I had mine on Chicken and Rice and even just rice and he still had the runs and was bad.... he even had small amounts of blood. We spent many a time at the vet trying different foods and being tested for all sorts. He had no bugs, gastro or giardia(?). He just had a sensitive tummy and a slight aversion to chicken. (he can tolerate small amounts). He is now on Royal Canin Intestinal dry which we purchase through the vet. We tried, Advance, Hills, etc but in the end Royal Canin intestinal is for him. The vet has told us to leave him on it (it is usually for short bursts when a Dogs stomach is real bad) but the vet is of the mind that it contains the nutrients he needs and is not giving him the runs - so why take him off it. We had to reduce the dosage due to his being a pup and he is a large boy (8 month Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) is 7.5kg when my 20 month old CKCS is 6.4kg but the vet wasn't concerned. I would say, if your dogs runs are not getting better that seeing a vet is for the best and don't give up - we spent many a sleepless night with a small pup needing to go out to the toilet several times a night. My childhood dream Dog was always the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. When I was born, Mum and Dad had owned Benny a Black and Tan for around 5 years. This was 1975. Mum would put my big Silver Cross (bouncy old fashioned pram) out in the sun (we lived in the UK) and I would snooze. Benny would sleep in the basket under the pram and if I cried would run into the house and bark at Mum to let her know I was awake. I used to crawl into his basket with him, would pull his ears and learnt to crawl pulling myself along behind him. If he had enough, he would squeeze through the bars of the kiddy gate and go sleep on the stairs to get away. Sadly he died when I was 13 months old. We had different Dogs growing up but Mum always wanted another CKCS. We got another Black and Tan (Sammy) when I was in my late teens. He made Mum very happy - she died from Cancer in 98 and he passed on from Mitral Valve Disease in 2001. He was around 6. I lived in the UK for 7 years and always wanted another CKCS, we finally moved back to Australia, bought our own house and found a breeder we liked. We now have 2 blenheims ' D'Artagnan (19 months) and Porthos (7 months). They are my dream dogs and I love them to pieces!!!! Susan

We got Medibank Private Gold Paws for our two. We got it because CKCS can have issues and we wanted to make sure we always had cover. Obviously we would need to pay for the treatment and then claim but we wanted that backing. I am with Medibank private so we got 10% off for that and then we got an additional 10% (I believe) for insuring a 2nd pet. We pay the 1st $200 excess so last nights $186 trip to the vet was not coverable, but Gold Paws does cover again certain regular care stuff each year like vaccinations etc. Within 2 months of getting it, our little one had to have a hernia removed whilst under for his desexing, we got $468 back. We pay $70 for the 2 per month so with just 1 claim we had recouped half our money. I know we could save it etc but that just doesn't happen. Our vet said last night that he offers payment plans, but realistically you are still paying for the treatment. If one of ours had a heart issue or needed surgery and it was $1000's, we would be covered. I guess I am predisposed to Private Insurance having had it for myself since I was a child. I am happy I got it for my two Susan

I have 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. D'Artagnan is 19 months old and we got him at 12 months and Porthos is 7 months and we've had him since 10 weeks. We got 2 because we didn't want 1 to be alone all day as we both work full time. Since getting Porthos, Tagnan has stopped being so anxious...he was wetting his own bed before. Now, they play, sleep and SLEEP It is hard work, they do get naughty together and copy each others bad habits. The naughtiest thing they have done is rip their beds to shreds...it was like a pile of snow when we got home and there were 2 dogs with tails wagging in amongst the beds innards. They also scratch at my walls near their bed. We are going to have to polyfill and repaint the wall (just waiting for warmer weather). I love having the 2 dogs. D'Artagnan is a nervous and shy dog but with little Porthos by his side he is much better Susan

Both of mine whine but the younger one whines more than the older one. He is very vocal

Mine do, but only when we're not looking at them....(we catch them out like it).

I have about 7 of them an haven't noticed the static.... I love how they can be thrown in the tumble dryer. I washed all 7 today and tumble dried them. They dry so well :rolleyes: Susan

This was our Pups first proper bone..... he hardly knew what to do with it, so fell asleep with it.

My pup (cavalier king charles spaniel) is 6 months old and doesn't have bones too often so we hadn't noticed it, but he growls (quite ferrally for a little fella) and lunges at us if we try and take the bone. We've got a bone for this weekend (he has a very sensitive tummy so doesn't get them often). so I am going to try the treat/swap on him and see if we can get the other bone off him. When he growls, I swear for a small thing...it's a little scary! I need to get him out of this behaviour as I don't want him being like this if my nieces or nephew took something off him although he is fine with toys, food and everything else.

oh goodness, mine has about 20+ and we are always buying more! He loves his cuddle toys especially a bright blue squishy cow and at the moment his newest and favourite is a bright blue plastic bone with weird nubby bristiles on the end. He chews it until he falls asleep with it. I love city farmers for toys - they have soooo many! Better Pets and Gardens have good ones too!

