  1. We bought a pig in med medium for our 2 cavaliers. The pup has got it straight away and now loves going out and in, out and in. My older boy is resistant and doesn't like it. Since it was only installed yesterday, I shan't worry yet...just lure him with food
  2. Ok it is not really unusual but I love it Porthos is miss marked, the breeder even said it was a shame he was so miss marked, BUT we love it about him. We don't want to show, so don't care about it - we love that he is healthy and happy and a little brown smudge on one side of his face means nothing ;) (or his wonky eyes)
  3. Everyone's Puppies sound so cute - love hearing antics of Pups! We had a dog door installed today (pig in mud brand) with soft pvc flap. Porthos could be coaxed through with treats but my older cav was resistant. I just heard Porthos head through it and then he cried at it to come back in (daft dog). This is Porthos being a cockroach on the couch
  4. Porthos is 21 weeks old, weighs 5.4kg and; Sleeps through the night (most of the time) Sits on command Shakes a paw on command Goes into the "down" position (most of the time) on command Has a good recall (as tested off lead at dog training) ~ scary stuff! is fully toilet trained and will go outside or if locked inside, pees on puppy pads is a complete nutter who terrorises his older "Brother" Dog I the little bugger Susan
  5. we bought heaps of the kmart ones awhile ago. My older dog was marking his bed sometimes so I found it easy to throw cheapie blankets in the wash and just swap as necessary. I love them!
  6. My little one had the op 2 weeks ago and had his stitches out on Saturday. (He also had an umbilical hernia op at same time) and microchipping all whilst under. He was snuggly, cuddly and just wanted to be near us for 24 hours afterwards but then was right as rain. He licked his stitches once, scratched them a few times and apart from that, didn't even realise they were there. We had pain meds for him from the vet but he didn't need them. He also is on Royal Canin Intestinal for his sensitive stomach anyway, so we just fed him that as normal. I did worry all day though, but when we went to pick him up and the vets assistant carried him out all floppy and snoozy, he just wagged his tail, made his normal little puppy tired mewing noise and put his head in the crook of my shoulder Susan
  7. I took out Pet Insurance on both my Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and took out the highest cover with a $200 excess. They are each insuranced for around $12,000.00 per year. Failing that, I'd ask the vet for a payment plan and failing that would use my credit card. I knew I'd have to take insurance out on the boys, I spent $1000's buying the 2 of them, so knew that if something went wrong, I needed to be able to finance their treatment - that being said, I think I have spent more on toys and faffy stuff than I have on vets bills, so far  Susan
  8. I use sentinel spectrum chews. Luckily my Puppy is above 4kg now so him and the older boy are on the same. The older one is picky so I pop it in a piece of cheese :D
  9. I feed my two as I am dishing up my own dinner and we are all usually eating at the same time. This stops Porthos (my little one) from sitting there begging at us as he is too busy scoffing his own dinner.
  10. here is a pic of me with my two Susan
  11. I didn't have the first night screaming....as I had a 13 month old CKCS and they cosied up together (much to the older ones disgust). You can tell in this pic, that he was not overly fussed! His nose is wrinkled where he was growling as the pup had put his paw on him! Susan
  12. I haven't crate trained mine. I have set up his bed next to ours and put some MDF boarding along the edge so he cannot roam around the bedroom...so in a way I guess he is "crated" in at night. During the day, he roams the house (living areas only) if I am home and if not, has the laundry and tiled back part of the house. He is good about going on puppy pads, will cry at night if he needs to go out and during the day will scratch at the door or sit there waiting Susan
  13. I just had my pup desexed today...he's currently asleep behind me as I type Our vet charged $285 for de-sexing and he also (at extra charge of course) fixed an umbilical hernia and microchipped him at the same time. We didn't have a package....there wasn't an option for one....just 1 set price. I had an itemised bill and the amount of things on there....and the cost for them was over $600 but he discounted it all down to 1 price of $285.00 (not sure how that all works). Anyway, the vet knew we had private pet insurance so if he needed to treat him with anything outside of the regular desexing etc, then he knew we were covered. I now just have a sleepy, wobbly, sore lil fella who keeps coming up to me for a cuddle and his big Brother who is happy to have the little scamp home :D Susan
  14. Yeah I know how that goes....there is nothing "wrong" with ours either - he hasn't got an infection, worms, giardia, or any of those nasties. He is just "sensitive" to food and it's hard as when we take him to dog training once a week, we have to treat him with something besides his regular kibble. Hope yours feels better soon
