  1. RIP little ones, hugs to you MissMolly
  2. Ouch lovemesideways, Sorry in my haste to reply this morning I completely forgot to mention hope you have a speedy full eventful free recovery.
  3. I nearly lost the tip of my left index finger when I got some bone out of my Great Dane girls mouth when I thought she was about to choke. She was fine I went to the hospital and had surgery and have a good functioning finger with greater sensation than the other fingers.
  4. Emma, hope you get an extra special yummy cake!
  5. Can understand your frustration with that, surely they can fix the fence where she gets out? Hope she doesn't get out again she may not be so lucky and find someone like you next time.
  6. Thinking of all humans and animals in Queensland, hope you can all stay safe.
  7. I stopped going to the beach mainly because people assume a large dog will attack them or their dog. Doesn't matter if you have your dog under control or not if it is big in their eyes it isn't to be trusted. Once on the dog beach a few years ago I put Sparkles on her lead because I could see something small in the distance that was a baby crawling during summer holidays too. Don't like tourists at all and even some regulars can be horrible, one lady whose dog happily played with Sparkles told me off afterwards saying she was too big to be at the beach. Sure she is big a Great Dane dangerous or viscious no but I now avoid dog beaches when it is holiday time or very hot the abuse isn't worth it. Kazads jot a few notes about today down so if the lady does complain to council you have a good record and let council know what happened. Shouldn't get to that point, it never hurst to be prepared and give Nala a big hug and pat from me
  8. Interesting shot raineth. The best way to learn is just keep taking photos and experimenting, having said that I have become very lazy photographer and need to get back into using the SLR properly.
  9. I've read it before and can't read it because I will be in tears again. I have often thought it should be on Pet shop windows so people read it before making a very quick puppy or other pet purchase. It should also be required reading before Christmas for any possible pet purchases.
  10. Why don't you try a TAFE or Community College see if someone there could make one for you someone in Bunnings might too. Never hurts to ask.
  11. Used one with my old Dane and it was a good lead, she didn't pull at all and I could take it to the beach and the clip never rusted or got clogged with sand. My new Dane was 9 months old when I got her and the stretchy bit broke in the lead when she pulled once too often, I tried another one on her and she broke it too. Would never buy another one again except to use at the beach or for regular water use. I'd keep going with your pup the way you are, the stretchy leads do help prevent jarring of shoulders but will never replace proper training.
  12. Mine just barges in if she wants to get under the shower I don't take her in there to bath her I leave that for a groomer. The cat also comes in too, but he is odd and thinks he is a small Great Dane
  13. Not really able to give any advice because my two are best of friends. Remember you aren't the only one to put their hand in the wrong place at the wrong time, I nearly lost the top of a finger when my dog accidently bit it when I took some bone from her mouth - my fault she didn't realise my hand was there and there certainly was no nastiness in her at the time. As mentioned before make sure the heirachy is set and try and keep Jed from going near Pudicus, make areas that are accessible only by Pudicus too. Also just because Jed is bigger don't unerestimate the damage Pudicus can do with his claws, one in an eye could be devastating. Reward both of them for good behaviour too. Hope your hand is okay and you got as painless a tetanus jab as possible you may need antibiotics for the bite just as a cover because dog mouths are really quite yuccky.
  14. Inside dog here too, free to go outside as she wishes.
  15. I would never rent a property with pets without a written agreement. Once with a rental property with permission to have our dog after moving in and being there for a while we discovered our neighbour was also the landlady. No way could we have hidden our dog from her but as she was aware from the start we had a dog it was never a problem.
  16. No problems with the nurses or vet answering the phone or agreeing to see my pets if needed. Never had a problem going in after hours either probably because I don't abuse that facility there are lots of people who do I have seen and heard them when I have been in the Vets. There is also another mentality with some members of the public who want to get phone advice rather than have to pay for a consult or wait (speaking from experience with humans not pets).
  17. Perhaps you could try one of the Universities in Sydney they may have some students looking for accommodation and you could probably give them a base while they look for somewhere permanent. Good luck, if you are desperate for your hairies to have a walk I could come down on the odd day off and take them for you.
  18. No walks for my girl if it is hot, too hot for me too hot for her is the way I look at it. Today I did get up early to take her for a good walk and during the day she has been hosed down a few times and runs around after that getting a bit more exercise. If it is too hot to walk her and my work won't let me walk when it is cool I will put her in the car and take her for a drive so she gets out, she loves the car at least I know she isn't getting too hot. On hot days when I'm at work I set the aircon on timer so the lounge room will stay cool for her, she can still go out if she wants to and if she gets too cool she can go to another room in the house.
  19. That's great She will get use to it I think it is not so much they don't want to jump in it is more making sure they fit and don't hurt themselves getting in. Once she gets use to it I think you might have trouble stopping her from leaping into the car.
  20. I agree pee is okay but poo is another matter mainy because someone around here doesn't pick it up and that really annoys me. My neighbour doesn't have a dog and if I see some little (it is usually only little dog poo) dogs poo on her lawn on my daily pick up at home I nip over and pick it up for her, she keeps a very nice garden and is a very good neighbour.
  21. I changed my car last year from a sedan my girl just took a step into to a SUV and found jumping in the back was a problem so I bought a ramp and with encouragement Sparkles would walk up the ramp I used it for about 2 weeks and only at home then one day while the ramp was ready to use she jumped in and has done so since. I used the ramp last week to get my lawn mower in the car so it could be fixed always knew it would be useful for something else. Now I have the ramp I am pleased because I never know when I might need it.
  22. Happy 16th Birthday Kuges, hope you got spoilt rotten and had a wonderful day.
  23. I'm with Petplan they cover illness and accident, I haven't had any problems with them. I don't think any will cover desexing. RubyStar have you spoken to the same person each time with your problems or different people? I think my policy has the name of someone in the company and if I ever had any problems that would be who I would contact.
  24. Sparkles will drop a bone for a walk but when she comes home she goes straight to to bone to make sure it is still where she left it.
  25. My girl doesn't like raw kangaroo meat often vomits after eating it. If you are feeding it just check if there are any preservatives in it I have heard of dogs having bad reactions to preservatives rather than the meat istself.