Mine hasn't humped us, (gosh that sentence just looks wrong) but he humps at our older male dog all the time. It is a form of dominance sometimes and is not a sexual thing - ours did it off and on from 10 weeks old (when we got him). We mentioned it to the vet and he said, it would just pass as he got older. He was desexed 3 weeks ago and I hadn't seen him do it till this morning when he jumped on my older dog and did it again.... the other dog put him in his place. I wouldn't worry about it, just be firm and say "No" and remove contact. Distraction is the easiest thing, so give him a toy or throw a ball and distract him from what he was doing. I am no expert but that worked with us. Susan

I took Porthos to Dog Training from around 12 weeks. He just graduated Puppy Training last weekend (he's now over 5 months old). There are around 30 pups in our class so they usually have 2 trainers and split into 2 groups - there are pups of all sizes and it can be abit unruly at times but inbetween training (sit, heel, halt, down being some of the training we've done) the pups mingle, we swap pups, someone brings in children to mingle around the pups and so on. Porthos thinks he's a big dog when in actual fact he is one of the smallest (barring a pug) there. He runs up to the big pups and jumps onto his hind legs to get to them. Of course, a few snap so he is now noticing this and can be a little fearful at times but this hasn't put him off. His little girlfriend dog is a American Bull Dog who is just beautiful and twice his size - they both go all gooey when they see eachother - it is so funny Maybe stick it out for another class and see how it goes and if it's not for you, try finding another training/puppy class to take your little one along to. I am no Pug expert but he looks lovely and healthy! I don't think he looks skinny....I think he looks just right. 8kg is a nice healthy weight, isn't it? My Older cavalier weighs 6.4kgs and I think he looks a little fat at times so have been paranoid about weighing/measuring his food periodically to make sure he stays as an optimum weight - but I think it's just his thick coat making him look big. My 20 week old pup is 5.5kgs+ (we was 5.5kg 2 weeks ago) so he's catching up quick. I think Ollie is gorgeous Susan

I agree.... let him sleep in your room. Our sleep on a dog bed next to our bed (and sometimes on our bed) We didn't crate train our Puppy (older dog was 12 months when we got him so was already toilet trained). We just bought a piece of mdf board from bunnings and blocked his exit so he is on a bed between our bed and the wall and has a piece boarding beside it safely fixed up so that he cannot get out. He wakes us in the night (normally by standing on his back legs and licking my husband) but he now sleeps mostly through the night. The dogs can hear our breathing (or snoring in my husbands case) so are reassured. Mind you, maybe they'd choose the laundry if they had the choice - My husband does snore LOUDLY! Susan

My 2 still make a noise and scratch at the door when we leave. They are in our laundry and back hall way (with all bedroom doors closed) so they have a decent run. They have 2 beds (trampoline) and soft squishy one, 2 water bowls, puppy pads and lots of toys which are rotated regularly. Our older boy is just as bad as the 20 week old....although they know our routine. In the mornings they come up onto our bed after their morning trip outside. We all snuggle together whilst hubby and I drink coffee. The boys then snooze on the bed with our fan heater on whilst we shower and get dressed. Once we are showered, they normally run in and out of the garden and the 20 week old gets breakfast. At 7.30 when we leave, we prepare their treats (normally a few scoobie snacks) as that is like crack to them - they LOVE them I take them through to the laundry where their tramp bed is and they both leap on it and sit, waiting for their scoobie snacks. I give them a pat, give them their treats and leave, shuttig the divider into the lounge. We then leave immediately. This morning they were particularly vocal and whining/yelping like they were being murdered. I got my hubby to back his car out, shut the garage door and turn off his engine so they thought we had gone. I am not kidding you, the minute the engine stopped they shut up! The alarm stopped beeping inside and all went quiet. Do you have a laundry area you can put your little fella? What treats are you leaving him with? Have you built a routine up of him associating you leaving with getting a treat... (sometimes my 2 have disappeared and are waiting on their bed sitting down before I have even got the treat out of the cupboard) Where does he sleep at night? Are you spending much time with him in the morning? Ours sleep in our bedroom and so from my alarm time (5.30) to when we leave at 7.30, they are with us the whole time. My older Cav loves barking or growling at the dogs on telly meanwhile he will be climbing on our laps and shaking! It doesn't have to be a barking dog either, it can be a dog on on mute! Makes it very hard to watch animal rescue!

Husband and I both work full time and we have 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels which are termed as Companion Dogs. My Uncle said we were selfish to get a dog if we were working full time.... we spoke to different breeders as we were intending to get 2 anyway....the breeders were fine and most commented that 2 was better than 1 so that they were not alone. When we are home, they are the focus of our attention and at night sleep in our room. I don't think they lack for anything! We love the little buggers dearly I have stayed home sick before and all they do is sleep.... like seriously..... 6 out of the 7-8 hrs we're gone - they sleep! Of course, now that I have D'Artagnan and Porthos .... I want an Aramis and Athos Susan

Mine sleep in my room too.... they have us wrapped around their little paws I wouldn't have it any other way Susan

I have only bathed mine 3 times and he is 5 months old. He still retains that warm fuzzy puppy smell but I just look at when his coat is looking a little dirty or feels like he needs a bath. In summer I am sure that will be more often. It takes so long for mine to dry, so for the most part I give them a good brushing and spray some grooming solution on them, which also smells lovely. I tried about 3 different shampoos but my fave is aloveen as it is so gentle and smells lovely Susan

I take both my dogs to Joondalup Dog Training which is in Ocean Reef on a Sunday at 9am. It is great! Very affordable. My 5.5month old just graduated puppy class last week and it about to start basic class :D Susan
