The Difference Between Cats And Dogs
twodoggies2001 replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
awww I think someone should have rescued the puppy at the end, it was terrified. I feel the whole idea was to have the puppy conquer it's fears and who better to help but mum. Just gorgeous. -
I forgot to say in my previous post, I do have all the puppy vaccinations up to 16 weeks or thereabouts and then they have the titre test

Adverse Reactions To C4 Vaccinations
twodoggies2001 replied to waynem1966's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have mine titre tested and it's no more expensive than a vaccination. -
I have stopped vaccinating my dogs but I do have them titre tested. IN all the years and one of my boys is now over 6 years old, he has always kept up immunity. A previous boy that I had reacted very badly when he had the puppy booster at 16 weeks of age and that is when I opted for the titre testing. I still give them Sentinal Spectrum every 6 weeks.

We had a Standard Schnauzer who went full pelt into a concrete bench at the park and continued on his merry way without even a bat of an eyelid. I thought the worst, but he was not even phased.

Help - How Do I Scare Off An Indian Myna
twodoggies2001 replied to shirra's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have had the Noisy Myna (they're the light grey ones) swoop the dogs and me for that matter at the park and this happens when they are protecting their nest. I wonder if you could use a rubber snake or perhaps a fake owl as a deterrent. Good luck. -
Mini Schnauzers sleep like that too

Our family downsized in dogs years ago, but at the biggest stage, we had Great Danes. They were pussy cats in disguise. It's unbelievable the amount of people who would cross the road just to get away from us. On the other hand, I had a terrified, hysterical woman scoop up her miniature poodle to escape my 3 month old miniature schnauzer at the park one day.

Advice Needed - Incident With My Labrador
twodoggies2001 replied to Georgina Ebony's topic in General Dog Discussion
Really?? How compassionate when it was their dog that was injured. Agreed. I am also bewildered why assistance wasn't offered with paying a vet bill. Twodoggies2001 - this man was very angry (as you would be) he was yelling at us picked his dog up quickly and walked off not allowing a chance for a conversation to take place to exchange details etc otherwise i would have definitly offered with the vet bill and contact details to find out if his dog was ok after vet check up Point taken and I didn't want to appear patronizing. I do hope his little dog is OK. It would always be on my mind regarding the outcome. -

Wouldn't that be more accredited to nose rather than brain?

Marrow bones are not the same as Raw Meaty Bones. The latter are the ones that the dogs can actually eat and digest. The marrow bones is what I would call recreational bones. I like that term! My dog gets a range of RMB, chicken frame, turkey wing and lamb flap are probably the ones he gets and enjoys the most. The butcher gets him a few little recreational bones to play with, he has fun stripping off whatever is left on but it's not the meal that the RMB are. I think after finally trying a raw based diet I couldn't go back to biscuits and cans so I select my vets carefully. Even if they aren't pro raw they don't try and convince me to swap. My dogs have all been transitioned over to raw from the time they came to live with me as baby puppies. I don't have any commercial pet food here and I hope the dogs appreciate me for that. I go to a holistic vet so I'm lucky all round.

If I knew my my boy would be happy accepting another into the household, I would go ahead and do so. You may be surprised how grateful your boy will be and for you, when that terrible day comes along, there will be another dog waiting at home to be loved. That's just me though. I have been through both scenarios, coming home to a dogless home and then at other times, coming home to another dog. It does make the grieving easier. but that decision is entirely yours to make. Best of luck with your boy and with whatever decision you finally make.

Lawsuit Over Buying A Crossbred To Breed More Crossbreds
twodoggies2001 replied to redangel's topic in In The News
Even though the owner in this case bought the dog for a 'special' purpose to breed even more crossbreeds, she is not as stupid as one might think, She at least got a $200 refund lol. -
Best way to find out is to speak to Mr. Google

You go very very early, or very very late. :) Very very early in the morning the park is actually more utilised by people before work and very very late is a no no because of unknown dangers. As i said before I haven't come across people like this one over the many years I have been using the park. Thankfully it's the first time I've seen her there and perhaps, this happened with other dog owners and she has gotten the message through others.

For what? Huh? I really don't understand that the OP proposed to report. That the dog wasn't under effective voice control? The owner didnt' call it. That the owner didnt' seem to give a toss that her dog was annoying others and did nothing when it was brought to their attention? Not a reportable issue as far as I can ascertain. Lets not forget that the encounter was orignally agreeable to both owners. You want a high level of control and courtesy fromm other users in a public dog park? Easily fixed. Go when the park is empty. Otherwise, expect more of the same. Or find one that is divided into big and small dog sections and hope that people actually respect the divide. I reiterate that is why I asked should I have reported it. Yes it was because the dog was not under the control of the owner and yes, she didn't give a toss when brought to her attention. I didn't say that the first encounter was agreeable to both of us as owners. It may have been agreeable to the mindless owner and I did say that I don't mollycoddle my dogs but it was not of my choosing that this dog came bounding over at speed and nothing was done top try and stop him by his owner. Now tell me in all honesty. How can you pick the times when there is nobody else using the facility? There are always other dog people there and I have never come across an ignorant, mindless dog owner as this one. Anyway, I believe in karma so, one day....

Depends on the individual dog.

Lol. One of my boys also decided to eat one of my knee high stockings but he decided to let it loose at the park one day. There were a lot of curious onlookers that day as I was assisting.

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. Just like humans, they all have different personalities. I now have two minis ans they love interaction with people and dogs alike but several years ago, we had a mini who kept to himself entirely. He would greet visitors at the door and then take off to be by himself. He was never brought up or treated any differently to our other canine resident at the time. Your girl may still be feeling her way in her new surroundings. Maybe in her case it would be an idea if the grandchildren or any other visitors were to coax her with treats. I know this succeeded with my boy when my first granddaughter was born. He totally ignored her and whenever she came for me to babysit her, I would feed both dogs just a little of what the baby was getting to eat. My other boy absolutely adored the baby, but Benson, the boy in question kept his distance. He soon learned that when baby came over, it was good for him as he got to share, and when she started to crawl he began to play with her. It took a while but not long after that he did bond with her and would stay by her side and protect her. I would just impress on the children that they be gentle and respectful with Abby as I am sure they will be.

I wouldn't have called it aggressive. They took the rude behaviour for quite a while and then warned the dog. And by the way, I was not just standing around watching. I was trying to go my own way in the opposite direction to where the mindless owner was going.
-
Well, that's why I asked.

Yesterday, I took my two mini Schnauzers, as I have done over the years, to the of leash dog park. There was a young woman there with a largish cross breed dog which has the colouring of a dobie. The dog was a young and exuberant boy, not a vicious bone in his body and for a while was playing with my boys. Then his play got a bit too exuberant and my boys were warning and chasing him off. I indicated to the owner that she call him off and her reply was that he's OK. Well, he was not OK. I must stress that it was only play, but that's not the point. The owner had absolutely no control over her dog and just walked away, leaving him being growled and barked at and chased off by my two. She seemed indifferent to what was going on. I yelled and growled at him until he finally left. I know it's too late now, but should I have reported this to council? My boys were not afraid of him and I don't mollycoddle them either.
