Hi everyone, I have been posting on here a fair bit lately and doing a lot of reading as I am training my dogs. I have noticed that some dog trainers offer these stay and train bootcamp style facilities. Has anyone ever tried that and does it work? Im guessing that the dog would revert back to old ways when it gets home and is out of the bootcamp style environment? Am I correct in assuming that? I dont plan on doing it myself but would be interested to know if anyone has tried it and had success?

Hi tiff-689, that sounds like a good idea. I currently walk my two with harnesses but the clip is on the back so i think it just makes it more comfortable for them to pull me. To be of any use, the lead must clip on the front. Back clipping harnesses just encourage pulling. Agreed, guaranteed way to train dogs to pull is to put them in a normal harness. Two dogs together in harnesses and all you need is a sled to complete the picture. Training them to walk nicely on a flat or martingale collar is a much better option. Yes. Sometimes i do feel like all i need is the sleigh and presents and i would be santa clause.

Thanks corvus. Thats how i feel. I am trying my hardest to train my dogs on my own as funds are a little tight for a trainer so if these tools can assist in the process i am comfortable with that.

Hi all, Am having trouble with my dogs pulling me when walking. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to rectify it? I have tried the penalty yard technique to little avail? Any other training suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi all, I am looking for a dog trainer in the Woolgoolga/Coffs harbour region. Can anyone recommend somebody? I am having a lot of trouble on walks with my dogs reacting to other dogs. Thank you

are you sure that is all she ate, if her belly is so full. You can make her vomit it up if you give her Lectric. do you know how long ago she ate it? Yes i am certain thats all she ate. It was the only thing down low enough in the pantry for her to eat. I was gone from 9.30am till 11am and caught her at the scene of the crime when i walked in the door. I would hate to know how much she would have eaten had i not come home. Her belly has started to make a loud gurgling noise so i think sick might not be far off.

I have seen my little schnauzer open the pantry on a couple of occasions and thought oh how clever. Today I went out for an hour and came home and not only had she opened the pantry, she had devoured half a kilo of milo I freaked out and rang the vet and he basically said she will be fine but there will be a lot of poo. None as yet but her belly is very big and she is very mopey. I couldnt imagine eating that much sweet stuff let alone her little belly being able to take it. Child locks on the pantry i think.

I live just north of Coffs Harbour and have removed multiple ticks from my 2 in the last couple of weeks. They are also on fortnightly dose of advantix but i think a twice daily check is the way to go also.

I have also used Furry kids at home when my two were puppies and they were fantastic. It was reassuring to have someone check in on our babies and send us a text and sometimes even a pic of them having a play. It really put my mind at ease.

Hello Just a bit of advice for your friends. We just recently started renting and have two dogs. I actually found that quite a few houses were willing to take pets but they do not actually make mention of it in the advertisments. So it does pay to ring the RE and enquire if you see a house in your price bracket. Thats how I found my rental. Some RE agents are rude to you that you ask but others are really helpful. We rent out our house in Brisbane and to be honest I would rather have tenants with pets than children because i see the damage my neices and nephews cause with toys, games etc. I hope they find something soon.

Hi, Can anyone recommend a groomer in the Coffs Harbour area? I do prefer mobile groomers but am willing to take them somewhere if needs be. My dogs are Schnauzers. Thanks in advance

Hello. So we got back from our walk this morning and were doing our routine tick check and we found one on my boys front leg. I removed it head and all. He seems fine. So is it ok just to monitor him or should we be doing something more???? Like i said he is acting very normal. Thanks Hello! We have just moved to an area of Australia which has a lot of ticks. I have previously been applying advantix to my dogs once a month but have just read the box and it says it only protects against paralysis ticks for 2 weeks. Just wondering what others do? Should i change to every 2 weeks? Also does anyone know of anything extra i can do to prevent them. I do check them everyday but was wondering if there is some natural remedies as well i could use to compliment the advantix? Cheers

Yes that is us who brought the new chairs and the dogs sit in them not us. But i am happy to report that since getting them there own beds yesterday they have not even looked sideways at my chairs. They seem to be loving there new beds. Sleeping in them right now actually. Our boy even slept in his last night - his decision. We have decided to allow them to sleep in our bed if they chose but have now set boundaries and are inviting them onto the bed on our terms. It only begun yesterday so we have a little way to go, but so far so good.

Moosepup i think we will probably be more upset than the dogs too. I went to the vet this morning and he thought my dog has anxiety issues and that by getting them off our bed and into there own would help. We are also having a few other issues with them which just stems from lack of leadership by us. I just read an article on the net that sleeping together doesnt affect the pack leadership relationship. What does everyone else think?

Hi everyone, Our 2 mini schnauzers have slept in our bed since they were puppies. We have known it is wrong the whole time but continued to do it. But since we are going to become the leader of our pack we know that they need to sleep in there own bed. So i went and purchased two dog beds this morning. How do i get them to sleep in them? I can get them to hop into them for a treat for a few seconds but then they jump out. HELP!!

Actually anything to do with food they are good with. Wait politely and do not bother us when we are at the table. I will work on some pics for you. Then you will really think we are crazy. lol.

Thanks ESCS - I think a behaviourist would be good too. We have taken them to obedience and spent the majority of lessons in the time out naughty corner. Hence why my hubby is a little reluctant to spend more money on trainers. That was about 12 months ago now so maybe they have grown up a bit more since then.

Hi Showdog, Both my minis are black and silver and very cute i might add. Some examples of how they get spoilt/get away with things: *If I am trying to brush there hair and they dont like it i just stop. *They sleep in our bed *We decided they couldnt sit on the lounge anymore so now we sit on the floor with them because. *When I take them walking now I try to avoid other people and dogs because I cant control them so think its easier just to change path. *They bring sticks inside and i tell them not to but give in and let them make a mess and i spend ages cleaning up. *We brought two beautiful tub chairs and now they sit on them and we sit elsewhere - usually on the step. (I could go on all day) Basically i try to discipline them and give up too easily. I know that is us who need the discipline. I used to have a jokey saying for them "you know the rules, there arent any" but as of today that is going to change. My main thing i would like to do is take them for a civilised non stressful walk everyday. They arent all bad, we do get a lot of enjoyment from them and they are smothered with love (prob another problem). We just need help. Thanks