  15. My Pup has had repeated stomach upsets and has semi soft to completely runny poops and eats grass when he has been bad. We've been back and forth to the vet and our vet is fantastic - hasn't charged us consult fees, given us free tins of Canine I/D, text messaged us a few days after appointments to check up on him etc. We have had fecal exams, tests, giardia, coccidia etc etc tests and now we're on a trial food wise. We had to come off Hills Science and we're on Royal Canine Intestinal, if that didn't work the vet said we could go hypoallergenic or high fibre - we have deducted that Porthos is sensitive to foods and if given the wrong treats (liver, chicken etc) he will get a dodgy stomach. Our vet has put him on probiotics for his water and he's had a course of scourban (which was great....). Touch wood - RC Intestinal seems to be working. Don't be frightened to be a regular at your vets if your dogs stomach is still bad. Hope he feels better soon! Oh...and boiled chicken and rice just made ours worse - i think he is sensitive to chicken. Susan
  16. It thundered here just after 4am the other morning just after we'd taken our two out for a potty break. They came up on the bed with us and the puppy whined each time it thunders but soon fell asleep wedged between my husband and me Susan
  17. I bathed my 17 month old this afternoon and we did it in the regular bath tub for the first time. I left some water in the bottem as his feet were yellow from sand and dirt. My husband talked to him whilst I sat on the edge of the bath (we have tiles at the end like a ledge) and bathed him with a shower spray attached to the taps. He tried to escape once and I had a stern "No". I just used postive praise and afterwards gave him a treat (the poor boy had had his feet clipped, been thoroughly brushed, combed and de-knotted). Of course all this was so he looks "posh" for his first dog training class tomorrow
  18. My 17 week old Pup has had a bad stomach pretty much the entire time we've had him (since 10 weeks). He had mucous, tinges of blood etc in his poops. He has had fecal testing done, etc etc. He did not have Giardia but we still treated with Drontal on he vets advice. He has now come off of a treatment of Scourban, Protexin and is on Royal Canin Intestinal. (he's been through Natural Balance - what he came from the breeders on) and Hills Puppy dry and I/D canned). Touch Wood - he seems ok on he RC howeve he's only been off scourban for 1 day. Chicken and Rice didn't work for mine as the chicken seemed to make matters worse. Anyway, if you feel you need to take yours to a vet, then do so, but diaoreah can be common and is not always a sign of something worse. Good Luck Susan
  19. personally I would report it. Especially if this dog has attacked dogs on lead as well. Imagine there were children walking with adults and a dog....if this dog nipped at them it could be a very different outcome altogether. Did the dog break your skin at all? I cannot tell from the picture. Are you up to date with tetanus? Just be sure to keep an eye on it. I hope you feel better soon. Basically, do what you feel is right...BUT if it were me...I'd be reporting it. Susan
  20. My puppy (and 16 month old) dog are inside during the day whilst I am at work. We have puppy pads down which the puppy uses. He goes on the pads 99.9% of the times, however if I am home then he goes outside and if the door is not open, will go to the door and bat it with his paw. He is 16 weeks old and has only had the odd accident inside. At night, he sleeps with us, either on the bed or on a dog bed kinda crated into an alcove next to our bed. He will wake us if he needs to go out. My pup certainly hasn't seemed confused by the pads being down sometimes and not others. I have seen him go to the laundry and look for the pads (when they've not been down) and then circle back round and run out the back door - so he's seemed to clue onto the fact that when the pads are not down, he cannot pee inside. Good luck - toilet training is not fun! Susan
  21. Dry or Canned or both? I am curious as to why? I have mine on Hills at the moment (changed about a month ago). My little one has a sensitive tummy. What dry food do you prefer? Susan
  22. sometimes my 16 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is not fussed about food either.... sometimes he'd rather sleep. I go to bed around 10 but some nights my husband is up till midnight. On those occasions, the dog has normally run out around 11-12 and scoffed his kibble down and then come back to bed. I wouldn't be alarmed. On the occasions mine hasn't eaten at night, he has fair hoovered the food down the next morning. Maybe offer yours some food in the morning if he doesn't eat tonight. Susan
  23. I have a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and I have the medium adult. They had weights on the packaging so I just bought applicable for his weight and age (my CKCS puppy has the puppy kong).
