  1. i'm very interested in trying the black hawk lite! is it available now?
  2. that's just beautiful yeah, i was thinking that the driver [and passenger] were probably more concerned about the damage that might have happened to their car had they hit the dog! that made me giggle OP, i'm glad it was a happy ending ;)
  3. several years ago we had a field mouse nest under our stairs --- bella went nuts cuz she could hear them but couldn't get to them. we baited them and i had to be extra vigilant watching carefully when the litter began to venture out of their cubby --- i managed to catch 6 as they each tried to escape but bella beat me to one and bolted out to the back yard; it must have been a funny sensation for her to have a furry thing tickle her tongue and she stopped and gave it up to me, in one piece and still alive that particular day was heart-breaking cuz those lil mices were the cutest --- the ones i managed to catch i kept [for the duration] in a small glass fishbowl and gave them wee nuggets of cheese; kind of like their final meal but the best meal evah!
  4. over jan/feb [possibly as far back as dec], i've rescued probably 15 or 16 [separately but sometimes two at a time] baby blue tongues from my back yard --- both my dogs alert me and bobbie, my cat, sits there and eyeballs them [she got too close to one and it latched on to her cheek, but thankfully no harm was done]
  5. i've been feeding my two on BH for several months and they both seem to be doing well on it --- i've cut back on the suggested quantity to help with some weight loss and that too has been successful i started my cat on BH about a month ago but i'm still feeding half/half advance/BH so i don't think i can comment on BH benefits just yet... neither of my dogs seem to have an issue with gas less, but good output too from both species
  6. excellent thread! excellent photos!!! fuzzy butts! groomed butts!
  7. christ almighty! i smoked all throughout my first cat's life and he lived 'til 19 years passing i think of renal failure one of my dogs [bella] leaves the general area when i apply deoderant and body spray --- that behaviour indicates to me that she finds it unpleasant. my other dog [byron] hangs around but he will sneeze and if bella returns to my side before the air clears, she will have a little cough... not saying that this compares to smoking but it's clear to me that what i do in my environment does have an effect on my dogs --- i now close the door to them when i apply these sprays. EFG
  8. sorry steve, it took longer than i thought but with all considerations, it's a no can do i'm afraid i really hope you find someone soon
  9. They have lived with a cat . The owner has the cat with her but cant have the dogs yet. excellent! i'll let you know ASAP
  10. sorry, i should've added --- i might be able to help [emphasis on might], given the short term required
  11. THAT is exceptionally brilliant!!! why, in all parts of sydney that i shop, did i NOT find that product available last friday!??! yup, it's off the list --- i'm now gunna try my hand at making pizza! it's not like i've not read these things before but for some reason, the way you've put it seems doable --- kind of like a weekly menu! i used to add ethical nutrients probiotics to their evening meal and yup, with everything else, it got really complicated so i stopped what i could and got back to close enuf to basics and started again --- it's the vit e component that has me mostly concerned BUT if i can get my hands on that melrose product, then my worries are over in that regard... thanks
  12. i am taking a long time to post replies because i am also researching some of the poster's suggestions
  13. thank you poodlefan for your advice --- oddly, i thought CLO contained omega 3 and i've now got a mamoth bottle of the stuff! cor blimey, the mistakes we make huh? i've not used it since reading your post in the wee small hours of saturday morning but i am very interested to know how much and how often i can feed it to my dogs; to not feed it more regularly than every alternate month isn't so clear to me... if what julesp [above] wrote about black hawk is true [and it makes good sense] and if i need to add omegas to my dogs' evening meals then i need to ensure that i am balancing that with vit e, and tomato paste [cuz i had it available and the dogs were already accustomed to it*] and from what i read, is one of the foods that is said to contain the highest form of vit e: *it also helps with tear staining i'll be glad to stop with the tomato paste and use instead sunflower oil and if i can get my head around it, go for balance over time... as for being able to buy fish oil with vit e; i've looked and living in sydney, you'd think i wouldn't have a problem and you're right, i don't, except that i can only get it [or can only find it available] in capsule form --- neither of my dogs eat them like treats and so i am left to pierce one or two or three each and that's messy business, tiresome, laborious, tedious and time-consuming... i give my dogs every few days a lamb rib or a pizzle stick each during the day as a treat --- as for the raw egg; i am working on it as i am with introducing sardines *puke* to their diets...
