Anyone With Experience In Prednisolone Tablets?
Skruffy n Flea replied to donski's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
oh, your poor wee boy --- i hope the treatment he receives serves him well... i agree here... with all i'd read about pred, i'd developed an irrational fear of it, but with the right advice and following it to the letter, i found there was no basis for worry :) my boy developed a bacterial infection on his back feet and he was put on a 6-week course of abs along with an 8-week course of pred to counter the itching... his thirst increased, as did his appetite [which was wonderful because he's a lingerer], but i kept his portions and treats at the usual level --- i didn't notice any lethargy but i could tell when he was *feeling good* [a very cute lopsided *yoda* expression] but srsly, when using pred, you must wean your pet slowly, tapering the dose until your pet's system easily copes without it --- for byron, he was on a full tab [i don't recall off hand the mg level] for the first 5 or so days and then, he was given a half tab every day for a week, and then a half tab every 2nd day, and then a half tab every 3rd day and so on. that progression continued 'til 2 weeks beyond the completion of his abs at which time i stopped giving him pred [and his food lingering returned *sigh*] i found pred to be an effective drug for byron's needs at the time and i wish you the best of luck with your boy and his condition :) -
if this is your dog's first introduction to BH, then i do suggest a larger mix of their current with a small amount of BH and slowly, over several days, lessen the quantity of old and increase the quantity of BH --- standard rules i think with any change in diet when it comes to dogs :) when i run out of BH and have to substitute with another dry food my dogs experience GI upset [despite the slow intro] but thankfully, they transition really well back onto BH with little to no upset whatsoever and i don't even have to mix the substituted dry with the BH to reintroduce it!

Hi Skruffy & Flea, This topic was raised some time back & only Sherel can really answer it. The old bag only had 100% Australian Made on it too & I raised it with Sherel. It is 100% Oz made, produce of & owned, so maybe she feels that by saying it is 100% Oz made, that it covers the product from paddock to plate. I agree with you though, that something like 100% Australian Owned & made & 100 % product of Australia would be better, or just 100% product of Australia would probably cover it all. Even the trace elements are sourced from Australia if they are available, according to Sherel in an earlier post. hi sheena and thanks for the reply :) yeah, sherel and others had said that all ingredients were sourced locally [barring some exception regarding trace elements] so when i received my delivery, it bothered me that the packaging went as far as saying those 2 things but not saying from where the ingredients are sourced! i guess somewhere deep down i do know that it's all australian product, but it'd be worth it to have the packaging show that too. there's also that wee voice inside too that keeps asking have things changed in the world of black hawk!? Hi Skruffy & Flea, ... I have no idea about BH, but those terms have specific meanings and "Australian Made" is about the site of manufacture, it doesn't mean Australian product is used although it may be. This is from Wikipedia but it's a nice summary: The definition for Australian Made means that the product is substantially transformed in Australia and at least 50 per cent of the cost of production has been incurred in Australia. The definition used for Product of Australia requires that the product has all, or nearly all, of the manufacturing or processing carried out in Australia and that all of the products significant ingredients come from Australia. The definition for Australian Grown is that each significant ingredient has been grown in Australia and all or virtually all of the production processes have occurred in Australia. thanks for that diva :) i guess therefore that 100% australian made means that the product is wholly transformed in australia and so therefore 100% of the cost... as for the other two definitions, only sherel can say for certain --- it'd be a comfort to have both shown on the packaging in any event :) i had a similar thing happen only i was looking to replace food bowls; walked in, saw the kitties, backed out... your friend is best to contact her closest distributor and have it delivered to her door :)

i left a message for someone but they didn't get back to me --- it's near 2 weeks now and no reply! the new packaging: it says it's 'manufactured FOR blackhawk' and that it's '100% australian made' BUT NO WHERE does it tell me that it's from oz ingredients! that was a HUGE selling point for me! what's the go?

from what i've read, dogs require about 15% offal/muscle in their diet whereas cats need about that to 25%; i have 2 dogs and a cat so when i make up their raw mix [5kg p/month], i work on 20% of that being offal/muscle [to raw meat ratio]: 3 kg raw [human grade] meat; 400 gm chicken/turkey neck; 300 gm offal; and 300 gm muscle meat = 4kg offal and muscle should be from a mix of species [if possible]. to that i add about 900 gm of low glycemic veg with the balance [to 1 kg] being carrot. = 5 kg 30 serves for bob [the cat at 80gm per day] with 13 days per month [at 50 gm each per serve] for the dogs [the remaining 17 days comprise meals of fish and or chicken and or egg with a pumpkin/fruit mix]

