  1. I have a GSP...he goes ballistic when I come back from the letter box
  2. My Dal is the complete oposite. Today for instance Georgia didn't get out of bed except for a toilet break. And this is about as much as we've seen of her lately. I know she's under there somewhere. This is what my GSP looks like :-)
  3. Just did front paws. A tiny bit off each. Only started to fuss on last one, so left it at that. Was happy to sit next to clippers after and gave them a good sniff so hopeful wont fuss tomorrow.
  4. Can you explain bolded. I have never needed to cut any of my GSP's nails as they have always worn down on pavers, footpath etc but we have less of that now due to reno's and I've noticed that H's nails are much longer than usual. I've just bought some clippers and did a couple of tiny snips yesterday to get him used to it but I'm really worried about the quick seeing as they've never been cut. He's incredibly sensitive and I know if I hurt him I'll never get clippers near him again. His nails are black. The blood vessel/supply/quick grows as the nail grows. It is always slightly shorter than the nail length, but does continue to grow just as the nail does, it doesn't stop. Therefore when nails are allowed to grow, so does the blood vessel. If you want nails to be short you either have to cut/file small amounts often to encourage the vessel to retract in length by itself, which it will eventually (it will always grow slightly shorter than the nail) or cut the vessel which is very painful for the dog. We always try to avoid causing pain and cutting blood vessels, but if it occurs it is not the end of the world. This is why I prefer to always keep the nails short, avoiding having to retrain quicks. It can be a slow process. When nails are long it is not a simple process of just cutting them short and they are fixed. The damage has been done and it takes a significant amount of time and effort to get them short again... but definitely doable :) It takes a while to get the hang of clipping black nails if you haven't done it before, but just keep doing what you are doing, little bits at a time. I would do tiny bits daily. When they are getting short you will see how the nail make up changes, it looks different. It is darker and softer. Over time you will familiarise yourself with exactly how the nail looks when you are close to the quick. Taking teeny bits off once a month will not really achieve anything. The nail and quick grows faster than that in most cases. Take your time, be confident, make it enjoyable for your dog and get some assistance to hold him if he is wriggling too much. Good luck. :) excellent, thanks. Makes perfect sense. I'll shall do a little bit a day then.

  6. They have lots of different designs. on the website there is an tag that says "good dog" and they have some great fabrics. I am actually finding that the natural coloured mock lambswool isn't showing any hair at all and Hugo is the same colour as a dally (most people think he IS a dally!). I really like this colour/design http://www.gooddog.net.au/sorrento/
  7. Cozy 16 year old daughter too. She just curled up in it but jumped out when I tried to take a photo lol
  8. I got it direct from the Snooza website. Its cuddler in "natural mock lambswool" It feels devine. think I might curl up in it too!
  9. Bed delivered about 5 minutes ago. Think he approves?
  10. Can someone please recommend good clippers for a large dog with dark nails. I've never needed to do Hugo's but since the reno's they have become long...I think because there is less hard surface for him to run around on. I've tried a dremmel but he likened it to a vacuum so hid in another room.
  11. Is that a pup? Also mine aren't teeny Cresties - they are 9/10kg dogs :) I thought Murphy looked puppy like too. All day I've been telling Hugo he's getting a new bed. If he prefers it to the couch it will be great as he is forever changing the channel on the TV :-/
  12. well we must think alike as I got the mock lambwool too :D I've ordered it from Snooza's website (I hate going into shops) having said that seeing as you mentioned spoiltdog got me thinking I should go there and get someone to cut Hugo's nails, I'm too scared to do it and trying to use the dremel was like trying to get him to be comfortable next to the vacuum
  13. Thanks all. I've ordered the large (after comparing sizes of his current bed) cuddler in the natural mock wool. Can't wait to get it now!
  14. Did you get them in SA? or posted? What size did you get...and what fabric? (you have black and white dogs too....Hugo's white shows up on everything so not sure which fabric to get.
  15. Naw, all such beautiful sleeping furkids. Thanks for all your pics! Hmmm....I'm really leaning towards the cuddler now...I think Hugo would like that the best as its good for curling up and being snuggled in by the outer edges but then he can lie across the whole thing when he does the GSP upside down stretch out lie :D
  16. Thanks, that's what I was thinking, I like that you can also buy replacement covers etc.
  17. thanks. If you have a pic on FB I can look there?
  18. I want to get a snooza dog bed but I don't know which one to get. They all look so nice and comfy. I'm tossing up between the cuddler, jacks bed or buddy bed. Anyone got any of these and can share a pic of them with dogs insitu (expecially large dogs)
  19. Hugo will make it out on to the porch then will realise its raining, at which point he turns around and goes back to bed.
  20. I just gave H his monthy heartworm tablet (interceptor spectrum) and I always watch to make sure he eats it all, but I got distracted for a couple of seconds and it appears that he's lost the tablet in the loungeroom. He was sniffing madly but I've been unable to find it. He could have eaten it but he usually chews it for longer than I was distracted for. Should I give him another dose to be sure?
  21. I do too. I wish other cuz was coming back, or the rabbit with a million squeakers. I didn't get it because I was sure my boy would tear it within minutes. But now it's gone, I really want it! It must be a disease. Those are the exact 2 things I had in my order and paid for, and then was told I couldn't have it cos it sold out. I think Clean Run really needs to limit realistic purchase quantities per customer because at prices like this, they are being bought in wholesale quantities and lots of us buying a couple for private use are missing out I bought the skineeze rabbit. In less than a week its lost both its ears, one foot and most of the squeakers! Its going to have a bath and then be sewn up (but I'm not putting the squeakers back in :D )
