Hi Dolers, Well my back yard is dead, not just in patches but completely dead. OH and I decided that we would put a garden in and started to dig up the lawn and under the 1st shovel load of grass there was 5 lawn beeltes. It didnt get any better the further we went. They are the bad ones that turn the grass blue b4 it dies.. So my question to you all is are there any safe types of Beetle Killer that I can use. I have a 19 month Great Dane and a 19 month GSD. They can be removed for a day at a time, possibly overnight but that is about it. I should probably add that we have over 500sqm of lawn so something that is cost effective aswell would be great, the name of grass is winter green. Thanks in advance Gily

Puppy "laundering" Or Stolen Puppies?
Gilypoo replied to sunshiine's topic in General Dog Discussion
IMO I think that OP needs to clarify the situation in simple terms before everyone gets all high and mighty about what is right and wrong and what is relevant and not relevant... The situation needs to be broken down so all aspects can be addressed then the wise DOLers can give their opinions.. -
Puppy "laundering" Or Stolen Puppies?
Gilypoo replied to sunshiine's topic in General Dog Discussion
So basically you went to get 2 puppies from a rescue organisation, you paid the deposit, but when you went to collect the puppies the rescue organisation told you that the person who said they found the puppies was actually the owner/ breeder of the puppies in the first place, therefore the organisation gave the puppies back to her. Is that right? Just trying to simplify things -

I work for Local Govenmnet and it is Law to have your dog registered... Trust me it is worth it.. Unfortunatly we have found dogs with no tags/ microchips and have held them for the time that we are required to then PTS only for the owner to call the next day looking for their dog... It is a devasating thing to tell some one we killed your dog yesterday.. I am so cautious/ paranoid with my dogs tags.. The have: Shire Rego Tag CAR Tag, One that says " Please scan me, Im microchipped Name tage with their name, My name, Address and phone number. Some times, I put 2 collars on them with all the tags incase they get out and loose a collar (has happened as we use containment collars)

You seem to be missing the point here.. it's more than a little hypocritical to condem another for lacking compassion when you'd happily see a child harmed (and I find it sort of odd that you justify your previous comment by suggesting you didn't mean rape, you "only" meant that you hoped the child be murdered in a manner that was horrifically violent and very sexual). To be blunt here, I find the comments of some of the lynch mob to be more disgusting and lacking compassion than the child's actions and that is a very sad reflection of some of the posts here. Number 10 Dont try to add weight to your comment by saying that I would want to inflict a "very sexual" act onto a child. I have answered that comment before. Once again, a child is only a child temporarily and, given time, will mature into an adult. Just because it is a child does not justify it committing hideous acts of cruelty; a child, especially of the age of this girl knows only too well what it is doing and is actually enjoying every split second of it. The same as those two young boys that had kidnapped a toddler years ago only to murder him, they are now young adults with a new identity and enjoying their lives. Yes, I do wish they were eradicated from the planet and I have no compassion simply because they happen to be children when they committed the killing. I agree 100% with the highlighted section...
-
So I dont agree with some comments that were made previously about raping and murdering the person involved in this artrosoty, but I can undersatnd where the passion comes from.. To be able to do this to a helpless innocent animal is beyond me.. I agree this person needs to be punished and if people having a "lynch mob" attitude leads to the arrest of the person isnt it worth it? I believe they have found the person responsible.. so I think that is a positive, now lets just hope the feel the full force of the law and dont just get a slap on the wrist.

I havent seen the video and I dont want to.. From what everyone has said it will be too heart wrenching.. I hope they find her, even if she is put into police protection, hopefully it will scare the crap out of her and she will see what she has done wrong.. I have no sympathy for her.. What other issues does this child have, if at this young age she can be so cruel and heartless..

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/technology/7953...r-puppy-thrower A disturbing online video showing a girl throwing puppies into a river has sparked outrage online and made her the target of an infamous group of web vigilantes. In the video, which is too distressing to be published here, the young girl is seen callously hurling several newborn puppies into the water. The clip has attracted attention on several social networking sites since it was published earlier today, leading to the creation of Facebook hate pages and an online campaign to find the girl. Anonymous users of the image forum 4chan, who were recently credited with identifying a British woman who dumped a cat into a rubbish bin, today turned their sights on the puppy-thrower. Messages were posted on the site claiming that the video was filmed in Croatia, along with several links to Facebook and YouTube accounts that purportedly belong to people involved into the video’s production. One YouTube account that was posted on the site was flooded with hundreds of death threats when visited this afternoon. Users of 4chan, in particular the /b/ section of the site, are known for orchestrating massive smear campaigns against individuals. Last week a British woman who was filmed on CCTV throwing a cat into a bin was identified on the website as 45-year-old Mary Bale. The /b/ users then managed to find the name of her employer and her home address and began bombarding her with death threats. Last month a similar campaign targeted 11-year-old American girl Jessi Slaughter, which ended with her being placed under police protection. I am ashamed to be human... How could someone do this... Im not even going to look for the video because I know I will get too upset watching it...

