In my experience some people are unaware of how to care for animals - and children - for that matter. And common sense is not all that common. I hope the dear puppy gets well, and i'm sure the owner does too. Unless you have a lot of money, you won't buy a dogue on a whim. p.s. I had soooooooooo many people tell me that Zeus was/is a sad looking dog. They just know nothing about dogues. They can be very quiet and reserved at times........also, Zeus has allergies to all sorts of things that make him sick.

I know we are talking about dogs here but I think you have just described my 2 year old twins!!!!!!!! I have almost 100% recall with one, not so much with the other!!!!!!! My Dogue on the other hand.......about 99.5%, I'm happy with that.

I came across an ad the other day they had 'Boxadors' for sale. *shakes head* :) as if its some sort of new breed. pfft.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that a dog relies on his sight much less than humans because by comparison their other senses are far superior to ours. Either way I don't think anyone should euth their pets on a disability basis unless it is in pain or cant function etc my 2cents worth.

I would report it. I have been reported for less. eg. My dog barking through a fence and scaring the neighbours. Ranger came around pointing outside saying is that your dog. I nearly had a heart attack. Mine was in the backyard minding his own business though, of course. Come to find that the dog that was roaming around was the neighbours dog that complained about mine. Ahhh the injustice of it all........ Anyway, those kinds of people who dont control their dogs make it hard for everyone else and are the reason I don't take my dog to parks like that. That and the fact that Zeus' size/look makes us a target for trouble. Hope the arm heals up. My mums pup nips when she gets excited and I had one similar (though not as big) on my leg not long ago. Boy was I wild. lol.

I was looking at different breeds for months trying to decide what was best for me..... I wanted a Sibe coz they are gorgeous, but after looking into it, I decided they would drive me nuts. My brother and I have always loved the movie Turner and Hooch, it was actually the first movie I ever cried at. I walked out of the cinema all blotchy and sniffing!!!!! :D Anyway, was thinking Doberman, boxer....too much energy..... wanted someone to chill with. lol. So I looked into the DDB. Well..... they were sooooooooooo expensive I thought I'd never find the money. My brother kept coming over saying - hey, there's Dogues in the paper......but I couldn't afford it. A few weeks later I got my tax cheque back........so of we went on the 3hr drive. When we got there, the hugest red dog I have ever seen walked out towards the driveway......there was no-one there so I was NOT getting out of the car. Then the owner walked around with 2 puppies and the mummy in tow. I was so overwhelmed by the size of the sire that I wasn't taking much notice of the pups. I had never seen a DDB in the flesh and was really impressed. He was so docile. The breeder told us about the pups - one male, one female left, they were mini versions of their parents and sooo cute. I had wanted a female but when Zeus hopped up onto the couch to go back to sleep while we were there I couldn't believe it........I thought, he's so calm! Most pups I had been around would be jumping around your feet the whole time!! Well, at least a bit!!!! Then his sister went and sat beside him......my brothers phone rang (some ridiculous song) and the little girl started barking......Zeus just lifted and eyebrow. My brother said - See, she'd be a great watch dog! I said - yeah, but he knows its just a phone! LOL So I leaned over to pat him and he put his huge-for-a-pup paw in my hand and that was it. SOLD Apparently he was the biggest male. I already had his name picked out if I got a boy, but I nearly changed it to Romeo when we got home......everyone loves him - still to this day. When he was bitten by a snake not long back I had several phone calls a day asking after him!!! He's my dog, I'm his person Zeusie is the best!!!!!!!! P.S. Just when you thought you'd heard it all!!!!!!! That poor guy, he has enough to deal with without this kind of idiocy on top of it. Glad he put the time into it and got some compo, now others wont be put in the same situation. Wouldn't you think restaurant owners and the like would need to be on top of those kinds of things????? *trying to imagine a gay dog looks like..........nah, got nothing. LOL

I was thinking the same - my boy is tall and only weighs 45 - 50 kgs at the most - though he is pretty active for a dogue. Might have been a slight exaggeration. Either way, those poor babies, I can imagine my boy, so friendly..... :D wouldnt attack if someone hurt him, just try to run away. Just dont understand what the world is coming to...... As for crossing with a pitbull, hahahahahaha, how incredibly ignorant of her. Sensationalism at it's best. RIP Dogueys xoxoxo

As for what the original poster was asking.....I sure hope the oodle thing doesn't take over!!!!!!!!!! How boring!!!! And I think most of the cross breed fluffy what nots turn out to be ugly looking things, nothing like a well bred, pure bred dog if you ask me. At least you know what you are getting. P.S. The first couple of replies really threw me! Couldn't understand what ppl were so upset about, lucky for the posters after them or I would have thought I'd lost my marbles.

I said morning because that is what I usually do, but if he didn't eat the lot, I give the rest to him in the afternoon. It depends coz he's fussy. lol.

I am biased too, and I think someone already said it.... a Dogue de Bordeaux. My big boy is soooooooooo sweet, calm, attentive.....will follow me anywhere and sit at my feet.......one of the reasons I chose this breed is because they are lazy. Hyper dogs give me a headache :0) He's a bit stubborn but he knows he should do what I say and 99% of the time he does. I just read up on the way to be the pack leader and whatever, it's pretty easy once you know how. Everyone thinks he's my brothers dog or my boyfriends dog......hahahahahaha. I understand that he is a large animal and respect that, he respects that I know best. (and know where the food is!!!) and the drool thing is waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy exaggerated. it's actually cute to wipe their face after a drink when they are puppies hehehe. anyway, good luck with everything. I think Danes are awesome too but a little too big for me.

hi there, sorry if this has been said before but I didnt have time to read all the posts. I have a DDB who is 4.5 and has had pretty constant fungal ear infections and inflamed paws. Vets say he has atropy (or however you spell it) a food allergy. I had him on a special diet of roo meat and potatoes but that didntseem to make any difference, however the vet suggested dog food which was $80 for 8kgs worked a treat. it was anti allergy stuff. I am going to try him on some anti-histamines to see if that helps. when he is really allergic to something he eats, his hair can drop out too. He is so sensitive to EVERYTHING. Anyway, vet said his throat goes red as well. I know your pain - hugs!

Zeus is pretty well behaved but he can get a bit nasty with other dogs. Though its usually them that want to go him and he has a go back ..? He also wont get off the ute when I ask him (visitors car). It was weird, he just loves going for a ride and flat out would NOT do what he was told (get off the ute) I have successfully taught him not to do some of the naughty things mentioned and other things he doesn't do because its just not a trait of his breed - and that was just good planning - not my *cough* awesome training skills. lol. I would completely lose it if my dog wouldnt come when I called it, like some have mentioned. hats off to you, dont know how u do it.
