they say the younger, the better bounce back --- my girl, done at 6 months, was home the next day and apart from a few moments, she was fine... bob, my foster fail kitty, was done at 4 months --- same... good luck with riley
-
just in case... sheree? hi you need a photo site to host the pic --- like photobucket plenty folks here can help you out with that [i don't use it] cuz it seems the most popular... good luck and i hope you like loveme's mashup

we had our swf girl done dead on 6 months --- i later learned about and read up on dog desexing and how it can [or not] change your dog... if i'd known about growth and hormones and how desexing a dog can affect such things, i might have waited until she'd matured --- my vet convinced me that 6 months was the right time cuz we wouldn't wanna experience bella's first season... i ponder that tho and wonder and sometimes wish that i'd given her just that lil bit more time to mature... it's likely not a big deal to anyone else and i really don't think that it's that big of a deal to me, but sometimes ... i just wonder what's in store for her in later life or even if that's something that i even have to consider... curiously tho, i'm sold on the desex at maturity thing tho --- it just makes really good sense... i hope you get it right for your pooch

ours too!!! i reheat on defrost 1 minute at a time but the other night i did just 2 cubes of beef for like 30 secs and it practically cooked!!! the dogs loved it!!! *exasperated*

this is amazing!!! just this past week i've been wracking my brain trying to think of a better way of freezing my 3's raw brekkie meat! i use small sandwich bags, the ones that fold over and man, they are bad for leakage which totally irks me [particularly when we're talking offal]!!! so i too am on the lookout for an alternative --- i have very little freezer space so if i can find a plastic container that takes up just as little space but will still accommodate one meal for 3 mouths, i'd be home and hosed the beauty i think is that i won't have to transfer from a bag to a container in order to slightly heat their food --- i'll reheat straight from the fridge lovin' that idea! and then of course, there's the offal...

on an almost daily basis my 2 swfs get a small bone each, a few small chunks of chicken/turkey necks and every night following their evening meal, 2 pieces of a greenie [i cut my petite greenies into 6 pieces] --- they absolutely adore their greenie pieces and i only supervise their consumption of those two small pieces cuz i absolutely love watching them eat it srsly tho, i wouldn't be giving them a whole greenie in one go --- that might cause some issues! besides, both like to bury the buggers and that just defeats the 'tooth-cleaning' purpose... as for it being made in china; the next time you're looking at low-end and or high-end label clothing, check out its price tag and you'll see it too is made in china --- it's a fact i absolutely abhor...

thanks wizzle i actually put the rr in his food at night; about 4 drops and only at night and thanks for the link! i'll take a look at it over the weekend i also prefer the natural course but sas hit the nail on the proverbial --- i knew it, know it but i gotta research it. anything i give byron to settle him will only be a bandaid until he either settles himself or i get the help he needs thanks again wizzle, your post was a lot of help

Bad Week For Irressponisble Dog Owners
Skruffy n Flea replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
sorry dolers, i should have clarified it was more her flippant responses and attitude that annoyed me, not so much that she held that tiny lil pup at the end of a lead while it bounced around and around and around... -
thanks sas --- i knew i was doing the wrong thing by paying him that kind of attention but at 2:30 in the morning and by 4, i was desperate!

Bad Week For Irressponisble Dog Owners
Skruffy n Flea replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
it looks like it's been a bad week for most responsible dog owners! my own experience this past weekend was at an off leash park for small dogs wherein a middle aged lady had her 4 1/2 month old malt/shitzue [sp!?] on lead inside the park --- the poor lil fella was busting for a romp with the other little well behaved dogs but she had to keep it on lead cuz, as she put it 'i'd never catch it again'! we talked briefly and i asked her if she'd puppy schooled her dog and she answered 'oh yeah, i really should consider puppy school' --- i told her one of the things they teach you at puppy school is how to train your pup's recall. i was met with a blank stare! when i told her that she really should enrol the pup in puppy school and that her pup's vet could provide her with the information, she was unconvincing as to which or where the vet surgery was --- i almost nearly asked her if her pup was utd with its vacs, but i was too afraid to hear her response and by now i was so annoyed by this woman's attitude that i called my two flufflies away and took them for a walk around the park... -
howling wind storms aren't that common! byron, my rescue, is quite okay with storms; the lightening, thunder and rain, as well as fireworks... but what does one do to acquaint dogs with howling winds and its sound effects inside the home!??! on point: sydney last tuesday night/wednesday morning tolerated a loud, howling wind storm. at about 2:30 am i became aware that byron had become manic and for the next 2 and a half hours i was kept awake trying to settle him --- thankfully i wasn't expected to work on the wednesday! he shook, constantly --- he was on the bed and then off the bed --- during the times on the bed he would nuzzle bella, my other [very settled and sleeping] dog --- i ventured to acquaint byron with the sounds but he wouldn't follow me so i scooped him up in my arms --- i took him to various other rooms in the house, to windows that rattled, i opened windows so he could feel the wind, smell it, hear the sound, downstairs and outside in the sprinkling rain --- at some point i'd noted that my oh had moved into the pet-free second bedroom!!! by 4 am byron had started panting --- loud [i wondered when he would start to drool]! all my efforts tho were to no avail... downstairs at about 3:45 am, i rattled the cellophane wrapping of his favourite treat --- i noticed he immediately stopped shaking!!! he accepted the treat with gusto and after several more training sessions and by about 4:40 am, he'd stopped shaking entirely but i still couldn't settle his panting... i ventured back to bed several times during the night with byron joining me but still disturbing me and at about 5:15 when my OH awoke to get ready for work i thankfully fell asleep [byron i think settled also]. i've since started adding 2 or so drops of rescue remedy to byron's evening meal... so, what does one do to acquaint dogs with howling winds and its sound effects inside the home!??!

Puppy Vomitted 3 Hrs After Worming Tablet
Skruffy n Flea replied to Magstar's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
i'd be checking with a vet but i've had a dog refuse to finish the food i'd fed it that contained smashed up worming tabs and my vet told me to reworm him at his next meal... good luck -
Morbidly Obese 14kilo Malt
Skruffy n Flea replied to keetamouse's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
me too freundhund --- i have two maltese mixes and both are less than half keeta's malt!!! from my research a maltese should grow to at best 7 kilos and i agree with monitoring its weightloss regularly but to getting its weight down a quickly as possible --- today there are so many good quality weight loss and weight management foods for dogs that contain all the essential ingredients that there really isn't any risk to the dog's health of the weight is dropped at a reasonable pace... also from my research, an active dog should be fed 3 to 4% of its bodyweight and i'd take that to be its ideal body weight, so about 200 gms per day total split into two meals --- it's easy to fill the spaces in between those meals with low fat energy snacks during the weightloss program in order to keep him active and therefore burning more fat... his previous owner should be charged or at least cited for low end animal cruelty... the lil guy is lucky to have you come across him --- he at least now has a chance at a good healthy life good luck and please, keep us updated on his progress... -

yeah, hey look, i don't know what's going on here and i'm sure nobody wants anyone fighting their battles for them but from where i sit 'kris' isn't coming across as an ethical anything --- but she can sure add $600 x 12! her remark [per bonnie] that '... one got squashed, so now 6 each. Sooooo cute' seems a tad more motivated toward the $ side of the equation [pardon the pun] than the fact that 'one got squashed'! just sayin'
