  1. Both my old dogs (RIP) used various anti-inflammatories for arthritis. When Previcoxx or Rimadyl were used daily and for long periods of time they both developed pancreatitis which subsided when they stopped the drug. If I remember correctly, we had to be very careful about the dosage and the timing. I think we halved the recommended daily dose and in the other instance we alternated days with Tramadol. This is not to say that you will have the same problems but the pancreatitis stemmed from an elderly dog with an elderly liver which couldn't process the drugs as fast as a young healthy dog. Interestingly, my elderly mother has the same problem with NSAIDs. EFS

  3. Great suggestion as well as that post by Yonjuro ( of the honey). Months ago Horrible Herbert went ages between card rides. We had lots of dramas including great poops. Entirely our fault. We worked on letting Herbert get in the car & drive for just 5 mins, then go home. After a week or so of daily rides, the unhappiness stopped. Another point is to check that the tyre pressure of your car is correct. If inaccurate, it can affect the ride of the car. Dont feed your boy before his ride either. Ginger biscuits can work too. (Unless Momma eats them. At least she feels better :) ) And don't take him for a ride after you've given him his Comfortis tablet (up to 24 hours). we've had some spectacularly bad experiences with that!
  4. I do the same thing with Max because his mouth is tiny and forcing pills down his throat is unpleasant for both of us. Some medications can be dispensed as a paste which you then squirt a measured dose into their mouth. The last lot of antibiotics Max had was like this. I think it is designed primarily for cats but Max doesn't know that
  5. It looks like Readings still have some.. http://www.readings.com.au/products/17988479/dogservations-life-lessons-from-experts
  6. My mini schnauzer Zeppi (RIP) had one. He lost the canine and the small teeth around the canine, in order to get good margins. We used a specialist surgeon because oral surgery can be a bit tricky and it was the type that grows into the surrounding tissue (acanthomatous). I don't remember how much the operation cost. It was over ten years ago now. Epulis keep growing so while they are "benign" they have to be removed. There used to be a dog in the states called "Pumpkin" who was abandoned and had one. The poor dog looked like it had a pumpkin growing out of its mouth. http://www.pugrescue...rg/pumpkin.html
  7. Financial Services Ombudsman http://www.fos.org.au/ 1300 78 08 08 Have look through the website. Make sure you know what outcome(s) you want to happen.
  8. I just received the renewal paperwork from Petplan (that should have arrived 3 weeks ago). The cover letter is addressed to me but the certificate of insurance is for a 5 year old female chocolate Labrador called Ruby who lives in Tullamarine, Victoria. Considering Remy is a 3 year old male schnauzer and the certificate of insurance also has Ruby's owner's name and address, I'm a bit concerned. I know Petplan is better on paper but what price do you put on getting the basic details right? EFS
  9. One of the differences may be the death benefit. You can opt out of it hence smaller price.
  10. If you have a strong magnet you should be able to use it on the bag of poop without having to examine it in detail. Remy ate a box of staples once. The x-ray at the emergency vets showed he had chewed them thoroughly - no open ones to be seen. The solution was lots of soft food and a rare earth magnet against his bags of poop. Needless to say after 2 days his poop was magnetic!!
  11. I'm moving Remy (my standard schnauzer) to Medibank. Max (my mini schnauzer) was with Medibank from the start, so I get an additional discount for Remy. If next year sees huge increases with Medibank, then I will be doing the same as you . ETA. I still have not received a renewal for Remy from Petplan. I pay annually instead of direct debit, so I wonder what will happen?
  12. I thought I recognised her dogs
  13. Kmart nappy bags $4 for a box of 200.
  14. There's actually a form on their website that you fill in for cancellation. You have to fax it or mail it or scan and and email it, though.
  15. You'd be surprised. For my first trip to Costco I saved over $100 after the joining fee was accounted for. I used a spreadsheet to track prices and I always came out way ahead. Consumables like paper towels and toilet paper are a great deal cheaper, if you have the space for the extra large quantities.
  16. You can pull the pin immediately if you haven't claimed in the current insurance year. If you have claimed, you are up for the annual amount anyway.... it's the way insurance works even though you are paying a monthly instalment.
  17. Tramadol has some nasty side effects in some dogs. It seems to affect their vision / balance which makes them exceedingly stressed and anxious which in turn defeats the purpose of giving it.
  18. If you spray a solution of sugar and water on it, it will help it to shrink back quicker. Desexing in some cases will help. It depends on the root cause (no pun intended).
