Check out Mr November!! I haven't done any Christmas shots with Kuma. Maybe this weekend... maybe... I have other photos that I have to get off my memory card over the weekend too. Just haven't had time! KTB: Other than a few days down the coast, we're home for the christmas break. Have to try and get my house into order - that's my holiday mission. Awesome photos everyone ETA: To answer Koala's question about Kuma and the Bakers Delight Goodies. He has developed a fondness for Bakers Delight and identifies the paper bags. It became a bit of a habit when we first moved in to walk up there on a Saturday morning and have coffee and bakers in the park up at Gungahlin. He gets the cheesy bits of the rolls or the bacon bits that fall off. If we happen to bring a Bakers bag home, he's immediately at your side giving you the "I'm so good" eyes. I ususally end up sharing my breakfast with him. He's too cute for words.

I'm resigned to the fact that I'm not going to catch up with this thread, so please forgive me! I miss the leisurely Christmases of Childhood, when I'd finish school and work at my dad's shop where I'd take photos of kiddies on Santa's knee, wrap Christmas presents for customers and have a generally festive time. Now, as an adult it is a mad panic to finish a mountain load of work, just so I can have some peace over the break. Oh Woe Is Me. We haven't put our tree up this year. How un-Festive is that? I have the shopping done, but not wrapped. I am sure that Kuma will devour any that are left in his sight. He wouldn't have the control that Elbie and Hoover obviously have. Ravenau - Astrid is adorable. I would like to smoosh her. Seriously cute. I'm sure she will grow up to be a lovely placid girl who will help change the minds of those ignorant to the breed (like your pet store assistant) Wizzle - interesting cravings, are they mixed together or individually (I would think that Avocado and Maltesers together would be weird ) I recall some cute puppy photos of Miss Ava the stunner, Little Maxie and of course the thread name-sake Elbie. KTB - So sorry to hear about Papa Koala. Ok, so hope everything else is ok in your collective worlds! bring on Christmas! * OOOH! Just forgot to share a funny story!! We went for a walk on Saturday morning, up the street to get coffee and visit bakers delight. Kuma is a huge fan of the products that come in the bakers delight brown bags. Particulary the cheese and bacon rolls. Anyhoo, it's about 3km each way. On the way back, I needed to fix my shoe so I told the OH to keep going and I'll catch up. I bend down to fix my shoe and when I look up OH and Kuma have stopped about 50 m head of me. Turns out that Kuma kept nudging OH on the thigh and when that didn't work, he basically tackled the OH to make him stop. He wouldn't move until I caught up. Naawwh, my little boy loves me

Advice On How To Handle Ignoring Behaviour
KumaAkita replied to lovemesideways's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah the little bastard.... Wouldn't you say that its still ignoring though, a known command (Come), basically a STFU to whatever I've said, I'm gonna make you chase me instead yayyy? Does it matter? Ken Ramirez (who I'm going to marry) Does your OH know??? I tried to get my boy inside last night, he just bolted and started doing zoomies around the yard. Then when he started barking a few hours later (in the dead of night) I tried to get him back inside, he did the same thing. Cheeky shit. So, when you get the solution to the proveribal finger, lemme know will ya?? -
Just a flyby post to say hi! I have been stupidly busy lately... Seems that I missed some excitement! Will catch up on everything soon. Promise.
-
Wizzle! I've been wondering how you are! Hope all's well... Now Miss G, Daddy's clothes aren't toys. Back away...

