Gruesome! (They always are ). Mel.

Sorry I read Bulldog as in British.

That's the only two options with that sort of problem- remove the offending teeth or reposition them. Have seen lots of Staffies and Malts and Shih-Tzu's with same problem. It has nothing to do with diet- it's caused by trying to fit the same amount of teeth in a Labrador or Kelpie with a nice elongated muzzle as a dog that is brachycephalic and short a good few inches- you get overcrowding. You know what will happen now don't ya....a dog will walk into my clinic tomorrow with an Aural Haematoma *cue scary music doodoodoodoo*.
-
Well...it's probably not causing much discomfort at this stage, it may stay the same or it may get bigger and end up involving the whole ear flap- hard to know. There are lots of blood vessels in the pinnae so the bigger it gets, the more stitches it needs, the more it costs and more difficult the recovery. Within the week should keep it as inexpensive as possible for you. Cheers, Mel.

Yah Aural Haematoma. Off to the Vet for drainage and suturing (probably needs a GA) before it gets any bigger! PS- Don't wait till Monday! Mel.

Totally agree with Lucknow and glad you found someone else. You're a paying customer you deserve to be treated that way. Mel. -
I have a copy but haven't gotten all of the way through just yet. It's good though, worth buying....pretty sure I would have gotten my copy from Jenny Ireland in SA yep I did- Fight- Pets in the making store. I also have Click to Calm by Emma Parsons but ashamed to say I've only flicked through it so far. Mel.

Seriously- go to SARC you couldn't be in better hands than Charles Kuntz. He is an excellent surgeon and has the people skills to boot. HD will show up now, and there's a couple of surgical options that need to be done before 12mths for best prognosis. Mel. -
I really like the new packaging. I couldn't stand trying to separate the old patties with a knife. I have just bought a heap of sistema click clack containers and 2 patties fit in each...unwrapped and re-packed them and threw them back in the freezer. Problem solved. Mel.

What sort of rest did the Vet suggest? I know when Gypsy my Stafford saw Bob Cavey then Wing Tip Wong with her ED at 6mths it was 6 weeks crate rest- and they couldn't even see any abnormalities on Xray at that stage. Mel. -

He is still growing isn't he? Could be something transient that you never see again and a combination of speed of growth + exercise. What does his diet consist of? Hock problems aren't particularly common and in my limited experience are often mistaken for knee or hip problems- perhaps the hocks are taking the force and compensating, hence why the hocks are painful. Is he any better on the NSAID's? I think often we can scare ourselves by doing too much reading on the net, if you are really worried now or he is no better when the NSAID's are stopped, get a referral to Charles Kuntz- if it's a hock problem chances are he's seen it- best to just go straight to the experts. Where are you?

You actually run a big risk if you forget a day or two on the daily tablets so unless you are going to be absolutely 110% vigilant and not forget then the safest option is monthly chews/tabs for you. Do a bit of googling on it- you have some time after all. We generally start monthly meds with pups coming into the clinic at 4mths (last puppy vaccination). Mel.

Went To Woofpurnay Amazing

Perhaps that nurse was unhappy at the place you both worked at previously, being bullied by a Vet or being treated badly by other nurses makes you act in ways you wouldn't normally act at work. I spent a large part of my training at a clinic that didn't have a very nice attitude to clients in general so I learnt that was the way. :D I couldn't go back and work there now. Veterinary Nursing also takes a certain level of maturity and when you're 18/20/22 you just don't have it yet...people change. Mel. -

Aggression Towards Our Other Dog
Staff'n'Toller replied to maxiblack's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would seriously consider that he is having a vaccine reaction- normal or otherwise- before jumping to any conclusions. When you have a flu vaccine yourself you can have flu like symptoms for a few days post vaccine and just feel a bit sorry for yourself. He could quite possibly be feeling unwell and sore at the injection site and she is annoying him. Some other more serious reaction may be brewing and could explain his behaviour. Give him a few days to recover first before taking any other action and then the action would be a Vet Behaviourist before even considering getting rid of him. Also if you are in the South, bring him in and keep him warm, getting cold in the garage may only make things worse for him. Mel. -
Sausage? Also chicken or turkey chunkers from safeway- you can get them in puppy chunkers. Number one thing though is that you're making the pup work for wayyyyy too long. Do five click/treat then abandon, come back later in the day, it shouldn't take many of those sessions to simply charge a clicker. He is shutting down- that's why he's disinterested and walking away. Mel.

I've had Geordie done at Stud Park Vet in Rowville. They do quite a few I believe and are happy to do so. As far as I know they only keep the 6mth in stock, but are willing to order the 12mth in. Mel.

Training Dog To Tolerate Other Dog
Staff'n'Toller replied to charmbug's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You have lots going on there, and you would definitely need the advice of a qualified professional in training but behaviour most importantly. You will probably find that not many people here can give you advise over the net without seeing your dogs.
