  1. you use a nail grinder to trim your dog's nails? plse tell me, how does your dog cope with that? just asking cuz it costs me just under $20 per dog to get their nails clipped [the same for my kitty] and well, i know it's unpleasant for my dogs! if a grinder is kinder [*giggles* i'm a poet], i'd be willing to invest!
  2. thanks secretkei for those links; i looked up the kramar website also and got this from their home page:
  3. i use kramar products! but not the chicken on account that byron has a sensitivity, but i do like [well, the dogs do at least] their fish treat products come to think of it, i've not seen a kramar brand chicken variety, just the fish! did the chicken strips get caught in the throat or something?
  4. man, i am sooop remiss --- give bonnie and indy some skritches behind their ears for me
  5. i missed your post asal while i was writing mine --- all creatures great and small; very apt julz, you are going to have a W O N D E R F U L time convalescing
  6. julz, have you been thru some serious shit lately or what? srsly, give yourself a HUGE pat on the back for making it thru ALL THAT without needing to be certified! it looks like ms spotty has lined up some truly excellent entertainment too just what ya need, but leaving it 'til your cough has let up might be wise get some good well-deserved rest, snuggle up with your beloved dogs and maybe OH might need a wee bit of your time to help him get past his guilt
  7. julz certainly needs her guardian angel right now --- that's an awful lot for anyone to deal with... all my absolute best wishes julz, i hope you're holding up and feeling all our good thought vibrations bouncing all over the universe for you, your dogs and of course your family
  8. that's a tuff one superminty and i recommend you contact your local member; they'd have to realise a harsh reality if they failed to follow that up!
  9. that is byron his is in varying degrees tho dependent upon the level of his distraction --- when he's fully engaged, his backwards tail wags like crazy but it slows down with each ensuing effort i make to keep it wagging and so he gets distracted but he will still manage a weak wag even when he has no invested interest; he just likes to wag ;) this made me laugh so hard and given that it's lunchtime, i actually spat food! And this is what I love so much. That a funny long hairy thing can hold so much expression !! Humans should have them and then we could pick the happy people before we even meet them. just no sniffing of each other *pinches nose* if i had a tail, i'd be wagging it right now top thread! bella is like that when we come home from work! she's sooooo happy and even tho she's only got like 3" legs, she lowers herself even closer to the floor with her cute lil fuzzy butt and backwards tail fully invested from the waist down glad i'd finished eating my lunch
  10. i second that motion Hehe - I've already had a stern talk to Lottie telling her this is just short term We have two other dogs at our place (I share), but she just LOVES playing with little Ella - I love seeing Aussies play together!!!! Lottie puts up with SOOOO much (i'm very proud of her), Ella always comes running over to me with chunks of Lottie hair in her mouth (Its coming out very easily at the moment, hehe)
  11. We had to throw out their clam shell because they were pulling bits of plastic off and eating it but it doesn't stop them digging in the middle of the yard :D The main issue seems to be that our older boy tires of play quite quickly, so when he tries to slow down, the little one barks at him to continue. It's not in any particular part of the yard. ETA: We are hoping to get them a new clam shell as soon as they come out in the shops here that doesn't bode well for keeping them indoors either you may need to engage a behaviourist! have you checked with other neighbours to see whether your dog [or dogs] is/are barking excessively? it might be more a case of a less than tolerant neighbour for any kind of minor indiscretion!??! just a thought
  12. To make matters more complicated, ours don't play much when we are home, and they rarely bark. In fact, I don't think I've heard the little one (who is doing the play barking), actually bark once in the past few weeks :D We've videoed them the past few days and apart from 1 or two bouts of the play barking, each hour or so they will bark at someone going past the house or the neighbours out the front, but only for 5 seconds. I am considering keeping them inside during the day although who knows what kind of destruction we would come home to They already have frozen Kongs, rotated toys, an hour of exercise before work and both get obedience training. They are absolute angels while we are home. I'm stumped that does make it more difficult and i must admit that in our situation [or anyone's situation], if you're not home to hear the barking, then how can you employ the command!??! as for keeping them inside, it might work but put it on trial first --- it won't necessarily be a failsafe method tho as to the potential for destruction of personal property... i like persephone's digging pit idea tho! get one of those wading pools [clam shells] too if you don't already have one and fill it with water [or even the dirt] to give your dogs more options during the day!
