As far as I know if an animal is surrendered in Vic it can be PTS straight away
-
We buy all our treats from this place, they also have raw food. The prices on the website are more than what we pay and they have more products at their warehouse than what seems to be on the website. http://www.bmanimals.com.au/

Photo of the last dog just found eta - photo taken at the vet
-
Apparently he has a back leg injury, they have him on a lead and will be taking him to the vet
-
Third dog has been found and is injured. Just heard the fantastic news
-
One 10 year old senior has been released from the vet and is doing ok, there are still 2 at the vet receiving treatment praying they will pull through. The Wolfhound and staffy x have been found This one is still missing
-
These two dogs are still missing but they have been spotted by the police so they are alive. There are people out searching for them, the wolfy pup is in a critical condition at the vet receiving treatment. All the cats are headed to their respective rescues
-

There were 14 dogs all up, 6 from Mildura Pound the rest from Swan Hill and Sunraysia, 19 cats and kittens including a mum with 6 kittens and 20 guinea pigs. That's all of the animals on transport New photos of the crash scene, click to enlarge
-
There were 14 dogs on the transport not 5 as the newspaper link states. Not all of the dogs have been accounted for yet, the cats and guinea pigs were in the car not in the trailer so they are ok physically. Noel was in shock however he is fine physically. Kirislin, I hope your friends foster dogs are ok, there are dogs being treated at the local vet, hopefully they will pull through.

This was the transport run from Mildura and Swan Hill Pound to Melbourne this morning. It doesn't involve a transport company. So far all the cats and guinea pigs have been accounted for and seem to be ok, still waiting to hear how many dogs did not make it. Very sad situation all round.

Starting Over Dog Rescue
valbitz replied to Snout Girl's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I deal with Starting Over Dog Rescue quite a bit (they rescue dogs from Mildura Pound) and have found them to be a reputable and ethical rescue. If you are after any info feel free to send me a pm. Which dog is your friend interested in? -
Congratulations to all the winners
-
Steve, I tried to send you a PM but you can't receive any messages.
-
The girl in Mildura pound now has rescue with AMRAA :cheer: to everyone that helped and suggested various avenues to follow. Here's hoping that Sookie had a wonderful life ahead of her.
-
I'm still trying to arrange things so we can go, but I can't give 100% answer yet as we have car troubles as well
-
Hijack away trifecta, don't have a problem with it. I sent ABR some new photos, don't know if they are their page yet. Not having much luck with breeders but I will keep trying

There isn't any specific Akita rescue although there are some rescues that do take them from time to time so that is a little worrying. Any reason as to why they won't let her be adopted? I know I wasn't there but having a great dane jump on her and her growling wouldn't be something I would be overly concerned about especially if the great dane was also female as they are prone to not really liking the same sex. --Lhok One of the temporary Local Law Officers claims that 75% of the dog incidences he is called out for involve an Akita (I have my opinion on that but it won't be stated here), and that they are aggressive dogs. He claims they are dangerous and I agree they can be if they belong to the wrong owner, but then again so can almost any dog. He said his opinion of the breed was based on his experience with them. Originally he said the dog would only be released back to the owner, however he has let me try to find breed specific rescue for her. I doubt the owner will claim the dog which is why I am trying to find breed specific (or close to) rescue for her. I don't know about the girl's history but will try and find out. The volunteer that had her out yesterday said Sooky responded well to her but I'm still worried about her future.

Thank you everyone for your help, I really appreciate it. I have put up some better photos of her in the Mildura thread courtesy of one of the wonderful volunteers. The only other information I have so far is that she walks fine on lead and she was introduced to a Great Dane and was fine till the Dane jumped on her she let out a growl and was pulled up and she was fine after that. They will test her with another dog later in the week. I have been told she will only be allowed to go home, to an Akita rescue or maybe an Akita breeder that rescues they will not allow her to be adopted.

I've contacted the Akita Club and Arctic Breed rescue and they haven't got back to me but I'm hoping they have contacted the pound. I did hear back from Gisborne Kennels and unfortunately they can't help but have given me the name and number of a breeder in Broken Hill so they will be my next port of call. I'm hoping the volunteers will have time to do an assessment in the next couple of days as that could make it easier.
-
Thanks Aphra I'll contact them in the morning.
-
I had a look at the Akita Breed Club but there was nothing there about rescuing or rehoming that I saw. Will contact them anyway to see if they can help. Will also try Artic breed rescue Thanks for the help everyone

Does anyone know of an Akita rescue in Vic? Sooky has just come in to Mildura pound, she isn't on the thread yet. Hopefully the picture will enlarge if you click on it
