clear in their information to the public.. However it does sound like these are dodgy... You can make a complaint to the ATO, will sort them out quick smart.. The ATO love a good audit... There of plenty of "rescue" groups that operate without ABN'S, 16d's and CFN's So shouldnt all of them be under scrutiny as well as to where monies go? Not saying any of them do anything wrong. They could be bloody brilliant at rescue there is groups that have all of the above and I think are "cowboy's" but sadly if they are breaking no laws what can you do? Report to the DLG???????
  14. Jill, I hear what your saying and agree with most of it, but I along with you would have seen many a dog leave a pound that has issues and end up with a rescue group only to be rehomed while it still has issues. So while I dont agree with alot of PR's work they are not the only people who have done this. So while they get outed and shamed others fly under the radar and have done for a long time. If a dog shows no signs or issues in the pound how can they not release it? and some dogs in the pound don't seem that great but out of that environment have turned out to be the most amazing dog friendly family orientated dogs.
  15. They have a charity status, so like any other rescue group that has a charity status then they are legally allowed to take donations in any way shape or form They are not obligated to put it directly to a vet bill etc I am not sticking up for them but if they have gone through the legal channels of obtaining the correct paperwork to operate then you really cant say what they are doing with the money is a scam Many a rescue group take in monetary donations and I can pretty much guarantee that they will disperse it as they feel best works for their group and their bills as long as all the money can be accounted for then they aren't doing anything wrong If anyone feels they aren't using money as it was intended then report them to the ATO
  16. If it is who I am thinking of yes they do hold a clause 16d and they do have a charity status Regardless of that u dont need a 16d as a rescue group to get dogs from pounds
  17. This wouldn't be an isolated incident and I have seen groups re-home dogs that have issues, but if you open your mouth against a "reputable" or "high profile" group you are treated like a leper. So regardless of who this group is, there are others just as guilty
  18. I don't think everyone would withhold the information of a dogs past. I guess it depends on their ethics
  19. If some of the statistics of what has been posted up here already by those in the breed are true, then it is good Mia is not deaf and good on you for rescuing her. But..... Why breed from something that is recorded and known to produce issues? That is a little irresponsible?? Why breed from something that increases the likelihood of producing issues? Shouldn't you be breeding to LESSEN the likelihood? Boxers are not my breed, however deafness does occur in border collies and is also related to the white gene and white factoring. Why breed from two dogs knowingly carrying excess white to produce the potential of blind/deaf puppies? Why put out there the burden on someone else to look after a problem that could have been avoided in the outset? then lets ban all the dogs that could have white deaf puppies. I dont think the people who have adopted these "problem" dogs see them as a problem at all
  20. It may not have done anthing It might have just wanted company or the sound of your tv etc lured it in Maybe try and catch the dog and see where it belongs
  21. This is Mia - she is 11mths old and I recently saved and rehomed her. Apparently both parents were white boxers but there was also a male American bulldog there. Obviously BYB Her adoption fee for her new family was $150 - It covered a vaccination and desexing through a vet that helps with rescue dogs. We had her checked for deafness but her new family had already said that deafness wasnt an issue She is happy and loving and outgoing. She will need to stay out of the sun especially in summer but she deserves to have a good life for as long as she is on the earth. We dont know the lifespan of any animal or person. Why prematurely kill something because it "might" get something?
  22. Yes, that's why topics like this are important to discuss, even though they can get emotive. Nobody wants to put down puppies they have bred. Looking from another point of view, why would a person choose to buy a pet of higher health risk than its littermates? You would hope that puppy buyers want their dogs to have as long and comfortable lives as possible and would want to buy from breeders that felt that supplying only healthy, quality pups to puppy buyers was an important part of their breeding ethic. i thought I read earlier that registered breeders werent allowed to sell theit white pups. So give them to a rescue organisation. There is always deaf dogs going through the rescue world and all manage to find homes. If they are desexed, chipped, vaccinated and well versed in deaf dog care then i see that as a good thing.
  23. I have no answers for that We have to put our dogs outside when the family come as they have a fit the kids freak the parents freak more and the dogs have to go outside and wonder why they arent allowed in to see the visitors. Frustrates me no end If the kids are scared of dogs they are gonna freak out anyway I would imagine which could stress the dogs out Is there any way for the time they are there to section of parts of the house that the dogs have access to that the human kids dont have access to?