  14. hey jules i get your point about black hawk, and it makes sense... i add fish oil to their evening meals cuz both my dogs [one in particular] suffers from itchies that don't manifest in any particular circumstance [but heat and or humidity aggravate the situation] nor does it have any particular appearance on the skin [ie, no flakes, no spots, no redness, but maybe some flushing] and both appear to leave the occasional scratch mark on parts of the body --- i've been told [and have read] that fish oil [and acv] will help their immune system and skin barrier and so i'm doing what i can to work it into their diets and to have the greatest impact without detriment... my feeding routine is based on the same principle as yours, but i wish it were that simple
  15. thanks for your replies --- it's a lil late here and altho there's not a lot of info to digest, i need to think about your responses... i've also been out, and i've had a wee bit of alcohol, so...
  16. hello i have two small dogs; one 8 kg, the other about 7. in the morning, they each get just under a 1/4 cup of black hawk [contains emu oil providing omega 3, 6 and 9, and vit e supplement]. in the evening, each get: a heaped teaspoon of raw chicken or lamb [human grade heart smart]; a heaped teaspoon of [atm] chicken barf; 2 heaped teaspoons of raw pulped veg [spinach, celery, carrot, zucchini, alfalfa, pine nuts (high vit e source)]; a small teaspoon of low fat cottage cheese; a squirt of tomato paste (high vit e source); a teaspoon of acv; and a teaspoon of melrose cod liver oil. i remembered this thread from ages ago but i made a mistake the other day thinking that as long as the fish oil product contained vit a, all would be fine UNTIL i got home and read that i needed to balance fish oil with vit e! are the vit e sources i've described above [and also contained in the black hawk dry food] enuf to balance with the CLO?!? am i overdoing omega 3!?! i also have about a 1/3 bottle of melrose fish oil 18/12 that i'd like to use up. could i use a teaspoon of that too or substitute the CLO for the fish oil instead? or alternate!?? thanks for your input
  17. i was probably aware of you already but i hadn't been around for very long and so it was only yesterday that i got to know you --- you were so much like the rest but suddenly with such flourish and grand flair, you made sure to get the attention you craved... over the next few small hours, i held you as you shook, bathed you in cool water, walked you on soft grass, stroked your back, petted and kissed your beautiful head, yet not once did you moan... you had something to say and so late in the afternoon it became known that the next stage of your life would be without quality and the decision was made --- i took you for one last walk and then sat cradling you and stroking you, and as i gazed into your soulful eyes, i whispered to you and i promised you that it would all be better soon; and then it was time... i lost my resolve and i'm sorry i couldn't be stronger for you but you'd found and nestled into a piece of me and i don't know yet what to call that piece of me or even where it is in me, but for now, it's where i feel you... you were not mine but i cared for you and i cared about you and i hope i helped to make it different for you and gave you some of the joy you might have remembered from a much earlier time... i heard you were a gentleman and that it didn't take long and i'll be forever grateful for that --- i heard you received love and pats and kisses from those attending to you and that in those final moments, you knew you were loved... on my way home that day and with the radio blaring, every song was yours, but the one that really struck a chord with me was natalie imbruglia's and as if it was all coming from you and without repeating it all here, i'll just agree that i was a little late, you were already torn...now that you've reached the golden meadow, look out for my bud, thomas o'malley kat esq; he'll keep you in good company and if you don't mind waiting for me, i'd be honoured to escort you across the golden bridge when it comes my time... rip, dear boy --- your time here was not for naught, for you have made my world different and i promise now to make it different for those you shared space with...
