i taught bella from a young age that the sound and sight of fireworks was nothing to worry about --- to this day [2.5 years later] she remains unphased... not so much with byron [about 3 ish], my rescue --- we've had a number of incidences over the past year and a bit and despite my best efforts, he grows velcro at the merest sound like that of blustery wind accommanied by loud banging... i've used training techniques on the back patio in the midst of hails storms; completely open, during storms with slamming doors --- i've tried to desensitise him, exposing him to the elements, playing games with him and bella, putting him and her thru some paces but to no avail --- he pants and shakes, but at least now no salivation!!! bella is a charm! byron is an enigma bobbie, my torbie, was a tad upset tonight [she's 11 mo] but she seemed to cope!??! she's asleep right now, but byron is dangerously close to the wheels of this chair i'm sitting on despite my training him to rest on one of the two pillows near me --- bella is fast asleep on the pillow beneath the computer; the pillow to my left remains vacant...

Pork Pies Or Lies The General Public Tell Us
Skruffy n Flea replied to freundhund's topic in General Dog Discussion
*nods* apparently so in papua new guinea --- home/land owners bred and trained heeler pups extremely harshly, using locals as bait to instil hate and fear; it was brutal in the telling. i worked once with the son of a home/land owner and he recounted their dog's training over lunch one day... But of course because border collies only come in black and white so any other colour must be a cross or an Aussie (i was actually suprised this person even knew Aussies existed) ditto! I'm not sure. Just had the pleasure of meeting nephews "pitbull" puppy. The poor thing didn't look a day over 6 weeks old and was laying on the cement in front of a busy plaza, no leash, no collar, on it's side panting his poor little heart out (it's 36!! degreees here today!!). Never mind the risk of disease or running out into the carpark. That baby pup was in a state of distress if you ask me, could barely lift it's head (hopefully just exhausted but I don't think so). Then I get the death stare for telling him the pup is too young to be out and it's too hot. I give up. I think I'll just lock myself in the house and keep my mouth shut from now on. God, how do those that actually work with animals and no doubt deal with this stupidity day in day out hold their tongue. i'm really sorry to hear that --- reading this thread, i clicked to quote your initial post only to read on and find this further post by you... fwiw, i was going to suggest you direct that 16 yo child to educate himself by reading this site: have him click on 'dogs - dangerous breeds' in the list [that's custom's prohibited and restricted imports page] and then this page from the trading post, legally and duty bound to follow the letter of the law... i don't get into discussions with peeps about dogs and the only time that is likely to happen is at the off-leash park but i'm there to give my 2 some leg room and i prefer to keep an eye on 'em rather than stand around shooting the breeze with those folk that make it more a social event like the majority of others that frequent that park --- pisses me off when their oodle [it seems a lot of peeps own oodles in that neck of the woods] does a dump and they don't even notice... -
You and me both, Sam, you and me both And, I have never met a Rottweiler who doesn't absolutely love pulling a cart as much as we love seeing them do it - bloody attention seekers that they are I still remember being involved in a German festival as a young child (in Hahndorf, I think) - riding in a cart that was being pulled by our adult male, Ch Auslese Bacchus Here is a page on our website, which includes a photo of Bacchus and his cart - http://www.allerzeit-rottweilers.com/beginning.html i got nothing to say on the subject except that god i love the good looking rotti and there on that website and in your siggy --- absolutely gorgeous!!!

Old School Type Training
Skruffy n Flea replied to rastus_froggy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
to the OP [rastus_froggy is it!?!?] i reckon you could use nekhbet's words in your letter BUT i also read that you have received PMs and that they probably contained far better advice than anything i could suggest i struggle loose leash walking with my two: bella we've had since she was 12 weeks old turned 2 last july, did puppy school but then her training fell thru the cracks [for want of better terminology]... byron we adopted 14 months ago, he's about 3 or 4-ish and is an unknown entity and every layer we peel seems to reveal another issue --- atm he's telling me that he has an issue with larger dogs... in any event, i'm using far too many techniques and none of them are working, despite my best efforts and i'm a tad ashamed to say that if i had a paddock, i'd likely be called a paddock walker ;) it's hard to find a trainer, let alone one you can trust... -
i've heard back from kel $15 for 3kig [+ $10 postage]!?? HELL YEAH! i could drive to picton to pick it up but ya know what? it'd cost me more than $10 in petrol just getting outa the city...

neither of my two had gas either --- i was really happy with the transition and result i've run out of the sample and they're both back on pure artemis weight manangement supplemented with nature's gift biogestions 5 with no ill-effects :D i mixed bh with that mix so it's not so problematic reverting to that... sherel, the smaller packages, 3 or 5 kig, will they be available sooner than later!??! like, early in the new year or will be like late jan/early feb? no pressure :D
-
that just really shat me off

