  1. I have heard that some dogs settle after desexing, so I wonder if he would have if he had been done earlier. Guess we will never know.... Of course there are also entire dogs who are well trained or have great temperaments.. this one wasn't one of those.
  2. I think the behaviourist visits the home.
  3. You say your children spend a lot of time at the home with the dog in question. You are saying the dog's behaviour has been reasonable enough for you to allow this. Does that mean the unpredictable behaviour....& the snapping at the owner's face...has only been recent? So it's only now you believe you have cause to worry? Just clarifying if there's been a marked change in the dog's behaviour. The behaviour is long standing. The children are not allowed to play with the dog and I ask my friend to put him outside when we come over. She does so because she is just afraid of what may happen as I am. She doesn't say.. oh he will be ok he's all bark no bite.. she says.. yes for sure, I don't trust him either. I don't think a muzzle would be good because he would need to wear it at home.. he needs to access food and water.
  4. I guess some owners of smaller breeds are to blame.. Chi's are one of the breeds I don't always like, because they show aggression and many of the owners do nothing about it. There are some Chi's which are trained well that I totally adore though.. sweet little munchkins they are. I really can't stand a feisty small breed that has never been pulled into line
  5. I have already stated, that just because I don't like a dog, doesn't mean I wish it gone. I worry about it biting again and I worry about my friends daughter and MY children who spend a lot of time there. I have also said, that if the rescue group doesn't want to take on a dog then they say no why keep bringing that up? It's better than her advertising the dog in the paper free to good home. At least that way the dog would be properly assessed and the right family chosen. If that's not what they would do, then so be it, she has to train this dog properly or PTS. I am hoping she can sort it he's issues. The dog would be around 3 years old now and was only recently desexed (a few months ago). I believe they left it too late and I have no idea why they waited so long, especially when he had obvious high levels of testosterone causing him to be very "angry". Now he has personality traits which a deep seeded and haven't been dealt with. I don't hold out much hope of rehabilitation.
  6. I'm not going to make my friend choose between us and the dog either. That would be bias. I can give advice and ask her to make sure her dog stays outside when we are over, which is what I do and I have a right to ask. I can express my fear to my friend.. I have known her longer than she has had the dog. I don't wish death upon a dog simply because I don't like it or am afraid of it.. this dog has bitten and will again if she doesn't do something about it. Anyway, I dislike an entire breed and if they were wiped off the face of the Earth I wouldn't miss them.. this doesn't mean I am going to set about culling them all. It also doesn't meant I am going to tell the owners of this breed that I hate their dogs either. If that were the case I would be happily expressing my distaste and naming the breed here  I have a Cavalier and I love the breed, but my MIL's Cavalier sh!ts me to tears. I don't put up with her crap behaviour when I am around either, but I don't want her PTS or anything.. I just want her to behave herself.
  7. I'll have to stop deleting all of my dogs "ugly" shots.
  8. My friend should make sure her dog doesn't show aggression towards me and my children and then I wouldn't tell her my dislike and concerns for her dog ;) I wouldn't harm a dog I dislike or decide it needs to be PTS just because I don't like it.
  9. I am a dog lover. Most dogs.. I'd say around 98% of them, I love. Even the naughty ones I usually have time for.. but occasionally I come across a dog I just don't like at all. Just like when certain people rub me the wrong way or I just have a "feeling" about them.. This doesn't make me a bad person does it? I'm not really expected to love every.single.dog I come across am I There is also a particular breed which I am not fond of and never have been. Sometimes I come across one in that breed which I do like, but normally when I see one I cringe Do any of you dog lovers dislike a dog or even a breed?
  10. He doesn't just bark.. he shows his teeth and growls and drools like he has rabies. People are scared of visiting because of him. I hope she finds the right behaviourist/trainer.
  11. Thanks Helen, I will give her this information. She is looking for any way to keep this dog alive and to keep everyone safe.
  12. Dogmad, I am not sure about going for walks, but they went away for a holiday and took him and he was doing alot of jumping off cliffs into the Murray River  he had a bit of a crowd cheering him on. At home though he is a completely different dog.. very on edge and very aggressive with showing his teeth and barking at people who come to the door.
  13. They know the breed and have people who want the breed. If they don't want to take a dog like that on then they say no.. simple. She is in the process of getting a behavioural assessment..
  14. Yep you are exactly right.. she blames herself. Like I said though.. he is aggressive and even though this was an accident, I have no doubt it would have happened to someone eventually. She uses a water pistol and has done for a few months, but he likes it.. he tries to catch the water in his mouth LOL I have told her to try citronella in future. On a side note.. she had the plastic surgery 2 weeks ago and you can hardly see a mark at all surgeons do a fantastic job these days.
  15. LOL huski, there are humans in this world who are aggressive and I call them worse than just nasty ;) I don't like the dog.. never have.
  16. Is that fair on the dog to live in a pen with a padlock for 10 or so years?
  17. She plans on keeping him outside..she doesn't trust him, but her daughter does go out there when Mums back is turned.
  18. Obviously if re-homing the JRT rescue group would match the dog to a family with no children and who could try to fix his issues.
  19. He really is a nasty little creature My friends are good dog owners.. they care for him well and they have had 2 JRT's previously who weren't aggressive at all. They just don't have the heart to PTS or rehome :/
  20. My friend had plastic surgery to repair a wound from her JRT biting her face. He was outside being his usual aggressive self and she went out to shut him up. When she picked him up, he "accidentally" bit her and she pulled away making the tooth rip through her flesh beneath her nose all the way through her top lip. Now, she shouldn't have gone behind him and picked him up and it was an accident, however, he is an aggressive dog. If he wasn't being aggressive and barking, snarling and growling at whatever it was he had seen, then the incident wouldn't have happened. People are scared to visit the house because of this little terror, but there is an 11 year old child living there who loves him. My friend can't keep her from going outside to play with him but she doesn't want to re-home him or PTS. I told her there is a JRT rescue group in Vic and they may be able to help get him into a home with people who know the breed well, but she has decided to try and get him trained herself. I worry the dog is going to take out a child's eye. I have told her daughter to never ever pick him up and to always bend down to pat him or pat her lap when sitting to get him to stand for a pat. Unfortunately there are going to be situations where other kids are going to be around this dog. I fear the worst. What would you do in this situation? I would PTS
  21. All charity's run on donations.. I see no different when it comes to rescue groups.
  22. Amstaff hands down.. but they have to stay puppies..never grow lol French bulldog British Bulldog Cavalier Bernese Mountain dog
