Not sure whether this is totally correct, but I have been told that if a dog hold pee this could lead to bladder stones. I would probably ask the question of your vet, or your pup's breeder.

Side Effects Of Feeding Dogs Bread?
twodoggies2001 replied to heroeswit's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Why don't you just tell your neighbour that you know how much she likes your dogs, but what she is doing in feeding them bread is making them quite ill because they are allergic to the ingredients and after several visits to the vet, he advised you that they need to be kept away from bread. -
Reservoir Dogs Dig Under Fence, Kill Neighbour's Pet
twodoggies2001 replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in In The News
Just heard an interview on the radio and the guy in charge at the council did say that the at least one of the dogs was a pit bull but the 3 had previously been registered as staffy crosses. When this new legislation came in these dogs were not registered by the owner. There must be a reason for this, don't you think? Anyway, pit bulls or not, these dogs have now proven they are in the dangerous dog category!! Again an irresponsible owner. -
I buy the medium and cut them in half for my mini schnauzers. I was told that this is a really bad idea? Not giving them the proper treatment or something like that. It was actually me vet who suggested this to me and also told me that you can give them every 6 weeks rather that every month.

Getting Puppy To Sleep Not On The Bed Help Please :)
twodoggies2001 replied to kitkatswing's topic in Puppy Chat
Sorry, have to disagree. Dogs are pack animals and you and your husband are part of his pack. Each and every dog we have had the privelage to have live with us from a great dane down to mini schnauzers have shared our home with us, inside and out and that means sleeping also. You want him to be part of the family and that means all of the time. I'm all for letting dogs share the home for sleeping too. You mentioned that you had him micro chipped. I thought it was illegal to sell a puppy without having this done. -
Pomeranian Puppy Toilet Terror/ Am I Going Mad?
twodoggies2001 replied to Cattleya's topic in Puppy Chat
It all takes time. Ask you mum how long it takes for a human baby to be toilet trained. -
I just don't know what the appeal of this mix was and believe me, if I would have known they were looking to buy a pup, I would have steered them to a shelter or a purebreed. I was also very concerned about the size of the mother. I mentioned to my sister that obviously the mum was the larger dog and was gobsmacked when it wasn't. I told her that the 'breeder' should, if she was at all responsible taken the bitch to be aborted if she suspected the pregnancy. The problem here is that at 8 weeks old, she has only 1 puppy left and it was most likely easy money for her, so the mating may be repeated. Some people never get it do they? It seems that her males are of the bigger variety. It may have been 'accidental' or purposely intended, who knows.

My sister called me and told me her daughter bought a new puppy. I asked what breed. Now get this. Mum a Pomeranian and the dad was a German Shepherd/Kelpie cross. I was told she had lots lots of dogs and my first thought and words were it's a puppy mill. Oh no she said. This was from a private home. Apparently, there were around 9 dogs there. My heavens what were they thinking. Both the 'breeder' and my family. She was only $200 I was told and she is eating Science Diet. She rang the 'breeder's vet and apparently the pups have been vaccinated, so that's one good thing and the vet was very pleased that she now has only one puppy left to sell. Where is the professional advice from a supposedly learned expert? The mind boggles. I certainly hope that this puppy has not genetic problems later in life.

That was the exact question I was about to ask after reading through the posts. My boy Jasper, who just turned 4 had a seizure the other night first time, out of the blue and it was the most frightening thing I have ever encountered. This happened in the middle of the night, lasted a few seconds lost his bodily functions and when it was all over, got up as if nothing happened. He was also breathing and panting very heavily, which I believe woke me. I certainly hope t was a one off.

Weight Control Dog Food
twodoggies2001 replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I saw your chi on another thread and he is one big big chi. If you love Rascal, you will slim him down pronto mainly to save his life. The only brand of weight control food is you. I don't believe in these foods. All you need to do is not feed him so much. He's not getting huge from fresh air. It's from what goes into his mouth. Just bulk up the food with raw grated veggies. Carrots and green beans are great for this. If he looks at you with those soulful eyes it's you that needs the self control. You have to be heard hearted Hannah and just ignore him when he wants more food. Please, so not kill him with 'kindness' -
Lol, I can top that!!! I have had Great Danes and now I have miniature schnauzers. Like you, the smaller size suits our lifestyle too. Funny though, when we had the Dane, people were afraid of him and some of the comments were mind boggling, but he was just a pussy cat and played ever so gently with miniature dogs.

