  1. also, will kennels and clubs accept a titre test?
  2. We use it as a standby food too, for occations such as having forgotten to take barf stuff out of the freezer or traveling. It does smell good!
  3. I'll be there, you'l know me by the basenji! Looking forward to it
  4. I taught this one using food only, sorta holding the food for him to follow with his nose until he rolled over on his back and then back into drop position. Now he will do it when i say roll or use the hand signal, but sometimes he does a "faster-than-lightning" one where he just shakes his head and slaps his paw to the ground, as if to say, "see that? I did it, faster than lightning" :D
  5. my basenji will carry it oh-so-carefully aound for a bit, then take it to his eating spot. He then proceeds to gnaw a tiny little hole in the shell - about the size of a five cent piece - and lick the whole egg out through that hole. Doesn't spill a drop, I'd let him eat it inside on the carpet if he wanted to. When done, he carries the empty shell over to his bed and chomps it into tiny little pieces. Maybe there is just something about eggs that makes dogs do weird things?
  6. there was a post a while ago about how to measure your dogs weight.. can't find it now but it had three 'tests' I think? One was to feel the ribs - you should be able to feel them when running your hand over the side (without digging for them), but not see them. Then there was something about some other bone that should be felt but not seen, and something else.. a pinch test I think? For my dog, a basenji which has a somewhat similar build to a weim (although smaller) my breeder tells me that the part between where his ribs end and his hips start, when seen from the side, should look 'a little hollow' and that when he sits, his chest should look 'defined'. Also, the flesh on the bottom of his chest should 'not be flabby or jiggle'. Okay, this is all terribly vague, so I will stop being unhelpful now
  7. Would love to try this with Smitty, but have other things on that day. I know he'd be good at it, at least until he figured it out.
  8. I'm teaching mine "where's the ball" and "where's the keys" cause I am always running around looking for them before going on walkies. Doing this by putting a bit of treat with the ball and told him "where's ball?" slowly increasing how hard it is for him to find it. Then no treat, but when he finds the ball he gets one from my hand. Have no idea if this is the best method though, but he got the idea in about five tries (of course now he's doing the 'I have no idea what you are trying to get me do, better use more treats huh mum?')
  9. Mine did this a few times, always after beeing fed a lot of dry food and/or very fatty foods. I shifted him off large quantities of dry food (he still gets half a handfull most mealtimes) and now trim most visible fat off the meat&bones. I also give him two sardines at a time, not the whole can. These changes fixed his problem, but if concerned you should probably talk to the vet
  10. oooh.. no tomato? Just gave mine one the other day - did not know about this. What are the problems with them? Have not noticed anything unususal, would I have noticed by now? *concerned*
