Okay so if I get our second shot tomorrow is it safe to now walk him around the block and walk the kids to school? I would really love to get him out for some exercise particularly first thing in the morning. Is it dog parks that are the most dangerous?

Does Anyone Choose Not To Crate Train?
mumsy replied to BooBooBear's topic in General Dog Discussion
I keep Wilson on his bed next to ours. I hear him during the night ( once only) and I take him straight outside. He wees and then we both go straight back to bed. He now goes to bed about 10 - 11 and I get up between 4-5 am with him and then back to bed until 6-6:30. All I can say in the way of advice is do what you believe is the best thing for you. Take in all the advice people have to give and then see what YOU feel is right. Lots of good advice on here and lots of helpful people. If it makes you feel any better, while i'm on here I have heard the kids telling Wilson 'no' alot!! -
Does Anyone Choose Not To Crate Train?

Sorry poodlefan, I didn't mean to say it was one way or the other. The only reason we tried without it was the cost of a crate when I wasn't sure it would be used alot. I do appreciate the advice you have been giving us along the way too! :D -
Does Anyone Choose Not To Crate Train?
mumsy replied to BooBooBear's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have an eleven week old puppy. We didn't have a crate and we put him in the bathroom, with bed, toys etc for two nights. He howled, scratched and cried. The next night I put his bed next to ours and he went straight to his bed and went to sleep. I hear him start to move around and get him up and outside. He toilets immediately and we go back to bed. He goes straight to his bed and back to sleep. During the day we can block off all the carpetted areas of the house so I keep an eye on him and toilet him often. We have had one or two mistakes, but that isn't his fault, it is ours for not watching. He comes in the car with us and sits quietly in his harness. He is now starting to go to the door and whimper when he wants out. For us crate training wasn't that important. I want him on the couch with us and until he is old enough I am happy to do the trip out at night. He now sleeps from about 11pm to 4 or 5 am. I think crate training is great if that's what you like otherwise I'm happy to supervise. -
We have only had Wilson for a week so here is the only I have with him Great thread everyone!!

Only sticking to Wilson. He is just lovely but for now it's a one boxer household!!

Sorry Scouty, I missed your question. We are getting him from a breeder in Melbourne. She has been breeding for over thirty years so hopefully all will go well.

He is a boxer and is 11 weeks old now. At what age can you give them whole chicken frames? -

I haven't given any bones yet but we have only had him less than a week. It is beef pet mince not chicken. I too am concerned about keeping all the nutrients in his diet. Is it better to go chicken as well with all the bone in it? Will start researching this afternoon -

This IS the diet the breeder told me to follow. She gave me the meat, cereal and gluten free pasta. Happy for all suggestions cause we would really love to get this right!! -

Okay. the meat I got from the breeder. It is pet mince freshly frozen and then defrosted each day. About 250gm a day at the moment. The cereal is a human cereal ( mixed grains etc) or she said weetbix or similar. About equal amounts of gluten free pasta or basmati rice as meat. His veg at this point have mostly been grated carrot with some leftover steamed veg from our dinner. The kibble was just to put something in his Kong to keep him playing with it. -

I wondered about the lactose intolerance. Instead of the cereall and milk meal, what would you replace it with? Is yougurt or cheese still okay? -

QUOTE (mumsy @ 27th Jan 2010 - 09:03 AM) QUOTE (TeamSnag @ 27th Jan 2010 - 08:00 AM) I been there tried BARF all my dogs did was shit!!! So now they have royal canin and some meat and other things mixed in, and bones here and there.. Glad to be back to 2 shits a day We have a new puppy and he has a BM about six times a day. Is this typical on BARF? This is our first puppy although we have had an adult dog before. Is there a link on DOL to more info on BARF. My concerns with this diet for us is getting the balance and all the nutrients right. Puppies poo more than adult dogs. What are you feeding him? He is on cereals and milk with yougurt twice a day and raw meat with veg and or rice ( or gluten free pasta) twice a day. Sometimes an egg yolk mixed in or a little cheese . He gets a little bit of kibble in his kong to keep him busy. -

Thanks everyone. I have talked to someone already regarding puppy training. We have to wait a couple of weeks before his second shot so I thought I would get a head start....before Wilson( our new puppy) does!!! I figure if I can raise 4 girls hopefully I can raise 1 boxer!!

We have just brought home a gorgeous 10 week old puppy. I don't have foxtel, but I was told we should get the Dog Whisperer DVD. Any thoughts on this and is there a difference between the american or an australian version?
-
We just brought our ten week old boxer home yesterday. We put him in the bathroom last night after a big play, toys, bed etc. He howled for about an hour then eventually went to sleep and slept til 6:30 with no mistakes in the bathroom. My only concern letting him sleep elsewhere is if he pees. We have carpet everywhere else. Once toilet trained I have no problem where he sleeps. Any suggestions.

Thanks everyone, my 10 week old white boy is coming home tomorrow. Can't wait!!
-
Tomorrow morning we pick up our beautiful 10 week old boy!! OMG what are we in for? Thanks for all the help.
-
Does anyone have any thoughts on white boxers?
-
I have spoken to a few breeders and done some internet searches. Neither puppy is deaf or blind. We do realise the skin cancer issue.
-
The research we have seen regarding white boxers seems to go against that. Although we will have to be careful of ears etc in the sun which we are happy to do. They are not free but are a little cheaper. I'm not sure how much socialisation the 5 month old has had and that is my only concern.
-
Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll try and call the breeder to let her know. If we could only take them all!!
-
We have met both the pups and they are both lovely. I think the breeder felt like we would be a great match for the older girl ( as well as the pup) but she knows it will be easier rehoming the younger. I know she is really keen on her dogs going to a good home. Both dogs are white boxers, one male and the older one is female. My girls loved the little boy because of his looks, but they are both lovely dogs. I just don't know what to decide!