The Flyball ladies told us about Callaghan. We'll think about it. I could just see Kuma going "nah, f*(& it... I'm gunna sleep" We had a FreeCat too - called Nigel (as in Nigel No Friends) We think his original owners dumped him coz he stank... his farts could clear a room :D poor mite was lactose intollerant.
-
harumph. Just found out that my sister's neighbour moved out and left behind their Maremma. Who does that?? really... My sis took the poor dog in but is not sure she can keep it.
-
Oh Ravenau, she's beautiful. Can't wait to see more piccies! Yes, I know it would be funny to see Kuma do flyball... not sure that we'll do it tho! I can answer that one... with a resounding YES. We were told not to get an Akita if we were ever planning on having kids because the Akita will eat them. Shyeah Right. Anyone who has met Kuma knows he is not a vicious animal. I've met SWF that are more dangerous! There's a guy we meet on our walks most mornings, he's an elderly gentleman who is originally from Sri Lanka or that part of the world. He asks me every morning "does he bite??" whilst trying to run the other way. I understand this is a cultural thing, given that dogs carry rabies in that part of the world, but EVERY MORNING??? All he'll do is lick you to death. Hey KTB - hope Papa Koala is doin' ok. Let me know if you need anything I can see sun and blue sky from my window this morning, fingers crossed it stays this way for the remainder of the day. We could dry out a little! It's been astonishing. It must not have rained as much on the north side yesterday, Kuma was bone dry when we got home. Either that or he slept in his kennel all day (which wouldn't surprise me either!) Oh and Betsy - last time we were at the vet, Kuma french kissed the young vet. Most embarrasing. :D Hope James is ok Niques...

Yikes! That's double what you'd pay for a Whippet! OMG pf - you have soooo opened yourself up to some smart Dobe owner replying - yeah - but you get twice the dog ;) P.S. Sorry OP - you'll get used to this That's exactly what popped into my head too ;) ETA: Just a word of advice, don't make that the first question to the breeder! "Hi, I like the look of your dogs, how much are they?" will probably put your enquiry at the bottom of the pile. Explain who you are, what you can give a dog, etc. Not your life story, but just general information about you . Breeders will want to make sure their babies are going to good homes!

I think you'll find that is because this is a Pure Bred Dog Forum, not snobs but defenders of pure bred animals. Most people on here will hold issue with those who vehemently defend their "oodle" as a pure bred. This is not to say that there aren't many a fantastic cross breeds out there, but they are just that - cross breeds. The perpetuation of the myth that an oodle is worth $$ and is of a better standard than a pure bred is what this forum is trying to prevent. Yes, you should call your dog what it is - a maltese x poodle, or a poodle x or a maltese x. There is no such breed as a moodle.

At our Obedience end of year party the other week, the flyball people were really interested in Kuma and asking us if we'd want to get into it... funnily, the OH was keen! Saying he reckons Kuma would love it
-
Congrats - way to go Kyojin! oh, and bummer about the trainer... Dontcha just hate the lottery that is obedience instructors??!!

Hey folks, been another flat out week or so... Have some reading to do! Ravenau: sorry about your fish... Hmmm... Will catch up on everything else soon!

There was a guide dog on the plane the other day. Poor thing didn't like ascent or descent, but slept between his owners feet the rest of the way. I said to the chap that "he's a lovely dog", his response was "yeah, he does alright" I had to Qantas were really good with him too, owner got a special briefing, made sure the dog was ok... really gentle with supplying coffee so they didn't spill it on him. It warmed the heart