Illegal For Dogs To Wee On Nature Strip Now?
Skruffy n Flea replied to ChocoLabs Dad's topic in General Dog Discussion
both my dogs know the 'toilet' command and when we're out walking, i would not and could not in good conscience disallow and prevent them from reading and responding to the numerous notice boards that we come across --- i don't prevent either of my dogs doing what comes naturally to them because it IS what comes naturally to them. this activity also help their mental exercise and i won't stand in defiance of that... i'm fairly well known in my neighbourhood and my neighbours know that i take good care when walking my dogs --- no-one has EVER taken offence... i do not believe there could possibly be a defence for someone defying a dog to mark a grassy area --- imho it's against nature... -

i was wondering if you could provide me with a dog of similar style in this pic but with the longer legs. it's called a chidane. i want one to carry my handbag. i'm not fussy on colour but xmas this year features lilac :D understood! i know a place But if you get a dog that doesn't fart who will you be able to blame the smells on? says puppy_sniffer hahahahahahahahahaha :D now see, i can imagine a couple of these adorably wee pocket pets as truly awesome xmas tree decorations :D so, a couple with bright purple eyes and a coat tinged with lilac would be perfect --- will they come in a box set? i'd like 10 :D let's negotiate cuz i'm not looking to breed... 'skyouze ME BUT i have been waiting can ya work some magic to incorporate the specialty nuances of this lil number!?!? -
oops thanks for letting me know and i read now that snowy's hot spots have cleared up me too!

C5 Vaccines: Canigen Kc Versus Nobivac?
Skruffy n Flea replied to UltimatePup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
after a lengthy discussion with the vet about titre testing and my concerns regarding injections, i was happy for my two to receive a C3 [tri-annual] injection with the intra-nasal delivery for KC --- the vet was really informative and i was really happy with her explanations there were absolutely no ill-effects despite the vet saying that both might sneeze or snuffle following the spray but neither of them even flinched when it was delivered and for sure i thought, yeah, byron will definately sneeze but nup, not a peep --- i was suitably impressed! that was on the friday; the following monday the vet called me to enquire as to how my dogs were and i was happy to report that it was like nothing had even happened last year both my dogs suffered for several days following their C3 booster and heartworm shots and i have become convinced that it was the heartworm jab that caused their malaise --- it was horrible to watch. they are both now on sentinel spectrum... oh back on topic *giggles* - i'm happy with the intra-nasal; easy delivery and no complications :D -
apart from all the truly excellent advice given in this thread, i'm thinking the same here with mother moocher --- yap, you have a blockage in your thought process and until you can settle that issue, you won't get past it and your grief will be prolonged and dreadful, preventing any chance of you properly grieving for the loss of your beautiful dog... start with your doctor, they will after listening to your plight know a suitably qualified practitioner to help you compartmentalise so you can on one side commence the normal grieving process, and on the other, help you become stronger and able to think more clearly and objectively... you simply must get help yap; you're no use to anyone, much less yourself, while you are like this... take good care of you yap

And I'm sorry but I'm so tired of this argument. Just because a puppy buyer doesn't know any better about the right and wrong place to buy their pets (you gotta start somewhere!), doesn't mean their crossbred dog they bought with all the love in the world is going to end up in the pound. Forgive my jaundice but it has been earned. While not every cross bred dog ends up in the pound, neither are all of them bought "with all the love in the world" For a lot of these dogs are reprehensible crosses and by that I mean dogs with conflicting instincts. These pups are then bought by people with very little dog savvy, just good intentions. A recipe for disaster for all concerned. Very true, there can be very bad crosses that end up in the wrong hands and can be a recipe for disaster, that I agree with. But in this particular case, these are Maltese x Shih Tzu puppies, hardly a reason for them to end up in the pound just because someone back yard bred them, which was the basis of your original post. I far from advocate BYB, but I just see this blanket statement thrown about all the time about back yard bred dogs automatically going to end up in the pound regardless of their breed (crossbred or otherwise), and it just gets a little tiring to read i just wanna say here that quite a few of these swf crossbreeds do end up in the pound a matted mess because at the point of purchase there wasn't any advice or education provided about the upkeep and welfare of the dog's coat --- from what i understand, a lot of these poor ill-bred dogs are cast aside because they are too much work and not just because they had a really bad start in life! this is not what the whim purchaser or gift receiver signed on for... efs

thanks everyone for your replies i've got some paperwork to sift thru but what i located last night [well, in the wee small hours of this morning ] was byron's CAR printout so i KNOW he's at least on that register... i'll get some time over the weekend to sort this out and also to read your replies in greater depth ;)

all 3 of my pets are chipped but and this stemming from goldengirl85's tess going missing in brisbane, why when i plug in their chip numbers the result is that there is no entry? without success i used petaddress to check, and then i clicked each of those links provided on the results page without any luck either! what's happened and what do i gotta do to get them registered? god forbid should either of my dearly loved pets go missing ... !!! i know it's hellish late and i shouldn't even be online at this hour, but this has me perplexed and very much concerned! ta much for your advice