  13. i have the same issue; bella and bryon are beautiful when they play fight, but i'm not certain that they do a lot of that during the day while we're at work [one neighbour however thinks that byron is nuts cuz he barks at a cat that climbs the tree :D that overhangs our fence from the back neighbours yard]... in any event and only very occasionally, bella will bark at byron while she bounces off his back to elicit play [byron just stands there, staring at me ] --- usually, they both just growl and that too can get very loud to offer some assistance tho and going by some training techniques offered in the tips and tricks forum, try teaching your barker to speak first and then, once that's mastered, teach and treat quiet... i'm close to halfway teaching bella to speak but she does recognise ssshhh that being our cue for quiet and that has been partially effective when she gets barky during play --- she's doesn't completely correlate the two concepts, but she appears to be getting it i hope that helps you some
  14. i cannot stop looking at those photos! absolutely gorgeous, both dogs :D you lucky duck! i need a rich uncle --- one that will fund for me property so i too can have an aussie [very much like ella and lottie] i once believed that if i were to have a bigger dog, it would be a border but since being introduced to the aussie... well, say no more have big fun with the two of them, but it seems to me that your 2nd dog isn't all that far off! why else would you have that lil talk with lottie this may tip you over the edge cuz you'll realise the overwhelming benefits to lottie having a doggie live in playmate
  15. oh dear :D julz, we are thinking of you, sending out to you with all our might all the positive vibes we have --- plse be strong
  16. Skruffy, what is this you are talking about......mouse rat catches?? Is so we want to know It is D day today,so thinking the worse ...hoping for the best hey these bizzos --- i hope that link works! pretty cheap [if it really does work] but i can't find a manufacturer's website so i can do some deep research --- if you locate the one depicted centrally in your home, it apparently vibrates the buggars out and away from your home i am sooooo hoping that julz is enjoying some happy news...
  17. Imagine how the poor owner is feeling, feeling like she has made poor decisions etc. Poor woman, I bet she is beside herself. i know --- i'm beside myself just thinking about what she and her OH are going thru and god only knows the poor dogs considering the misdirections! i just hope that by her silence today she's made progress locating a competent vet and bonnie's in better hands...
  18. i'm feeling a lil bit desperate for information --- julz, how's it going? maybe she's found herself a more competent vet! ya know, despite all the success stories, i'll be investigating those electrical pest contro devices, and damn the cost --- i have absolutely no desire to put my dogs, myself or my OH thru such a difficult and devastating touch and go scenario... i'm gutted just having read this stuff... putting out more good health and strength vibes julz --- for all of you
  19. Harley - they were hilarious today and one or two interesting developments. But I might leave it till tomorrow to write about it because I am REALLY tired. Suffice to say they kept a couple of visiting neighbours laughing and highly amused the whole time they were here, particularly Dylan - he really is funnier than a bucket of farts Thanks for asking! ;) hahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhaa ;) *slaps the floor* can't wait to hear all about it
  20. yup mostly i almost said something the day we dropped them off, but i figured nothing i can do about it now and when i picked 'em up, i thought, yup, it will be different next time --- the focus was on boarding cats but they allowed small dogs for a bit more per head ;) --- with the 3 of 'em tho we got a 10% discount all 3 have kept a very close eye on me, including bobbie! bella is still a tad sheepish but byron tho is the most concerned given that he's already experienced abandonment and he's progressed even further from out of his shell even to the point that i think he even missed bobbie we had a truly excellent reunion; mucho huggles and snuggles, special food and treats, games and command activities and LOTS of rolling around on the bed aaaahhhh, bliss i ;) dogs, and cats are pretty darned irresistable too ;)
  21. hey puggerup i did a google search and found this pdf file --- there's a pic description of a ckc's skeletal system on pg 5 witrh the sternum depicted as being somewhere in the vicinity of the top of stomach! i don't have a ckc so i really can't help otherwise... good luck tho ;)
