Yeah I was wondering about these things..... What do I have to do with them? I tried the throw one (when you throw stuff at them, i think it was called Bomb proof Stay????) with Bella but she wasnt at all interested. Thinking about it she was probably really good at it cause she just went to sleep and didnt pay attention at all.. hehehe. :D Ill keep my eye out for it.. I just called my Local dog club and they meet on sundays and Wed so I am dragging OH down there for a look on Sun...

I have started to look into training but I havnet found any in my area that im completley satisfied with or suit my schedule. Ive started doing clicker training at home which she absolutley loves. I can keep her occupied for huge time frames. I have also started using handsignals for something interesting and a bit different to see how she goes with it.

I have a 13month GSD that loves to chase anything that moves.. I recently posted about her esacping every day... My question is should I be worried about her constant need to chase things now? Is it likely to develope into a more sinister Obsession later in life? I have a feeling that she is bored although she goes for an walk every day for approx 45min- 1hour, she has a 13month old Great Dane puppy to play with. She has more toys then you can imagine (her fav being a red tennis ball) It is rarley seen out of her mouth, she normally sleeps with it . My OH plays with her for about an hour non stop when he gets home from work, yet she will look for things that are moving so she can catch them in her mouth. It is now at the point that she will stare at a leaf on the ground for approx 5 min in the hope that it is going to move.. Any suggestions on what i can do, as i would hate to have an over stressed obsessive dog on my hands!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks :D p.s here is my baby girl with the above mentioned red tennis ball

Hi Guys, I have previously posted about an escape artist GSD, my situation has recently become worse. The GSD has lead my Great Dane astray and now both dogs are getting out as soon as we leave for the day. We had previously tried Containment Collars but they arnt making any difference.. Most people suggested some type of run which i think is now our only option. so my question is: How big is a suitable size dog run for a 70kilo Great Dane pup (13months old ) and a 30kilo GSD pup (13months old).? I hate locking my girls up but im soo worried about them getting taken or worse hurt by a passing vehicle... Any help on size, layout, materials would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Any thing dane size... Expecially bedding. Other then a single matress my girl doesnt fit on any of the "XXL" Beds.. Jumbo my arse (sorry)

From the 1st photo, she looks a little thin. its a bit far away to judge correctly thou. People always tell me from my danes numbers that she is too heavy, when in real life she looks very healthy. You know your dog better then anyone. So trust your instinct. What has your vet said?? They will give you an honest answer. Have you spoken to a registered breeder?

I got my Dane puppy (12kg at 8 weeks) from Taree NSW to perth which was only 350.00 that was with a comfort stop aswell.. I used dogtainers. They were fantastic. My puppy showed little to no stress after the 12 hour ordeal (inlcuding 5hr stop over in sydney) I think i was more stressed then she was

I have a Great Dane, obviousley i am bias and would reccomend one if you want the "LARGEST" (height) breed. They are so gentle in nature but are definatley people dogs. Dont get one if your planning on locking it outside. You will need to replace your door on a regular basis if you do..

Dogs Barking At Each Other When We're Not Home
Gilypoo replied to benita's topic in General Dog Discussion
I work for a local government and it is a very long process before they can take you dogs away.. Try not to give them any reason to pick on you, eg make sure that regos are up to date, fenced property etc, basically all the responsible pet things. If you PM me i can forward a copy of the Dog Laws for WA if you want. What state are you in? Have the neighbours been issued with a bark diary? Basically what that is is 2 people form the same household and 1 other resident from surrounding area must complete a diary on when the dogs bark, they then submit them to the shire/city for comparision. The ranger will then contact you, you get given a certrain amount of time to recitfy the problem, neighbours are then given another diary for completion. If dogs are still barking then you can get fined. I t has to go through the courts before they can remove the dogs from the premises. The only way they can do that is if they ATTACK some one and being they are 4 months old i doubt anyone will get anything other then puppy breath and drool on them. If you want the Local Laws, let me know. Im assuming most states would be the same on this issue. -
pretend to fall ill your self then do a mercy dash home and to the vet...... They cant refuse to let you go if "YOUR" sick Good Luck, Please keep us updated

My friend is a showerr (if thats the right word.. She shows poodles) and a breeder, i have picked up in passing that they are a retriever dog. There chest is left full to protect their heart and lungs, the pom poms on the bum are for the kidney and the feet to protect the feet...hehe, they have the pom pom on their tail, because 9/10 the were retriever for water birds, so there owner would tie a ribbon/ dye the color so that they were noticable to other hunters while retriving... My friend has 3 dogs and they are the most beautiful dogs that i have met (other then my two of course). They are such goof bags. At many shows that i have been to with her, she contantly get the "poor dog" coment directed at her.. All I have to say is, does the average jo blo spend that much time one on one with their dog..?At home they are treated just like any other dog and run around getting into things. My Aunty and Uncle also have a poodle in the basic cut ( short coat with a little pom pom tail and long ears). She is still as much of a goof bag as the show ones. I would definatley reccomend this breed to any one as they are beautiful dogs..

