  1. Pink sounds normal to me although a couple of the others could provide better information. And what a cutie he is :p I spoke with our local vet this morning and they said he is fine and is normal. I have noticed it just looks faster when he has been playing, so he probably is just hot.
  2. Hi DMA, I haven't taken his temp as yet. But his gums are pink... is this a good thing? I will try and get some pics soon
  3. We now have our puppy at home. Last night when he was sleeping on my lap I noticed that his breathing rate was a little fast. Is this normal for a ACD pup at 8 weeks old? He is still playful and full of energy, eats & drinks really well, goes to the toilet with no problems, and doesn't seem to be in pain. It did start to slow down as the night went on... and throughout the night he still had the energy to wake me up every 3 hours
  4. When he arrives I will try and get some photos
  5. We pick up our 8 week old red heeler next week! Does anyone have any tips and suggestions on how to help him settle into his new home?
  6. We will be getting a puppy very shortly. My partner and both work, so I was wondering where should we keep the puppy during the day until we get home? We have secure fencing and plenty of toys but I feel funny about leaving an 8 week old puppy outside on his own when we aren't home. Is it safer to have a secure room for him with food, water, his bed and loads of toys ? This won't be for long as soon my partner will be taking him on the road with him as he is a tradie.
  7. Thanks for the feedback. But I already know and understand the information just shared. But I am still confused about the PRA. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between PRA A, B and C?? Thanks
  8. In the next week or so we are keeping an eye out to get a ACD puppy. We would like to get one from a breeder. I having been checking updates on this website for breeders that have puppies available. I have one question what is PRA? I notice quite a few breeders say that the puppy will be tested and will either be a PRA A or PRA B. Can anyone tell me what they mean? And the difference between the two. I have done a search on the net and all I have really been able to find is that it is a inherited disease which can cause the dog to go blind. But I have no idea which type is good or bad or even if there is a good one. Please help... This has got me confused :S
  9. ACD's judge of character is excellent! We once had someone to come and look at a problem we were having with our watertank, and before we knew the guy was even at our property our ACD had already chased him off the property. He was ok, just very weary when we returned back onto the property
  10. Yes it does help. Thank you
  11. Just personal preference for both of us. I have owed a adult ACD before with my family. We have signed up with ACD rescue, so we get alerts when something comes up both adult and puppy.
  12. I am finding out as much info as possible about the ACD before we get one. Just wondering when the best age is to desex a ACD pup?
  13. Thanks Peta23 for your suggestion. We are planning to buy from a breeder, it sounds to risky to not buy from one. Does anyone know of a non-working dog breeder for ACD in Melbourne? Or does anyone have recommendations for a breeder who is not overly priced? If I may ask, but you are adamant you want a cattledog from a breeder? There are many cattledogs, of various ages, being held by Australian Cattledog Rescue & other rescue groups. Although I'd doubt any would come with papers, the dogs will have had all vet work done, including vacinations, worming, desexing, health check, not to mention microchipping & registration. Their website is here: http://www.australiancattledogrescue.com/. Furthermore getting a dog from a rescue group will be much cheaper at around $300-$350 (depending upon the rescue group in question). Thanks for your suggestion. We are going to be looking for a pup preferably pure bred. I will jump on the ACD rescue website and have a look. I will keep checking the website for updates, but buying from a breeder will still be on my list, but i will definitely consider both. Thanks

  15. We have been enquiring to breeders with pricing etc. We have been told for a ACD puppy its $700 which includes: Vaccinations Microchipped Vet checked Regular worming Baer tested (hearing) reg with Dogs Vic 6 weeks free puppy insurance Is this a good price? I have seen some advertised alot cheaper but they don't include everything above and probably aren't through a certified breeder the main thing we want to focus on is the Baer Test as we have heard deafness is known in ACD? Any Opinions or advice?
  16. Do they cope alright as a pet in a backyard? Obviously with daily exersize and plenty of mental stimulation.
