Petplan have just hiked up their prices. There is another thread here http://www.dolforums...emium-increase/ People are pretty cranky over it..

It is a large lump of cash and I budget to do it though, but I pay an annual premium - that way they can't put it up without me agreeing. If you claim and you pay your premium monthly, you are obligated to pay the premiums for the rest of the 12 insurance term anyway. Do they have a weasel words clause that says they can change the monthly premium after some sort of "notice" ???

Slow Motion Footage Of Dog Drinking
SchnauzerMax replied to HollyMilo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Neither did I! Amazing! -
Um, I don't think this is true. I think in the first case it becomes negligent driving occasioning bodily harm or death (or whatever they call it these days - I think the term is different in different states) and in the second case it may be just a negligent driving charge and 3 points on your license. I do remember a case that was in the news some time ago. A lady was driving through a 40kph school zone and hit a child who ran out in front of her. I think the child died. It went to court and her defense was that she was doing less than the speed limit so it wasn't her fault. She lost the court case and I think did jail time. I think the summary was if a car hits a pedestrian, the car driver is automatically at fault.

One If My Dogs Has Been Hospitalised
SchnauzerMax replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in General Dog Discussion
The blood / plasma transfusion will make all the difference. It can literally be life saver. It was for my Max. Fingers crossed ! -
yes, this. I would strongly advise you to go to the vet and get them to run a blood test in case anything is amiss. Sounds like it could be symptoms of something like a liver shunt, though it might be a million other things as well. That's just from my experience. Bloods would be the first place I would start to rule out anything sinister. x 2

When I broached the topic of titre testing with one of the local vets all I got was blank looks and techno-babble. They have switched to the 3 year protocol for C3 vaccinations, so I have another year before I have to worry about it with Max and 18 months for Remy.

If you want to know if he is going to get any taller, get your vet to x-ray his legs to see if the growth plates have closed. If they have closed, he won't be any taller but he will get heavier (because of the testosterone). Otherwise it's just wait and see.

Birgitbee, schnauzers are a bit like the mafia, you're in da family or you're not. In Abby's case, this is you and especially your husband. The more your grandchildren visit, the more accepting Abby will be, but she may never be really enthusiastic about visitors, even regular ones. We like to think that because they are so attached when we are around, that they won't cope with other people when we are not there. Its usually not so. They usually cope fine.

Cocker Spaniel Elevated Liver Enzymes
SchnauzerMax replied to temperamentfirst's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Only if she was burying them and eating them much much later. But I would also expect diarrhea / vomiting as well. Maybe a plant in the backyard? Some plants seeds are way more toxic and attractive to dogs than their foliage. -
Problem With My Dog's Eye...what Could This Be?

Desperation measures - as long as it is a 'normal' sort of antibiotic not slow release or anything fancy. Smash the tablet into dust and mix with water to make a solution. Put into a syringe and syringe it into the dog's mouth. This is the only way I can get my miniature schnauzer to take antibiotics. -
Define tiny and CBD. The inner city has dog friendly parks depending on where you are living / working. I know of quite a few dogs who live in small terraces or in apartments and excluding the westies, most are medium or even large sized. Some even go to work with their people!

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
SchnauzerMax replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
Lhok, sounds like 'roid rage. Maybe 20 mg of pred is too much? You should discuss with your vet but maybe splitting the pred over 2 doses 12 hours apart might help? -
Pancreatitis - Help With Managing
SchnauzerMax replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
When Hills changed the formulation of the I/D food, no dog in my house would eat it! We resorted to 4 Legs (fresh from refrigerated section in supermarket) or poached chicken breast with rice and a dab of low fat yoghurt. And yes it was commented that they ate better than we did  -

I for the most part walk my dogs separately. Max is tiny and Remy is large in comparison to Max. Remy needs a good brisk walk for about half an hour and Max likes to wander, sniff and pee. Remy is a social butterfly but Max only has his favourites. Usually I take Remy out and then take Max for a slower easier stroll. It works for me!

Her picture is upside down .. on tapatalk at least. It makes her look like she is hanging from the ceiling and the chair ? in the background looks like skinny spider legs!

Christmas reindeer antlers or birthday hats or even a superman cape/ t-shirt are things that come to mind. Anything that makes him look goofy rather than serious.

Neighbor Complaining About Barking..
SchnauzerMax replied to charli73's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't think this would help. If the neighbour 'hears' the dog barking when it can't possibly be barking or isn't even at home then it sounds like mental health issues. I'd bet that if the dog was debarked, she would still complain about it barking. -
You might try talking about the costs of a large dog - the large amount of food they eat etc. Also, just storing food and bedding etc. It's a lot easier (and cheaper) with a SWF or a cat!

Liver Cancer And Acute Infection In A 13 Year Old Maltese
SchnauzerMax replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in Aged Dog Care
I'm sorry your family is going through this. The short answer is probably yes. Liver cancer is an awful, awful disease. If he won't eat and he is on pain medication, then you are approaching that point where you can't keep him comfortable.