Dog that can be around kids of any age - I totally dislike small breed, between medium size to giant size, rather small hair every where than woolly longish hair Would be kept as a pet, so desexed etc. If you want a X LARGE breed, pop into the Dane thread where you will get LOTS of advise on training, diet exercise and the rest of it.. You get exceptions to all breeds but My dane is SOO gentle around little kids, there are 2 boys that live across the road (6 & 8) and bella is amazing 2 them, she keeps out of their faces and has an amazing rear end awareness.. Obviuosly all done under constant supervision.. Bell met a 3 year old on saturday, and after 1 sniff, got over the excitement and sat down next to him waiting for her cuddle

Great danes are very easy to train... In the Dane thread we have monthly comps where we compete... You just have to be prepared for the slobber when using treats My girl can do all the usual obedience comands plus walk backwards on command, shut cupboard doors, crawl on her tummy,touch/ target objects and lots more Stormies dane Orbit is EXTREMLY smart...and not to mention Dante (sas dane) Dont let there dopey face fool you, they can be smart when they want to be... There is ALOT more to owning a dane then training though.. A very deep pocket breed but lots more to love

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/7950809/p...or-torching-dog Parole refused for torching dog13:28 AEST Wed Aug 25 2010 A US parole board has refused to grant conditional release to a man serving a seven-year prison sentence for setting his pit bull on fire and beating him with a shovel, the board said. The eight-year old dog, named Louis Vuitton, has fully recovered from his 2007 ordeal and was present at the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles hearing as a material witness against his former owner, Juan Daniels, 26. Daniels lit the animal on fire with lighter fluid in the 2007 attack. The next parole hearing for Daniels will come no sooner than July 2012. GREAT NEWS Im soo glad people are being held accountable for doing this type of thing.. I hope it wasnt to stressfull for Louis to see his old owner and to be in a court/ parole room...

Advice Needed For Council Approval For 3 Dogs
Gilypoo replied to GRLC's topic in General Dog Discussion
If all of your neighbours are saying they made no objections then who were the 2 objections from? I'd also put in a Freedom of Information claim to find out who made the objections and what was the exact basis of their case. Definitely appeal the decision. From my expereince, this reason is used with everyone unless you are on acreage.. We have had neighbours parents (who dont live in the same suburb) complain, so it could of been some random person wanting to cause trouble.. -
i think you need to weigh all options.. I personally wouldnt import from overseas on long flights. But in saying that I did get one of my girls from NSW.. I also made sure it was a cool day and had a courtesy stop.. Such a tragedy.. I hope the OP pup is ok

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/7940530/s...uring-us-flight Seven puppies died after flying in the cargo hold of an American Airlines jet. American said it contacted the shipper who put the puppies on a Tuesday morning flight from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Chicago, and is investigating further. Airline spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan said Wednesday the shipper put 14 puppies aboard Flight 851, which was scheduled to leave Tulsa at 6:30 am local time but was delayed an hour by storms in Chicago. American said on its website it won't carry warm-blooded animals if the actual or forecast temperature is above 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29.44 Celsius). As the plane sat on the tarmac in Tulsa, it was already 86 degrees before 7 am, according to the National Weather Service. Fagan said cargo holds carrying animals are routinely kept between 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Baggage handlers taking the puppies to a kennel area at O'Hare Airport grew concerned because they looked lethargic. Employees tried to cool down the dogs, and they were taken to a vet's office, but five died initially and two others died later, Fagan said. Several of the puppies were headed to connecting flights. Fagan declined to identify the shipper or say whether American had taken animals from the same shipper before and, if so, whether there had been problems with any previous flights. "We don't disclose information about our shippers any more than we disclose information about our passengers," she said. In guidelines to customers, American says it reserves the right to refuse to ship aggressive animals or one that "does not appear fit to travel." It also says it won't take dogs or cats that have been sedated. It asks shippers about each animal's breed, size and age. Fagan said dogs and cats must be at least eight weeks old. She said she didn't know the breed or breeds of the dead puppies. Last month, the U.S. Department of Transportation said short-faced dogs such as pugs and bulldogs accounted for about half of the 122 dogs that died during U.S. flights in the last five years. Veterinarians say those dogs are more likely to have breathing problems. The department said the deaths were an extremely small percentage of the total number of pets carried by airlines. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recommends that owners only put a pet on a plane if it's small enough to fit under a seat in the passenger cabin. Poor Pups.. What an awful way to die... ;)

Advice Needed For Council Approval For 3 Dogs
Gilypoo replied to GRLC's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hey, can I ask what Shire you live in?? I work for Local Governement in this particular area... 1st up there should of been an inspection. 2nd all decisions like this needs to go to Council for Council voting. Did you recieve notification that it went to Council? If you didnt then apply for it to go to Council or at the very least put up a stink why you didnt recieve the notification If it goes to council then you can address them and give them a face to face reason on why you want to keep 3. This also gives you an oppurtunity to show that you care and it means something to you.. From my expereince most 3 dog apps fail if the owner isnt present at the Council meeting.. Also you can request copies of the objections via Freedom of Information. It may have the complainints details blacked out but you can see their reasoning and maybe come to a comprimise with the council for reconsideration if the concerns are fixed. Your final option in going to STAT.. I dont believe it costs much, only your time. Also from my expereince STAT seems to be sympathetic if you give your pets medical reason... PM me if you would like more info.. Gily ETA i would stay away from the Councillors for the time being... You may accidently single out a non dog lover and this could hurt your chances in the long run.. Remember the rejection from Council is only their opinion.. It can always go further...
