Book/website Recommendations
Staff'n'Toller replied to GSD FAN's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yes, Jenny Ireland should always have stocks as it's part of the core reading for the Delta Cert IV. Although she could be out right about now since we are in the week after the first Residential where everyone would have been picking up their orders. Pets in the making. Cheers, Mel. -

Nicole Wilde has two books out you can get them on Amazon. 'One on One' is a book focusing on privates and definitely has forms. 'So you want to be a Dog Trainer' is another she has written and I imagine it has forms too although I don't have a copy of that book. Mel. -

Recommendations For Canine Massage In Melbourne
Staff'n'Toller replied to superminty's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A few ppl here (myself included) use Dr Georgia Davis at Optimal Chiropractic. For massage I can personally recommend Mal Lynch she does massage and cranio-sacral therapy combined. Mel. -
Condition a bridge word instead. 'Yes' or 'Good' anything short really.

If you read the leaflets for the other NSAID's they all same much the same thing. Deramaxx is a new generation Cox 2 inhibitor which is specifically geared for Osteoarthritis and Orthopaedic surgery. Make sure she gives them to her dog with a decent amount of food. I assume this is a short dose to see how her dog goes? Mel.

Allergy Affecting The Ear Leather
Staff'n'Toller replied to TangerineDream's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This could be totally off track but what does he eat? Sometimes in dry food changes in batch quality will cause intermittent allergies. You could be catching an ear infection starting very early, I would consider using a cleaner twice weekly anyway. Resi-soothe is a good lotion to use every other day or so....sort of creates a protective barrier as well. If you feed him any beef I would stop for at least 2 months and see if that makes any difference. Oh and I'm sure you'd see them- but no stickfast fleast on the ears? Mel. -
What Poodle Mum said. If she is not sedated then that is good, your Vet Behaviourist is obviously using the correct dosage for weight. It's not a tranquiliser- it's not supposed to make them tired, google the drug name, they use it in humans too. Mel.

Ron makes really good stuff, and his shipping fees are generally quite good. The surface trainer is awesome, I have the step/ramp combo for puppy school. I found a kids tunnel at Safeway, but in puppy school obviously I hold it so it doesn't move, you might want to look at making some small sandbags for it so the pups don't roll it and get a fright whilst exploring. If the round of injections is Cartrophen then it is perfectly safe and well worth trying first off, there are no known side effects noted so far, it doesn't work for all dogs but then others get a huge amount of relief and can delay the need for use of NSAID's such as Metacam. If it were my dog I would be pushing for Xrays with the Vet, and if they don't want to do them, then find another Vet for a second opinion who is willing to do the Xrays. Mel.
-
All those questions will be answered by the Vet and she will need to see one to get Metacam anyway. Mel.

Not sure the OP is coming back anyway.......

Actually if the dog is doing it constantly, and they can't seem to interrupt the behaviour then it could be neurological. They are doing the right thing by starting at the Vet Clinic and ruling out organic causes. Mel.

What are you feeding him? As in type and brand. Mel.

Sorry to interrupt..but you should let your Vet Clinic know this story- they probably have no idea and likely would throw the brochures in the bin. Mel. -
You will find the cue word works better if you just say it once *as* your puppy goes to squat and your reward it after as they will pair the word with the action (muscle memory) of going to the toilet, and you won't have to wander around the garden repeating wee wee wee. Also block off carpet areas as others have said. When you go outside don't take the kids, they will just make the environment more exciting, be boring and have your pup on lead if you need to. Lastly, your pup is still settling in to your home and away from his littermates so expect accidents over the next couple of weeks. Mel.

Are you going in March? I know the tutors, I work with one who is awesome, and the other was my tutor for my course- and she's awesome too! You will have a great time. Mel.

Nail polish remover or eucalyptus oil may get the adhesive off...careful not to get any on the wound of course. Most Vet Clinics have a special adhesive removing liquid so they can do it for you. Mel.

Thanks Kim.

This place looks pretty good from the outside. I have been watching the building progress since they started some time ago. Very large. Not only do I want to use their pool, (as it will be closer to me than any others) but the sign out the front says it will be a 24 hour emergency facility as well. Nice to know, just in case. Cheers Julie I drive past it too on my way to Berwick...can't believe it is going to be a clinic I was thinking it was a primary production storage barn or something! Will the horses be swimming in there as well though? Or is it just for dog rehab etc? Mel.

Yep puppies who aren't totally toilet trained yet shouldn't have unsupervised access to bedrooms. Try to remember not to scold him too much though even if you do catch him going inside because all he will learn is that peeing in front of humans is dangerous and he'll go off somewhere else indoors to toilet. Mel.