The only time that we have noticed her out is around 6.45 in the morning.. We have had reports from neighbours that she has been out thru the day and they have put her back in the yard for us... Im in WA and those regulations are pretty stock standard here, we are in a "bush" area and they want to keep the area in a certain theme. I have a 5 acre 'bush' block in a 'resource zone' . . . also a kennel area. I had a lot of escape problems until I put two strands of electric fence (no collars . . . the stuff they sell for horses and cattle). I can't say the dogs were pleased by the electric fence . . . but they respect it. Have had no problems since it went up. It can be made inconspicuous and I don't think your local authorities will give you grief. If she's jumping (mine were digging under), electric fence won't stop her . . . but you may be able to teach her it isn't safe to get near enough to the fence to jump . . . eg, put up three strands a metre inside your boundary fence. Good suggestion about the electric fence but make sure it is always turned on. I know of several BCs that listen for the hum of electric fences to see if they are turned on before deciding if they will risk getting through. I imagine a GSD would be smart enough to work this out as well. Yes we have that problem, she would listen to the beep and then either run for freedom if the gate was open or bolt in the other direction.. Another problem we have is because she is a long hair, her coat is so full and thick, we have to constantly shave her neck for the prongs to sit close enough to her skin... We have uped the strength but she still pushes it...i was outside (past the zap line) this morning getting then bins, i turned around and saw her bolt full speed through the opening to get to me .. She know if she runs fast enough she wont get zapped for long.. I might have to try the dog strength cattle fence to stop the jumping. I feel like the biggest witch, when she gets zapped... After walks, when i put the zap collar on her she trys to hide.. So she has associated the two objects together. Thanks for all your advise. I really appreciate it.

I might try that, it wil be a very tight squeeze however, my Dane is 65kg and GSD 28kg.. We only have a small Laundry and bathroom.... It will be nice and cosy.. hehe

As the have always been outside dogs they havnt really been toilet trained properly.. They obviosly go out when they need to but I dont know if they could hold it all night... I would hate to wake up and find Great Dane and GSD poos all thru my living room hehe I might have to toughen up and just do it if it will keep her safe.

She has a 11 month old Great Dane sister, so she has a constant companion. That is normally the only way that we know she is out because then Dane barks non stop cause she wants to get out aswell (she is a little bit too big to jump)

Hi Everyone, I am at a witts end.... I have an 11 month old GSD, she has decided to make it her mission to escape every morning. We have an acre block and Council regulations state that we are only aloud to have 900mm high ring lock fencing (which we do).. I know I will get some flack about it but we have also installed a dog confinment fence (electric collar) aswell... She still manages to get out. I have done a perimeter check and there are no holes or damaged fencing so I am assuming she is jumping. I would obviously perfer not to tir her up all day, but its looking like I might have to if I cant find any solutions. Any suggestions on what I can do, as I would hate to lose her, or worse have her injured by a passing car.. PLEASE HELP..

12 Yr Old Golden Retreiver Coughing Up Blood
Gilypoo replied to indigirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
That is so aweful. I just read this thread from start to finish. I got my hopes up a little when his temp dropped... You did an amazing job Indigirl... At least he is pain free now and can run around like a puppy again... Thinking of you and his owner.. -
I say chocolate brown.. I have a Great Dane and no way would i crop her ears, It adds to the whole dopey face.. I dont see the point of croppin any dogs ears. If they were ment to stand up they would be born that way (unless of course it was for a medical reason) ... Just my opinion thou, hope i dont offend anyone
-
glad it all turned out ok.. In case the dog comes back i would double check what the pound rules are.. Unfortunatly the shire i live in only keep dogs in the pound for 72 hours before the are put to sleep It sounds like a reoccuring problem, however if a different dog comes maybe check that the council has owner details, so yet another dog doesnt go to puppy heaven.... Hope that makes sense.

An absolute disgrace There's no limit to how many kids one can have and the brats over the back fence scream in the backyard on a daily basis, yet I can't complain to council about them? My dogs are quiet and are kept indoors at night causing a nuisance to noone. I'm absolutely livid at their policy. This is why so many people don't bother registering their dogs and willingly break the law. How dare they rule how many "kids" I can have, I choose the furry 4 legged kind over 2 legged skin ones and that should be my prerogative!!! Rant over, but still furious Hi, Pretty Sure this topic has been finished however, i work for a local government and i just asked the person who handles 3 dog permits and he said that each local government has the right too choose their on rules and limits, however he did also say that everyone has the option of going to the State Tribunial Adminstrate and putting in a appeal... Just an option if your still looking at having 3 or more dogs.. Gilypoo