  18. i'm a girl off the farm, had a family dog, cute lil bugger he was, a terrier type with a fox-like tail that just stuck straight up in the air, we called him froofie i didn't know dogs back then other than they worked, with my dad cleverly training them and then at night, tethering them to their respective kennels with a bowl full of food and another with water --- they worked all day and slept all night. but froofie was a free agent, day in day out and to be honest, i do not know how he spent his days and i'm sad about that... he took to our chickens first and when mum caught him, she took to him with the carcus of his spoils. of course he survived... one day, we noticed froofie wasn't looking right, walked a bit crookedly and then we found the bullet wound and a neighbour later reported having shot the little shit for attacking his chickens --- thanks to doc pemberton who lived up the road, froofie survived the gunshot but he never walked properly again. i remember looking on in awe when with my dad we came upon 2 dogs circling one of our milkers --- the cow was near dropping so we happened along in the nick of time. dad pulled the trigger once to distract the dogs and then, in his wisdom, he knew that he'd have a better chance of disposing of both dogs and so took aim because no self-respecting farmer with an ounce of experience would allow such animals to continue roaming... chickens, eggs, cows, milk, cream, butter, beef, sheep, wool, and at some point, pigs, was what put food on our table, kept us clothed and paid for our education so any threat to that had to be dealt with. everyone understood that because that is how it is. dad did his best with froofie who lived to a ripe old age in what became the vacant chook pen --- poetic, my mum used to say it was a good sized chook pen so froof didn't want for space and once dad retired, he'd put froof in the truck with him when he did his fence checks and neighbourhood runs, which was often
  19. jodie, i don't live too far from penrith and i certainly appreciate fenced dog park facilities so i'm glad that local rallying for a fenced dog park will soon come to fruition living at northmead, we take our 2 swfs to crestwood where part of a large park area has been fenced off to accommodate an off-leash area for small dogs and beside it the same for large dogs it works well, except for the occasional initial fence chasing *sigh* --- that's pretty short lived tho i hope it happens sooner than later cuz it's a godsend when you don't have the space available at home for your furkids to really stretch their legs
  20. good luck openarms --- horrible, Horrible, absolutely HORRIBLE having a sick dog particularly at this time of year! any news!??? i hope some of the other recommendations were less expensive and you were able to get her to a vet in her time of need... agree to PINNAGE!!! troy!??!
  21. i've seen and been able to acknowledge this behaviour over the past few months but the first occasion, about 12 or so months ago, it was how i'd read about it and i was absolutely fascinated by it... a 4-yo kelpie [rosie] and a very timid maltese from the same household, and bella, my dog, had tried to elicit some play with the timid maltese --- rosie and bella had played for a few minutes beforehand... some short time later the maltese became involved with bella's play with rosie and she kept a close eye but she seemed reasonably happy with bella and the maltese playing the way together... not long after that, another family with a mix of 3 small dogs, one too tiny so stayed held in the arms of it's owner, entered the park and the other two started mixing it up with bella and the maltese --- one of the new dogs continued playing but it became a tad too robust for rosie's liking and she 'herded' between her maltese and the one newcomer... it seemed to us that rosie had accepted bella into her pack because rosie herded between the newcomer and her also... my oh and i were aghast, having read about this only in the past few months and now, here we both were witnessing it firsthand with our own eyes --- it was magnificent!!! and beautiful... rosie shielded her playmate from what she perceived to be rough play and with bella and that small amount of time bella and her played, shielded her also from a dog that was becoming too robust! it is a kelpie trait to herd but this was episode was absolutely protection in it's purest form --- incredible and beautiful to watch...
  22. turn out all the lights, leave the telly on [and turn up the sound] but take stanley to a part of the house where he can hear and see the fireworks --- the music from the telly [from what i understand and actually believe] associated with the sound and sight helps the dog remain calm... just putting it out there :D good luck! it's very important how you handle your dog's introduction to fireworks --- it's the same with storms and any other sound or thing that disturbs and upsets your dog