Oh Clastic - how bloody scary! I have a perpetual fear about Kuma and his collar. Part of me says "no collars at home" but then the devils advocate says "yeah, but what happens if he gets out and he never comes home?", then the other side says "yeah, but his tag has his name on it, so people will know what to call him and could easily steal him away"... I've now just come to the decision that it's collar on when we're not at home, collar off when we are. I'm stuck at home this morning because all the major roads around me are cut off, I can't make it to the other side of town for work. Damned shame that. I'm supposed to be "working" but I'm having technical difficulties. It's nice being able to snuggle up with my fluff buddy tho! He's adorable. He is sitting at my feet or trying to help me type. I'll head into work later (maybe ) Silly Ruby! Kuma's not destructive with his toys, but the tuffy toys we were given seem to be really good quality. They look like they may be able to withstand Ruby's hard play! I also got a different type of tuff toy for Ava for her birthday. Can't remember the brand, but will look it up, because it too felt really strong. Wuffles - poor Satch. I'd go pick him up if you wanted! It looks pretty clear over this way at the moment, so hopefully the storms just bugger off. I have to concur that Ava's bros are cute, but not nearly as adorable as Miss Ava. I love Vivi's stink face - "get that camera away for me..." KTB - any progress with elbie and hoover and the rain? I have trouble getting Kuma back inside... Anyhoo, have a great day folks. Fingers crossed that the rain eases ;)
-
I'm in exactly the same position, Spitz + Rain = Happy Muddy dogs! Only issue is I'm trying really hard to keep my lot clean for the show this weekend..... We got a bit of sun earlier today but the storm has hit now, ugh I wish it would go away for a few days! good luck with that!
-
Hey Wuffles... my sunburn has just started to peel! eeeeewwwhhh... How's yours going??
-
I have a water baby. He happily trots along in the rain, no drama. He's on house arrest with all this rain and when the OH got home last night he dashed straight outside and did a record breaking wee. Then decided it was an awesome time to do zoomies around our mudpile yard. He's gotten quite used to the towel and only tries to "reanimate" them occasionally. I've just heard thunder... here comes the promised storm!
-
Oh Thank Goodness... I thought there was a slim chance you'd be upset that I said your girl had a mo... ;) It's just adorable... Kuma only smells when it's time for a bath or when he's wet, other than that he's fairly odourless. I can't get an Aussie - I think Kuma would slobber the puppy's ear off! :p ;)
-
I'm sorry to hear that you weren't well! I had hoped that you were otherwise detained and not just unable to find us! Next time, eh? ;)
-
Beautiful photos of Ziggy! He looks like such a lovely dude. This weather is doing my head in - Kuma has been on house arrest for the last few days because he managed to work out how to get behind our chicken wire fence and dig at the trees. Turd. Have to fix it on the weekend... We still go out for our walks, rain or shine but I managed to get soooooo drenched yesterday! Hope you're feeling better lilli_star, and it was just a 24hr bug or something. hmmm, I hadn't read the thread originally, but understand what you're saying. I think that they're either picking on someone to make themselves feel better, or to prove that they've actually learned something and have risen to the status of Learned Expert. Ohh that's a great line... may have to steal that and pack it in my back of tricks :p Yep - vote away... the more the merrier! I love how in this photo she looks like she's got a mo. It's very Inspector Closueau... I'll have to take some more "body shots" for you then... Kuma is not what I'd call Athletic, but still quite lean.
-
I just had a look - man, it's going to be challenging... something to do at home and definitely not at work!
-
yay... Happy Boofday Miss Ava :D On the topic of MDTP and positive/negative training... I think that there needs to be an element of cause and effect, meaning that good behaviour = reward, bad behaviour = punishment. To me punishment doesn't need to be physical violence, but the expression of "I will not tolerate that behaviour". By way of example, when Kuma was younger he would get really rambunctious with us during play - bouncy/bitey/ouchie... The consequence was that he was removed from play (either put outside or in "time out"). Once he was calm he was rewarded with more play. Rinse and repeat. My extensive experience has led me to the realisation that negative isn't a rolled up newspaper to the snout, but the showing of displeasure. I've been keeping up with the daily journal noted here before - poor Dju, she means well but has a bit of a hard time making a decision on the right path FOR HER. Previous interactions have all been quite convivial (on the Spitz thread before moving to her solo act) and excellent advice had been given. I think some people have a limit to tolerating the same conversation over and over again. The number of threads that get closed/pounced on never ceases to amaze me. I feel that in times gone past, many of these discussions would have concluded with Pistols at Dawn. ooohh... aaaannnnnd.... Voting has commenced for the Spitz Calendar, if you're interested vote for me Think you can work out which piccies are mine There are some great photos on the thread, gunna be hard for me to pick my faves. Is it poor form to vote for myself??

Kuma has a black spot on his tongue, does that count? He won't retreive in public, only at home. He herded the cows at OH's Pop's Farm, but had no idea what to do with them next
