I have a 14 week old Dogue de Bordeaux..... she does a lot of sleeping and eating and growing....which is great but... the last couple of days she has turned up beside my bed ( while I am laying on it using my laptop) andshe sits and barks at me. lol, then if I don't acknowledge her, she starts jumping up, front paws on bed! She is not very vocal usually, and it actually cracks me up I just don't want to encourage bed jumping because I will be greatly displeased if she jumps up on my bed when she is bigger!! Anyone else's pup really cheeky? Do I ignore her when she barks at me? any ideas?

Colour / Pattern / Markings - Importance?
WillowGirl replied to Aziah's topic in General Dog Discussion
I didn't either, according to the standard though they also can have a brown mask. Yeah, sorry, the brown mask is on the red dogs (you cant really see it) and the 'no mask' is usually on the isabella (really fair) colour. 3 mask types. -
My DDB climbs into the washing basket to sleep! that's about it. You're dogs are beautiful and I love the pics :D

Colour / Pattern / Markings - Importance?

I won't own a black mask Dogue. I like/love the look of the red/no mask. So that's my only colour preference. -
Aww, love the video! :D

Think I might have to go volunteer at dogs Vic, they sound like they need some help!!! lol She is on main reg, I paid the extra money for it so I could show her.

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly. Your breeder should be able to give you a copy of the pup's 3 generation (or preferably 5) pedigree anyway - breeders I've dealt with have all given me those or had them on their website. So you ahould be able to do your pedigree stalking - it's fun, isn't it. :D But I agree - as well as checking with your breeder, check with Dogs Vic on the phone - and they will also be able to tell you whether you can enter a baby puppy with Number Applied For - or something like that. Yeah, I guess I could ask her to email me a copy for the pedigree stalking etc, was also wanting to show her, she fits within the standard so far and I thought it would be fun Was waiting to get her papers and then look at getting into it. I don't know a whole lot about it as yet!

I will need her papers if I want to show her though, right? The server is down on the dogs vic website
-
Oh phew! Thanks. It has been 5 weeks I have had her, so hopefully it's just a glitch and I will get them soon. I want to do some pedigree stalking

Hi, just wondering if this is the norm or not? When I got my first pb dog, I was given his papers at the time of purchase. All good.*6 years ago The second pup I bought I was told I would receive the papers in a few weeks, well, it never got to that as I had to return the pup due to it having a congenital condition. Then I bought another pup (not having much luck) and was told I would get the papers soon. That was 5 weeks ago and last I heard there was a mix up with Dogs Vic and the breeder would get onto it and call me by the end of the week. I guess what I am asking is .....Is it normal for reg breeders to not have the papers by 8 weeks and how long does it take them to go through the system? also, do all the puppies of the litter have to be reg all at once? thanks in advance

Happy 10th Birthday Casper
WillowGirl replied to White Shepherd mom's topic in General Dog Discussion
Happy Birthday Casper, what a gorgeous boy! -
I know what you mean and frankly it is part of the reason I have Dogues as my chosen breed. When I was a teenager I had a small dog and was petrified while walking him. Glad you rang the owner and gave him what for. Sorry your girl is now traumatized. Pretty sure these idiots have no clue as to the repercussions of their irresponsibility!

It is frustrating when the word 'pitbull' has become synonymous with 'scary/nasty' ......the media have a lot to answer for.

I have a few fave breeds, mainly mastiff types, I love Danes - though I have never had one. I own a Dogue De Bordeaux, he's 5, his name is Zeus and he is pretty big. Everyone says - geez that's a big dog. I chose the DDB because .... I was single and living alone and I knew a dogue would be a good guard dog. I love Hooch in 'Turner and Hooch'. I also knew that he would be relatively lazy, fairly clever and docile. It turns out he was all that and more, he is so devoted to me in such an understated way that he has touched my heart. I love that if I am with him and someone else (BF, Mum, anyone) calls him......he wont go. He wont go to them unless I go too. But will come to me as soon as I say his name, anytime. I love that he is so big and powerful but turns to putty as soon as i pat him. I love that he's a rarer breed I love that though he could quite easily hurt another dog he will always stop- move on - ignore - other dogs when I say so. I love that he still looks like a puppy. I love that he used to get a milk mo' that I had to wipe when he was a pup. I love that he has such a character that he is famous among my family and friends, and is often greeted before me. I love how if anyone throws a ball he just follows it with his eyes, totally uninterested. Then looks at you like....'what...? it's a ball...big deal.' ;) And after reading the Dane owners post I am glad I didn't teach him to shake!!! Welcome to DOL

Driving home this morning I noticed cars all slowing down, got a bit closer and saw 3 fox terriers on the road. The speed limit is 80 on this road so I channeled my fellow DOLers and took action! Pulled over and took them to the closest house, friendly little guys they were. Luckily it was the right house and she took them inside. I told her they were on the road and she said she would have to put them in the laundry ??? :D Anyway, that was my good deed for the day :D

Hello I Am Don Burke, Yeah Right!
WillowGirl replied to Wazzat Xolo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Was smiling and grinning all the way through til I got to this post and lost it with the 'dirty old perv' still laughing re-typing it! Poor Xolo's aren't even safe -
What a sicko. If a person can treat dogs like that, they are a potential danger to EVERYONE.

Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
WillowGirl replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
I seriously cannot believe the carry on. -
Ouch that sounds painful!! I got thrown like a cartoon character a couple of years back when Zeus was running towards me in the dark, turned to speak to my partner 'Here he comes' SMACK!!!!!! straight into the back of my legs! I went so high that i hit the ground with my elbows first. I think we both learned a lesson that night. Hope your injuries aren't too bad

What To Do If A Dog Off Lead Attacks Your Dog
WillowGirl replied to miss shel's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dog would make mince meat of most of the dogs I have seen about. It's for their dogs safety that I tell them off if they have their dog off-lead and it rushes us. But if there was more than one 1 dog attacking would be more than happy to lay the boot in or like a previous poster said - whatever means at my disposal - rocks, lol, handbag, LOL.