Grrrr...idiots At Off Leash Dog Only Parks

Not a good idea if the other dogs ran out too. What if they menaced you or your dog/s outside the enclosed area. -
Seriously.. It's Humans Who Wreck Dog Park Fun For Dogs
twodoggies2001 replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think we have to give these people the benefit of the doubt. It was mentioned that they were Asian. Perhaps they were a tourist group? Having said that, they probably regretted making the decision to have their barbeque in that particular location. I'll give another scenario. Yesterday I was at my local off lead park with my mini schnauzer and I met another lady who had the same breed. We stopped and chatted for a while when suddenly her dog ran up to another dog owner and wouldn't leave her side. This lady was also walking her dog. My boy stayed around me but the other boy followed the other owner and dog and started jumping on the lady. I mentioned to his owner that the dog is a fair distance from us and her comment was that her boy knew there were treats and he wanted some. She made no attempt to call her dog back and could see that the other owner was not in the least bit pleased, trying to make the intruder sit and then trying to shoo him away. To me that shows irresponsibility. It's no wonder some non dog people don't like us. You own a dog or two, it is imperative you keep your charges under control in public. We are priveleged to have areas where we can let our dogs off lead but not to the detriment of other park users. -
Emaciated Ig With Pancratitis
twodoggies2001 replied to indigirl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
does he still have the symptoms that come with pancreatitus? If he does, he should be seen by a vet who will most likely fast him until he is over it and then roo meat would be OK. That's what I fed my boy once he was able to eat after his attack. Fat free cottage cheese and the same with natural yoghurt. I was advised to feed hard boiled eggs as a protein source too. Red kidney beans is also a very good source of protein and then he can gradually go onto other meats which are low in fat. -

Vegetarian Dog Food In Australia?
twodoggies2001 replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Where abouts in Victoria are you? Perhaps you could consult animal nutritionist. I took my boy to a holistic vet when he developed a drug induced pancreatic attack. My 'normal' vet advised me that I had to feed a specially formulated commercial diet, whereas I always fed my boys raw and natural. Another vet that I was speaking to asked me, hands on hips, 'do you want your dog to die? This was because I was resisting feeding the commercial diet. I told this hands on hips doc. what a stupid question he asked. This holistic vet I finally went to adjusted his diet to suit and he still is fed raw. -

My boy also had a liver shunt, diagnosed at 6 months old. He is now 14 years old. He was operated on at Werribee by the specialist vets there and was put on a low protein diet but there was never any mention of cutting out meat in his diet. He was fed proteins in the form of cottage cheese, eggs chicken, and honestly, I can't remember any more, but I am sure if you google, you will find recipes for this awful affliction. After a few months on this restricted diet, he was able to eat practically anything, provided it was not too fatty. He has survived till now, although his age dictates his health I suppose, but this is not connected to his liver shunt. -
Council Shocked As Dog Owners Offer Pit Bulls For Death
twodoggies2001 replied to silentchild's topic in In The News
Just heard on the news that some owners are just locking their dogs out and not letting them back home. Is that more responsible than handing them into council? Agreed, if the owners do want them euthanized, then they should in my opinion be taken to their own vet, not dropped off like trash but unfortunately, there are trash dog owners out there. -
I just had a friend tell me that she was told that male dogs have an odour and that females don't. Is there any basis to this statement? She said that her male dog smells and that her daughter's female has no smell at all.

Well, that new proud owner could now have a ticking time bomb on his hands. Not a good feeling!!!! Wonder how many more were in that litter

This morning in the Herald Sun letters section, there was a letter from Carol St. Kilda regarding her walking her beautiful gentle giant old Ridgeback when she came across a six week old pit bull pup with it's proud track-suited owner. Carol states that the pup was snarling and trying to attack her ridgie. She also says the 'attack' was unprovoked in a pup so young. Could this be possible with a pup so young? I am on the fence regarding pitbulls, but her inference of the 'track-suited' owner shows me her bias. Is she perhaps making a mountain out of a mole hill? If this is possible, then there is another potential killer growing up in the suburbs.
