DOG i love this thread! there are some exceptional photographers on this forum, not to mention some hellish good looking dogs!!! i haven't had much time lately to even dress the tree but this weekend, i reckon i can give a fairly decent effort --- photos and hilarity may ensue

*sending plenty go home tess vibes* i have a dog that is fearful of bad weather: this arvo we had a hail storm, followed by a thunderous with lightening storm and he just begged me for comfort and protection good luck gg85 *passes out the minties* cuz it's time like these...

that's excellent news sherel --- i'd look at purchasing it in 5 kig bags but if it comes in 3 kigs, then so be it...
-
sherel, i'm about a week short of my promise to email you to say that i'm more than happy with the results i've still a ways to go with the 13.8 kig of artemis weight management but i want to keep up with a black hawk/artemis mix until my two are purely black hawk... srsly tho, i have 2 swfs --- i need a smaller bag than 20 kigs! i don't have the space and of course, i can't ensure its freshness in such large quantities over a time for what i know will be lengthy!!! i've looked again at your website and there's no mention of any weight less than 20 kigs! is there scope for smaller quantity purchases!?? thanks

that's funny stan... what's an eye boogie!?? or boggie!?? is it like crusty stuff in the inner corner of the eye? EFC

booboo, your goldie is gorgeous and i'm glad you've been able to get snowy's hot spots under control i have an itchie and it's been one of the biggest concerns for me since we adopted him just over 12 months ago --- luckily he's never developed a hot spot but i watch him closely and now with the humid weather i'm even more eagle-eyed... this thread has taught me some stuff and i'm ever so grateful for that good luck booboo and anyone else who has a dog that suffers hot spots...

hello what do you feed him? aloveen is a fave and it has a leave-in conditioner too, but the correct diet goes a long way to lessening the doggie smell

Heartworm Injections, Affordable Vet?
Skruffy n Flea replied to daina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
both my dogs were administered the heartworm injection in 2009 --- both had terrible reactions to it that lasted for several days and set byron up for months and months of skin irritation that bore absolutely no external evidence. it wasn't on good authority but a number of dog owners complained of the same longterm reaction in their dog and having heavily researched the effects of the heartworm injection, i was convinced that the development of his hellish itch was directly related to the injection. i don't believe in coincidences... his itchies started to settle in september this year --- one month short of a year since he was vaccinated... he still scratches but minimally and he's getting better by the day i've had them both on sentinel spectrum since mid-october and i'm a helluva lot happier with the result IMO, don't do the injection -
Judge's Behaviour On Video?
Skruffy n Flea replied to Brennan's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
all i can think to do after watching that is to dangle her face-first over some frikken edge!!! i don't know judging or showing or exhibiting BUT: i'd have given mine a treat LMFAO the first time i was watching the dog! of course, i went back for a 2nd look ;) that spoke volumes and i wonder too whether the dog lost points because of that! Have no doubt, the owner is probably sick with what has happened to her dog. It took less than a minute for the Judge to do that and the Judge is someone people should be able to trust with their dogs ETA I should clarify, A Judge is in a position of trust. if the exhibitor was inexperienced, then this belief would have held her back also... of course they are! as someone else highlighted, this coming from a country whose pple congregate en masse to enjoy the spectacle of bullfighting ;) contradiction much? -
Xmas Present For Your Dogs!
Skruffy n Flea replied to KnucklesDutchnUs's topic in General Dog Discussion
i had to giggle that an aussie site had it listed for twice the price and it costs a further $7.95 for postage! according to the fred flare site, it would have to weigh 7lbs for it to cost the same if bought from the aussie site --- still, the fred flare site postage is costly nah, thanks but i'll give it a miss ETA: that barely makes sense: what i'm saying is that to buy the product from fred flare, the item would have to weight 7lbs before it would cost as much as it would as buying it from the aussie site hope that helps EFS -

Reminder To Restrain Dogs In Cars
Skruffy n Flea replied to Austerra's topic in General Dog Discussion
we use the seat belt buckle [someone linked it back on pg 1 i think] and it clips onto the harness i feel very badly for the lady that lost her dog in such an horrific manner --- i hope she does a better job securing her next dog in the car... i don't know about the law; i just know that it gives me comfort knowing that it keep both my dogs safe when i'm driving around with 'em in the back seat --- frankly, i think there is more i can do to safeguard even further... rip lil doggie -
byron's the snorer/snorter between the dogs and when he gets going, i just sit there, watch and smile --- i rarely hear it tho when i'm sleeping neither of my dogs are that noisy tho; does that mean that they're uninspired!?!? that they're unexcited by the life i provide them!??! oh dear! i don't need to feel any more inadequate
-
it sounds pretty normal to me too both my dogs, curiously cuz they are so not related, squeak from their tummies! very hard to describe but, yeah, they 'pop' from their tummies when they make this sound and i know they're dreaming cuz of the bodily ticking and jerking
-
drama queens --- drama queens and liars, that make stuff up just to feel important cuz they've got sumfin good to gaggle about and the story gets bigger and bigger as the next one and the one after adds further crap until there is nowhere further to go with it and none of it can be substantiated anyway because the threads are so loose: yet, for a while, it added spice and excitement to their usual not-so-exciting drab everyday boring existence... you can thank disney and fairy tale endings for that wee f***up in your adult life i've been a target before, one ending in federal court charges, but this last one just proved to me that certain peeps just don't deserve to breathe the same air, and so they don't... over the years i've slowly ticked off boxes and i'm at a point in my life now where not many peeps deserve my trust or friendship... i no longer make friends easily and that's a fact of my life