What Tv Shows Does Your Dog Like To Watch.
Skruffy n Flea replied to pirate's topic in General Dog Discussion
neither of my 2 dogs nor my cat are in the least bit interested in any telly, choosing instead to nestle into their cushions or to share the lounge with me... BUT there have been the odd occasions when there's been a 'noise' on the telly that has resembled the sound [we think??!] of some animal at which time the dogs [or one at least and the other will follow in support] will bark in fright and leap to the floor and then immediately run, growly and barky, to the front door and then to the back door and then back to us, stopping to look at us in wonderment ... ears forward [wtf??!]... meanwhile, the cat's disappeared under the table [more likely because of the dogs]... we do what we can to contain these pesky outbursts because we have neighbours :) love dogs... -
leslie [stanbury], hello :) i've sent $$$ over the interwebz...

that's a shame... have you tried rescue remedy? or is there some prohibition as there might me in the use of performance enhancing drugs in sports? something bothered my wee girl this past weekend and her behaviour was remarkable --- we don't know what caused it and so we don't know how we should handle it. it wasn't in the ring for i don't have show dogs, but out of the blue and without any reason that we could identify, she exhibited a type of fear reaction and we had no explanation for it... i hope you can sort it out particularly for your boy's sake :)

i too am an advocate of a calendula tea soak :)

i've heard and read that if you can have your swimmer scamp about on lumpy landscape type fabric setup [ie, pup would need to use forelegs to pull itself up and over and back legs to push itself up and over] greatly assists. i've also heard and read that T touch massage would likely assist. i'm not a breeder nor have i had any experience with swimmers but when i first learned of the condition, i went looking to find out what it meant and how breeders handled it. much excellent information being offered in this thread and in those links --- good luck to your friend :) and welcome too to you :)

i hope you're able to get it sorted pebbles :) when my wee guy was on a course of ABs, his vet recommended a course of [human] probiotics AFTER completing the ABs.

god, such an awful thing to happen --- i have nothing to offer but my heartfelt sympathies...

i ordered 180g last night from all creatures in the uk --- sorry staffordfan, but the product and postage cost aud$48. it's a competitive world and i don't mind waiting the 7-10 days for it to arrive... it's comforting tho that if all creatures has an issue getting the product thru, there is someone local to whom we can turn --- thanks for making it happen :)

Hi Tara, you can drop in and buy Black Hawk from Hawkesbury Pet foods at Mulgrave which is near Windsor. The address is Unit 4/7 Wingate Road, Mulgrave Phone number 4587 7050. Really friendly place, they also stock other things like pigs ears, fresh meat and bones, green tripe etc. Just ask for Sandra and she will help you out with anything you need. cheers Jess. hi jess :) what price do they charge? i have an order placed with leslie but i've elected to pick it up from her not this weekend but next at erskine park but i'm really low! it's probably much of a muchness in any event, cuz for me to travel to EP or even to mulgrave, it will cost about the same as it would a courier --- i might just have leslie courier it... for information tho jess, it'd be handy to know what price hawkesbury pet foods charge. thanks :) leslie, i'll send you an email tmrw but i think i've left it too late for the weekend. can i supplement dog bh with cat bh for a few days!?? i have plenty of cat bh!

What Fruit And Veges Do Your Dogs Like
Skruffy n Flea replied to pirate's topic in General Dog Discussion
i swear both my dogs are in the top 2 percentile --- neither will take a worming chew like a firken treat and nor do they catch one in their mouth in just the slightest hope! bella happily chows down on a piece of carrot; byron will happily consume grated carrot. both will eat pulped and or cooked veg but only if i've mixed it with meat... both are tongue flickers as demonstrated when i offer them each a piece of banana... i wonder whether i over feed my dogs and so therefore they have no hankerings I think the thought of dogs just eating meat is very primal....dogs have access to every food under the sun now... back in the day im not so sure they had ready access to carrots and pears :) meat would be the only thing running around.... I think this thread confirms that dogs like fruits and veggies a lot more then we do!! Dr.Ian Billinghurst, who wrote "Give Your Dog A Bone", says that wild dogs would consume the stomach contents of their kills, thus getting vegetables. you took the words right out of my mouth :) -
hi leslie, i've just now sent you an email :)
