So since joining DOL I have become even more aware how wrong it is to be a BYB and I try with all my effort to discourage people from doing it...I work for my local Shire and deal with the administration side of the pound....That being said I am currently trying to rehome a Maltese x that was surrended.. I posted on Facebook to see if anyone was interested and came across a girl I know that wants to breed her puppy... I told her she is selfish and contributing to animal cruelty.. and this is the reply that I got How am i contributing to animal Cruelty? She is a gorgeous puppy and she will make wonderful puppies, if no one would want them we would keep them because no way i would let them get put down, i will only let them to home that i know are safe and the owners would care for them like i do to gracie. AAARRRGGGGHHHH.. When will the message get through to people Rant over

What Breed To Recommend To Young Family?
Gilypoo replied to ZAUBISTAR's topic in General Dog Discussion
What about a great dane... While people intially bork at the size of them, they tick every box your family friends need.. They are goof balls.. So laid back and happy just being in a family. My Girl spends all day outside while we are at work then sleeps inside at night. Short coat, so only abit of shedding. Very kid oriented. If trained correctly they learn that kids are fragile and to be gentle. Are happy to laz on the couch or go for a walk (obviously with a large breed, exercise must be kept to a minimun while growing) Fantastic dog all around.. The Kids will be the coolest in the street cause of the dogs size.. And oh so cute when puppies -
I'm glad you got it wrong the first time, coz that is the cutest photo ever! Thanks.. I was trying to take a photo of her ears back and she yawned at the exact right time... It is my Fav photo of her

Rspca Shelters In Uk To Turn Away Unwanted Pets And Strays
Gilypoo replied to gillbear's topic in In The News
Puggles and Souff are in total agreement with these statements. HOWEVER ...... We all have ability. Ability is one of the greatest strengths. It is HOW we use our ability, and our knowledge, that is important. And particularly, how we use any power given to us .... that is critically important. There are a zillion animal lovers in this country but the organisation that is supposed to help prevent cruelty, seems to have got the backs up on an awful lot of these people, most of whom have done absolutely nothing wrong and would lay down their lives to help animals. And many of these people were once the allies and supporters of the RSPCA. Power is a very useful thing to have, but if you wield that power the wrong way .... then maybe, just maybe, that is not the best use of power? Some teachers of teenagers in years gone by wielded their power in a similar way. Result? Aggro anti-social kids who hated school, hated any figure of authority, always in trouble, and thought the world owed them. The 27%ers. Other teachers who worked alongside these kids, gave the kids incentives to feel better about themselves as well as their work, THEY were the teachers who could bring out the best in the formerly "difficult" teenagers. They were not soft, they used the same syllabus, but they encouraged the kids to do better and to become good citizens. They got good results that lasted. Not a quick fix. Working WITH the animal lovers, instead of working agin them and making rules "to catch them" could lead to a better result all round. And that free up precious resources so that the culprits of real animal cruelty can be dealt with, to focus on improved rehoming programs, and on more widespread desexing progams. jmho Souff WOW a comment I actually agree with... -
Sounds good in theory but I dont think that they are dane friendly... hehe, Bells legs are over 60 cm in length and there is no way that they will bend like that. She has a hard enough time walking without falling over cause she is so awkward Cant wait to see photos of your man in them... He will look so spunky

I know I will get flamed for this, but when a dog hurts a human, they are instantly put down, yet these mongrel humans get a slap on the wrist max, I want people who do these things to animals jailed, not a $1,000 fine. If you get flamed for that then Ill get banned from Dol... I want them shot ... They dont deserve to walk amongst us... They say that animal abuse is normally 1 step before human abuse..

.What worrys you about GSD's???? Have you had a previous bad experience with one? Im not beening nasty. Its just one thing that really gets my goat up.. I have a 13 month GSD (small size wise by breed standards) and I really get frustrated with people assuming she is nasty just because she is a GSD.... Just wanting to understand what makes people sacred.. I also have a 13 month Great Dane and get frustrated when people assume that it is my dog that has the bad manners. It would be lovely to be able to pick my girl up and walk away when a small breed dog gives her a hard time but considering she weighs more then me it is a little tricky . I believe a thread was started about small and large breeds acting the same not to long ago.. I get that the larger breeds can do damage purely because of the size but smaller breed owners have to realise its not always a big breeds fault..Some of the smaller dogs suffer from "small man syndrome" and just dont give up.. A perfect example was my girl was playing at the beach with some other dogs (who she new) and a small x breed came up and kept sniffy/ licking my girls privates.. I obviously tried to pull my girl away but the little dog kept going and going, even when we were walking away.. Eventually Bella had enough and growled and showed teeth (yes a scary thing in its self when coming from a 67kilo dog) the other owner finnaly realised that my dog had had enough and said my dog had temper issues and I should control it better.. Im not condoning everything big dogs do... I think all dogs should have manners and owners should be able to see if there dogs is doing something wrong instead of blaming the other sized dog... Sorry Rant over I can bet its nothing to do with the breed, its peoples perceptions and what they are taught/used too. An example is I worked two Narcotic Detection dogs, both Labradors both Passive Alert Dogs one was Black one was gold, nobody fussed about the BIG male gold one but the wiry small female black one had people a bit scared! People and their perceptions! lol I myself favour large dogs ( any breed) but take a dislike to small fluffies ( any breed acutrally any small dog!) as they always seem to want to bark, snarl and carry on whats worse is the owners think its funny! While small dogs look cute I am DEFINATLEY a big dog lover aswell... I love being able to give my Great Dane cudddles without having to bend over... Give her half the chance and she will be a lap dog aswell

SICK SICK BASTARDS.... How can any human being do this to an animal... It brought a tear to my eye... Im lost for words ;)
-
I know know one HERE is saying that they are nasty, it my experience out in public... I was just asking why they keep them away. Is it owners a little timid or for the dogs sake... They quote was from a person that had a medium dog so i guess it could hold its own compared to a smaller dog... I just want to understand better. ;)