man, this is truly the stuff of nightmares --- for me, this is akin to not being able to protect my child... i can only hope that i have the mind to firstly, stay calm, clear the area and lastly, the wherewithall to take hold of an aggressive dog's hind legs! there really has only been one occasion when i thought bella was in potential trouble; at the dog park and two leggie oddles thrice her height and double her length both intent on crowding her while their lazy handler sat on her ass on the opposite side of the park talking on her frikken phone! i shadowed them keeping a close eye and when bella made one tiny whimper, i went in with knees and feet to their necks and chest, and nails to their noses... their handler, no longer on the phone, just sat there, and if she had've been closer i might've slapped her, but at the very least i offered at volume some choice words interjected with colourful yet useful profanities and promptly left the frikken park flipping her a couple birdies as i walked thru the gates and again as i drove away... i had to stop the car a ways up the road just to calm myself down and to ensure bella wouldn't be further stressed because of my anger AND to make sure we both made it safely home... edited: grammer

Have I Committed The Ultimate Sin?
Skruffy n Flea replied to Cuchulain's topic in General Dog Discussion
dogs are pack animals and lately i've heard that having them sleep in the same place as you makes damn good sense... -
this is the stuff that feeds paranoia... i am paranoid... can someone PLEASE explain what and when to feed what and how much??? it's a helluva thing to own a dog BUT to own a dog and know very little to nothing about what it takes to keep them healthy and functioning is a king's list of golden... right now, i'm in the dark...

Pet Urine Odours In Carpets - How To Get Rid Of Them
Skruffy n Flea replied to bernym's topic in General Dog Discussion
nature's miracle it's the best product on the market --- only two dogs; one since a pup, the other a rescue and then a pound kitten AND nature's miracle worked miracles! since sept 2008, one bottle only with still some to go; that's a bargain right there... we got it from pet barn good luck! -
hello i've only read the first couple posts and well, has anyone, somewhere in the 3 pages [or more] i am yet to read, suggested short trips for the dog!?? anxiety in a dog easily brings about vomiting [i know this first hand as i'm sure most others do] and from the first few weeks since adopting bella, we knew she had an anxious disposition and so on sound advice we did 'short trip' training and she got past her anxiety being able to travel in excess of 2 hours without issue she was 12 weeks old when she came to live with us and she's now 2yrs 4mo... adding stock to the anxiety theory, in mid this past sept and driving 40 minutes from home, both our dogs were kenneled [first time] for 10 days --- i believe that caused bella anxiety because shortly after that time, we took a very brief dog holiday driving few hours north and she was sick 3 times on the way up and twice on the way home. i believe she equated that trip with that which found her alone with her bud byron in a cold dark kennel... just on 15 minute trips to the dog park had her looking somewhat forelorn --- 'short trip' training has again been employed and she's doing a helluva lot better
-
k, so vetadine doesn't seem to be appropriate for either of my two dogs BUT dermcare natural might be a goer
-
ditto! interesting! one i must investigate! i rarely bathe our dogs either and i'm interested in exploring the ordinary velvet laundry soap! an aunt of mine SWORE by it but for her own hair cuz of what the detergents in shampoo did to her scalp... again, i must explore vetadine and i will look into betadine scrub [but that sounds a tad too medicated for dealing with non-specific skin conditions... this piques my interest too

Clipping For Summer...
Skruffy n Flea replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
hello again and thanks everyone for your insights and advice! firstly, i wasn't griping about the cost; i was merely asking whether it was reasonable and so it would seem that it is secondly, let me clarify: i have two swfs and one cat [see my sig below]... we've had bella since she was 12 weeks old and she is now 2yrs 4mo and she's never been clipped [except for her face and butt] --- her fur just doesn't warrant it nor does it grow long. byron is 3yrs-ish and we've had him for just over 1yr and in that time he's never been clipped [except for his face and butt] --- his fur just doesn't warrant it nor does it grow very long. i brush all 3 weekly; the dogs with a rubber mit followed by a soft brush and then with a pin brush, lastly and every so often back brushing with a slicker --- i run the slicker over the cat... neither dog drops coat, both coats are fine altho bella's is wirey medium length while byron's is straight and a bit longer --- given the nature of their coats neither dog imo needs a regular clipping... this last trip was the 3rd time i've taken them this year and the plan is: every november [ready for the summer heat and humidity]: the dogs get clipped and all that entails, nails trimmed, bathed [i assume a hydro], blow dried and a spritz of doggy aromatics; and the cat gets bathed and her nails trimmed; and every feb, may and aug: the dogs get a face and butt trim, nails trimmed, a bath [i assume a hydro], a blow dry and a spritz of doggy aromatics; and the cat gets bathed and her nails trimmed. as for the itching, i put that down to the close shave both had along both sides of their belly, the butt end of their tails and of course down their respective cute lil tushies i no longer desire to do the grooming myself because on close inspection, there is NO WAY i could achieve the same result
