  1. that photo is so cute, I was Ollie in the laundry trough.
  2. Well ACA and the neighbours claim they re let out to roam.. sounds a bit fishy to me. Why would they bother?
  3. I tried to watch again with a serious face but couldn't So what breed do you think the dog was.. (not the boxer of course)? ETA- looks like a lab x Amstaff to me. I wonder which dog bit the woman, surely both didn't naw down on her tasty leg. Why would both be deemed dangerous? I think personally they were deemed dangerous simply because the council wanted the owners to keep them contained and were hoping that would do the trick. He kid said the only way the dogs can get out is if they are let out.. I can't see him letting them out just to harass the neighbours.. if so he would be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Obviously he is out with the dogs when they are let out. More to the point, we aren't seeing the entire story and aca just did a brilliant job at making the dog owners look like utter morons.
  4. I must look so immature laughing at something so serious hopefully I can find a video of it and post it so you can all see why I was laughing
  5. They are getting away with it.. it's the council's fault for enabling his stupidity.
  6. Being attacked by a dog is no laughing matter of course, I was more distracted by the look on his wife's face when he barked. It pretty much distracted me away from the whole point of the segment I do wish that kid would stop letting them out though.
  7. Did anyone else see the segment about the 2 dogs (PB and Boxer) who were deemed dangerous but are constantly out harassing people in the street? I have just laughed so much I have tears Did anyone else rewind and replay the guy barking next to his wife who couldn't keep a straight face? ;) :p ;) ;) ;) I got to go watch it again
  8. Awesome Jeanne ;) thanks for the link, I've bookmarked it. There's a storm on the way so no walk for today, but I'm going to try some other sorts of clicker training stuff.
  9. So true, because back when I was a kid, the pet shops sold crosses for $150 and you paid around $800 for a pure. Most people would imagine a pure would be up around the $2k mark now.
  10. I have 4 pet supply stores that don't sell dogs and 2 that do, all really close by. The only place I could find a clicker today was at one of the ones that does sell dogs and cats I'm still really angry at the no puppy farms signs. They'd stoop to any level to sell live stock. Surely their food, toys, collars, books and beds would bring in enough dosh?
  11. My fav pic is Sam and Portia on the couch nawwwww ♥
  12. great photo This is so exciting, I can't wait to teach them both cool tricks
  13. I was in a pet shop today buying a clicker and I saw a sign stating..our puppies don't come from puppy farms. So I asked if they come from breeders and was told yes.. so I said good they come with papers then yeh? No so they come from BYB's? The guy said it's illegal for a puppy shop to sell with papers. I said, unless there is documentation to say they are from registered breeders, then what you claim about them not coming from puppy farms, could be untrue. I said, that anyone who reads that notice and understands what a puppy farm is, would not buy a dog from your store, so you might as well remove it. He did however, when I asked about registered breeders, say that when someone comes asking for a pure breed, he has a breeder list and he refers on. I asked about Bichon Frise and sure enough, he wrote 2 numbers down on a card and they were legit. I was impressed. As far as the OP goes, I agree with everyone else, you contribute to the problem if you buy from a puppy shop.. it keeps them in business which is what we don't want. If you feel so bad seeing them in there.. don't go in there. Find pet supply shop which doesn't sell pets.
  14. ahhhh... it means you are getting a reward? I get it now. I did notice that as soon as I stopped walking she would stop and sit even without me using the clicker a couple of times.. and I gave her a treat, so perhaps I don't need the clicker at all anymore?
  15. Yep.. click means sit and look at me. Nothing exciting to report.. we went for a half hour walk and we didn't come across a single other person normally we walk past at least 4. Anyhoo, we discovered that Ollie won't walk (yes stops dead in his tracks) unless Miley is beside him or in front of him. We chose in front so I could control the situation without distractions. I did click and treat twice on the walk, just to make sure she hadn't forgotten. She stayed beside me the entire time with no pulling on the lead at all I need to test her to get an idea on if the she can remain controlled when there is another dog (besides Ollie) around. Hopefully tomorrow we will have some luck.
  16. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=193366 progress
  17. I've decided to journal Miley's progress. Miley is a 3 and a half year old Cavalier who joined my family around 6 months ago. Over the past few weeks it has become evident that she is not well trained when it comes to being walked on a lead. When another person or dog is walking passed, she barks and lunges. So after getting some tips from DOL members, I am trying to tarin her myself, in if that fails get a trainer out.. then get her into some classes. Today I bought a check collar, (I had been using a harness), a clicker, training treats and a positive attitude. First I took Miley out to the front yard to get used to the collar and the clicker. I walked around the garden bed and she quickly figured out, that pulling in another direction wasn't comfortable and staying next to me was the best idea. The clicker, I would press it once and give her a treat as soon as she looked at me. Within minutes she connected the sound of the clicker to looking at me and recieving a treat. We did that for a couple of minutes and then I decided to teach her to sit at the click. We walked around the garden bed a few times again, and this time when I pressed the clicker and she looked at me, I also said sit and waited for her to sit before giving her the treat. It took 3 times and she had it down pat my Miley is a genius. So after 2 more rounds of the garden bed we ventured out into the street. I walked up the path with her and she stayed by my side without pulling at all (a miracle in itself) and I pressed the clicker randomly and she would stop and sit instantly and look at me. I would give her a treat and praise and she would stay seated until I cued her to walk again We then headed off to the bush walk we go on daily. I was hoping to come across someone else, but fr the first time in a month we were the only ones there. When we got back to the street my neighbour got out of his car.. normally that prompts a lunge and a bark, but this time, I pressed the clicker and she sat and got a treat and stayed sitting while watching my neighbour walk to his from door. She just sat there and didn't move until I did she got a massive fuss from me and another treat for good measure. In an hour, we are going for another walk but with Ollie as well. She likes to walk right next to Ollie and push against him etc, while pulling ahead from me on her lead, so this time I am going to teach her to stay next to me during the entire walk. There should be other people with their dogs walking at that time too, so that will be the next challenge. I'll update after challenge 2
  18. Aidan you're a champ, I'm getting supplies today and spending the weekend training Miley. I'll let you know how we go.
  19. It would be sooo cool if you demonstrated this and upload to youtube :)
  20. I am going to try some methods I have read here, today on our walk and also organise a behaviorist to come next week. In regards to brachy breed.. I meant, similar problems as brachy breeds sorry for the confusion.
  21. Where do I buy a clicker from? I want to try clicker distraction for Miley
