Help Each Other And Maybe Have Fun
Staff'n'Toller replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Have fun you two! Totally jealous of ya! My ratbag just needs to learn to heel between the pegs, sit still while I shoot and swim back in the same direction he entered the water! Ahhhhh the list goes on.... -
If she's hungry she'll learn how to eat the wings, it will be the kindest thing you ever do for her- tell your mum it will save her 400-500 every couple of years in dentistry as she gets older. My 20kg dog eats 2 barf patties and he is on the porky side so 1-1.5 patties should be fine for your dog, they are very bulky. As GayleK says feed flax seed oil preferably cold pressed (you can buy the vets all natural one online) and she shouldn't need an egg in the morning, if you are buying the billinghurst patties they already contain whole egg. 2 meals a day is fine! We actually recommend it for dogs that need to lose weight. Cheers, Mel.

Perhaps you should send him the guidelines from the WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines Group- maybe he'll actually take notice then. I have to agree with the others though- find another Vet- your animals, your choice!! He has every right to give his qualified opinion in a polite fashion, then it's your right to take it on but make your own decisions. Perhaps he was having a bad day Perhaps he has a country background and sees dogs as just working dogs who belong outside, or Perhaps he is more than a bit worried about the fact that overvaccinating is a trend that is on the out.... Either way I wouldn't pay a human doctor who can't explain things to me without losing their temper, same with a Vet. Cheers, Mel.

Ordinarily I would have LOVED to have offered to run him, I have some idea now, after going to the training day. But I'll be about as far away from Melbourne as you can get without leaving the Country on the 4th. Bugger!! Mel. -
Need Some Help With The Clicker
Staff'n'Toller replied to Lemonlime's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Tape your mouth shut!! :D :D In the words of Kerrie Haynes-Lovell..."trust the bridge". You probably don't need to say Yes as well, the click is very motivating in itself. You also don't need to recharge the clicker each time- your dog gets it. :D Just be careful when you are training new things that you help as much as possible, dogs offer all sorts of other behaviours when they are being free-shaped out of sheer confusion about what you want, but when they aren't being rewarded for behaviours they will start to get frustrated and shut down on you. I have seen quite a few females lift their legs when weeing, it traces back to marking behaviour. I have one girl here who has always done it. Mel. -

If I don't make it..........you'll know it's because I never came out of my room in the morning. Season 7 of the Gilmore Girls  -
If the people who PM'd have good feedback, it's worth posting here so it comes up on google searches for those looking for info about Keilor at a later date. Mel.

The cheapest way to treat demodex is with Dectomax injections. Advocate works if you start treating at the very beginning but many Vets and Specialists have treatment failures on it. Demodex mange mite takes hold on dogs with crappy immune systems so once you have been to the Vet, are treating the problem and have some negative scrapes then look at the food you're feeding, adding supplements and reducing chemicals i.e. spot-ons, flea rinses, Vaccinations and so-on. Don't worry Haven, Geordie's suprelorin implant has just run out and he's lost his brain now! Last night I had to tell him to go outside to pee 3 times before he actually did. -
Have you tried the CD cans? They are not supermarket quality mush so I'd be surprised if it gave him the runs. What brand of dry do you feed now? You can just feed it to one cat, but you'll need to change your feeding regime, unfortunately they may need to be trained to go from grazing cats to 'eat when your plates put down' cats but it is do-able. My friend has 4 cats and one on kidney diet. I imagine it will cost you a lot more in hospitalisation and treatment if he keeps getting a blocked ureter. What people don't realise is that as soon as there is overload of toxins in the kidneys caused by not being able to pee- bang your cat's dead, hence the reason why they need to be on IV fluids for a few days at a time. Mel. ETA: Perhaps it might be worth looking into the Royal Canin Neutered Male formula- it's Vet only but not prescription so it may just keep the crystals at a low enough level.

Don't quote me but I think you're looking at about 160.00.... -
Ahhhhh ok.... I don't know of any products specifically for dogs and fluoride poisoning is a consideration for humans so it would be in dogs too. If you are worried then it's best to see a Veterinary Dentist and they can assess the level of enamel loss and advise you further. The teeth might be better off being built up again artificially. Mel.

Why are your dogs losing enamel? Mel.

There certainly are intestinal cancers and tumours that can spread from the anal gland into the bowel wall. Hopefully an irritated bowl is all that is the problem but if it persists it is well worth getting a second opinion. Mel.
