We use Pro Plan - this is a premium however i do on occasion mix it with Bonnie and my kids seem to love it. Bonnie is about $38 for 20 kgs, I have one of my dogs that eats "Great Barko" which is about $30 for 22 Kgs. In my Opinion.... Dog food isnt about premiums, budgets, etc etc. It is what works for YOUR dogs. Some dogs dont do well on premium - my GR CH dog doesnt, he looks awful when i fed him Proplan, just didnt agree with his system, what works for him is cheap Barko. Good luck

Looks like we're off to south road to have a look. Unofrtunately we are in the northern suburbs aswell. Ahwell

HOwdy... thanks for replying... The BARF patties are a great idea... but when you are feeding 5 30 KG+ dogs, it makes it a Very expensive venture. RMB - Raw Meaty BOnes... chicken frames, neckes, turkey etc

I know this topic has probably been done to death, but we have decided to switch from Advance and give the BARF diet a trial with our dogs. After my reading/research I still have a few questions... Does anyone have a sample 7 or 14 day menu planned out that i can look at for idea's? Does anyone in Adelaide know a good supplier for the RMB? More questions to come.... LOL

Barko is seriously the ONLY dry food that keeps weight on my pointer... He eats like a horse, and every other dryfood i tried (cheapo to premium) just didnt hold the weight. Ryan is in great condition now, aevery so often i have to put him on a diet... how many pointer peopel can say that... LOL definately give it a go!

I think that for me, biting is the last straw. That being said it would depend on the reason for the dog biting - was it provoked? Is it biting out of fear? is it dog agressve(did the dog bite another dog) or is it just plain agreessive? To all of the above i would probably consider having a dog put down. If i didnt breed the said dog, I would contact the breeder and discuss options. I currently have a bitch at home, whom we got when she was 9 months old. (she is now 11 months) She has NEVER bitten anyone or even gone to snap, but she is a a frequent growler! It drives me crazy becasue most of the time she wags her tail when she does it! GRR GRR - However, if she was to EVER bite someone she would be out the door and on a plane back to her breeder. I have a house full of other dogs and small children, and i simply cant house a dog that I couldnt trust. As harsh as it sounds, thats the reality for us. cheers

I think this is a nature "cowlick" in the coat...I am sure that coating the dog will help, but I forget to mention that a Mars stripper may also help to flatten it out Julia

he he he its soooo cute, I had a cockers coat do this...called it "party hair days" best way to fix it for a show is to dampen down the coat..put a coat on him that is SATIN lined and leave on over night.. Works every time Julia

Tea tree oil is a great thing for skin problems. I make it up with an almond base oil..about 10 to 1 and it works wonders on my allergy "hot spot" girl. I have also found that when I bath her, rinsing her in chammomile tea takes the heat and redness out very quickly. Another product I have found great over the years, is "UDDER CREAM" hard to get these days, but I think that a few stock feed stores still have it. Its used for cracked and sore udders on dairy cows, and is a fish oil (cod liver oil I think)(smells icky) base. I lather it on my old dog, who gets summer itch. He looks a treat for a few days..dirt stuck to it etc etc.. but after a bath..problem is 100% better. always worth a try..and nothing in it that can cause any harm Julia

Although mine are immunised for kennel cough, I have had cases over the years. Oddly it always seems to be the ones that DONT go to shows that get it. I supposed that the ones that are out and about have built up more of a resistance than the retiree's. Benadryl is great, but an even cheaper and just as effective one is MEDALLION cough mixture. cheap at the supermarket and full of honey. Tastes a bit better. Good luck Julia

I haven't had a case of Demodetic mange in ages, but it was quite a problem when I was breeding Min Pins many years ago. It seemed to arrive around weaning time, obviously due to the drop in immune system and stress factors ( I think). We found that most puppies seems to get over this problem themselves just as quickly as any treatment that was given, unless a bacterial infection became a secondary problem. I may have the spelling wrong, as it was a long time ago, but I am sure the product used was called "Proban". I also remember my mother using an old remedy for this. She would cover the puppy in Coconut Oil. I have no idea how it worked, or what it did. but it certainly worked well. No nasty poisons in it, tasted OK if the puppy was so inclined.. and certainly did no harm. Julia

Hi Sandy. I had Emu meat given to me some years ago to feed the dogs, and they loved it. it is simular to feeding roo, very rich and low in fat, but also a VERY oily meat. oily meat=loads of poo!!!.. I found feeding it mixed with another meat to be great, just not on its own. Dogs love it. yummy VERY LARGE chicken!! Julia
