  1. She should be made to vomit them up if it was within a couple of hours. We had a client with a sheltie who died after eating a few of them. I think the dog has to be sensitive to them but it's worth ringing your Vet or emergency centre. Mel.
  2. Ok, question for the trainers and obedience handlers/competitors. How did you teach your dog to return around behind your back and what's your cue word? I'm interested to see how it's taught positively these days. Cheers, Mel.
  3. Would one funny canine make a big difference to his show career? I thought it was scissor bite they were looking for but I'm not familiar with the Sheltie standard. If you're super keen there should be a Veterinary Dental Specialist you can be referred to, in your State for Orthodontic work. There is definitely one here in Melb. If you want further info for the Melb guy feel free to PM. Mel.
  4. I've probably posted in all those walkydog threads. Got one, like it lots, after trying to run him on *lead only* for ET purposes, I think I'm too retarded to ride a bike and control a dog at the same time. Maybe next year.....and more practice. ETA: I did lots of C/T with him walking with me next to the bike, then with the walkydog not attached, then attached before we went riding.
  5. I have 2 dogs who look great on Royal Canin, (one is on prescription) but they both looked good on Hill's respective diets. I have another though who just looks better on barf, can't keep the weight on him even with RC. Mel.
  6. I'll repeat for you, I have shown a pup, then we did some showing as he was maturing, he knew how to sit from the get go and him sitting in the show ring was never a problem. I've never had push button dogs either. Get a trainer in, there are heaps in NSW you don't need to travel anywhere and they'll work on exactly what you need help on.
  7. For someone who needs help there's a lot of stuff you won't do. I have shown before, with a pup who knew how to sit and stand and when. Basic learning theory blows the 'not teaching sit' out of the water. Good luck! Mel.
  8. TOT is a sticky at the top of the training forum. NILIF on the www.k9deb.com site you need to read it, implement it, then place on your fridge. If you are worried about the sit/stand showring stuff then your stand position isn't strong enough because I taught my first dog to auto stand in obedience and he could still sit on command. Dogs are not stupid they can differentiate. He probably needs obedience more than the the showring right now, he's getting away with a stack of pushy behaviour that I wouldn't tolerate. He's also entire so he's going to keep on pushing the boundaries. If you don't want a monster in 6mths time you need to get onto it now. Bring your poor old girl inside at night and crate the young one so he can't be a shit. It's your responsibility to manage his behaviour so she is not constantly being harassed and pushed by him!! He also desperately needs to learn how to CHILL OUT a good trainer will teach you how to get it. Mel.
  9. Probably a third to half a chicken breast and half a cup of boiled rice? It really depends on how hungry he is and how big he is, usually when we do chick/rice it's for a convalescing dog so we use small amounts but since it is just the runs and he is not ill he could eat more. You may even need to up the rice if he seems ravenous but see how he goes with the above amounts. Advocate doesn't cover tapeworm so you should consider worming separately for that every 3-6mths. Tapeworm doesn't cause diahrroea though. You will be overdoing things with the worming but it's worth doing the drontal (give it with a meal) now and in 2 weeks before the next advocate. Be sure to weigh him at the Vets so you know you're in the right weight range each time with the drontal. If nothing works and he's still got the runs then it def warrants further investigation, doesn't sound normal for a pup. Mel.
  10. I would be really inclined to give your pup boiled chicken breast (no skin) and boiled rice for a number of days until everything is looking better. Then start to add orijen very slowly i.e. first few meals just 5 or 6 pieces of kibble and see how he goes. Giving him orijen straight off will probably just give you the same results (runny poo). I would also do drontal worming (from the Vet not the supermarket) 2 doses a fortnight apart in case it's Giardia. Mel.
  11. They gave me the Y front Tracking harness but the only difference I can see is that there is a D ring on the Tracking and a handle loop on the back of the Flyball one. :D The black stuff is neoprene - looks really comfy!
  12. dogsinmotion.com.au might be able to help you out, send them an email or phone them. :D Mel.
  13. I am bumping this to say that I went to Blackdog today to talk to them about a tracking harness for Geordie and to see if they thought it needed a D ring slightly off to the side. They suggested I try the new Y front harnesses that they are now producing for tracking and/or flyball as it's getting more and more demanding to make to size (although they are still happy to). This harness has LOADS of adjustment and has been out as a prototype for a while. It is now on the website to have a look at. I am going to try it out on the weekend, then ride Geordie up to Blackdog next week sometime and show them how it is going. Will report back here if anyone is interested. I think it could be exactly what I'm looking for. Mel.
  14. Debbie has quite a large area that she travels to, drop her a line and see.
  15. We usually remove one to two peach stones out of dogs each year, including some of their bowel in about half of the cases. They also can become a moving foreign body so often it takes a few days to work out the problem because some days the dog seems fine, other days is vomiting etc. If too much of the bowel is dead then it's bad news for the dog. If your dogs like to eat stone fruit and have free access then my best advice is get rid of the trees or have a floating kitty of $1500-2000 for surgery! Mel.
  16. I have used Debbie Calnon in Melb to bounce a few things off with one of my dogs and she was brilliant. We have referred a few clients from our clinic and found her to be very comprehensive, she is also very honest and there is nothing that she tells us that she hasn't already told the client. Was just good to know that with some behaviour aspects I have never dealt with before that I was doing the right things and nothing that would cause further problems etc etc. Mel.
  17. Oh ok lol. Yeah I find that converting to a smaller file wrecks my video quality too but I couldn't tell you how to fix it because I have no idea. Sorry.
  18. Are you clicking but not rewarding? I can't tell because of the quality.
  19. I thought you could click 'show results' without having to vote?? Mel.
  20. The Uni hospital here in Melbourne sent out a caution as apparently they were seeing a few pups from Puppy Pre-School with cheese blockages because they had been feed way too much for their size all in the one session. I don't give it much to puppies but I do use it as a mixture with my adult dogs, I use a soft cheese like Colby and it's cut very small. Mel.
  21. Hearing mixed reports about Orijen so I'm just curious to know. Thanks, Mel.
  22. Sometimes you may find that you need to do several years of allergy vaccines to have a good effect and may need to make slight changes to vaccines over time with other medical treatment in between if it gets very bad but it is worth persevering in a dog so young. Ptolomy on this board has a Toller that has been having very good results with both conventional and alternative therapies. Mel.
