  1. We taught rats to target for Cert IV C.A.S. When they felt like playing they were very good at it. The previous year we trained Pigs, they were awesome to work with.
  2. There are 2 layers of stitching for a castration closure, subcutaneous and cutaneous. So there are stitches under the stitches you can see.
  3. I asked the Fort Dodge (Protech) rep myself, she said it's got about 15% more in it than the others. I don't do KC currently, I bring plenty of it home on my clothes I figure to produce some nice natural immunity. The last dog to have it here was the one who actually had a current C5.
  4. I feed Eagle Pack holistic and Royal Canin. Can't seem to keep weight on my Retriever with EP so he is on RC. Mel.
  5. No probs, hopefully that's all it is. She could be squatting in the grass too low and is actually a little allergic to it at the moment, OR if her vulva is a bit inverted she is getting an irritation as you say when she toilets. The usual fix for that is to let them have a season so the vulva grows out a bit and then spey, but you probably would have noticed problems earlier if that was the case. I agree keep the hair trimmed for the moment. My Stafford first came up with cyst/blister type things before she was speyed at 2yrs and every now and then she will get another, they disappear of their own accord normally. Mel.
  6. We see it sometimes in young bitches and it's generally either a skin allergy causing pustules or hormonal. Nothing to worry about unless it continues.
  7. I don't think you need to refrain from posting Missymoo. There are always small outbreaks of Parvo in Vic, every summer, as others have said it's just a 'time of year' thing like gastro in humans. Nothing you can do about it. If people want to know they need only call a couple of the surrounding Vets to see if there have been any cases. It was very unfortunate that Hef caught it at Spring Fair.
  8. DAP spray, there was some for sale in the member marketplace.
  9. I'm so sorry for your loss, Staffords are such special little buggers. You should be very proud of your achievements. Monster was having fun with you until the end. Mel.
  10. My faves are the chuckit ultra balls, nice and light and most resemble a tennis ball.
  11. I buy: Chuckit Ultra you can buy them here, Vet Clinics and Pet Supplies should be able to order for you. Everlasting Fun Ball my dogs are wreckers but I haven't had one of these ruined yet, although some people on here say they have been wrecked. Other Cuz I haven't seen these available in Oz yet so I buy from Clean Run (they can't chew the feet off).
  12. I guess it starts wearing off 2ish weeks before because it seemed like 'to the day' everything was back to normal. I do believe though, that there are peaks and troughs with it because behaviour wise I noticed sometimes he was great and other times he was acting just like an entire male. Just IMO I think it's great if you are planning to breed but are struggling with activities and need to postpone things, or if you need to convince a male owner that their dog will be just the same desexed, however I would never consider it as a lifelong thing as I'm concerned about the effects on thyroid. Mel.
  13. Thyroid issues will prevent hair regrowth as usually would be expected. Perhaps she needs her levels measured to ensure the medication is within the therapeutic range. How old is she? It's extremely late down the track as far as the knee goes but I would be seeking out a K9 Physio and getting my butt there pronto. I'd be looking for a place with Underwater Teadmill or a rehab pool at the least. I got good results with my Staffy who has arthritis after a patella repair doing Physio and swimming. Mel.
  14. I did 3 x 6mths with my boy on co-ownership, we decided not to go ahead with breeding at this time so I had him neutered. He is a much easier dog to get along with now, even better than on the implant. You will know when the implant is wearing off, it's quite apparent. Mel.
  15. Could well do...although I found it took about 4-6weeks to take full effect.
  16. Does he still own his testicles? That's like a double whammy.
  17. What treats are you using? Does she eat once or twice a day? Is she BARF fed or dry? I am training weaves right now and Geordie has to give me one correct run for his dinner. Perhaps you could do some right sided work in the yard and jackpot with dinner or a cat/dog wet food tray (those little 100gm ones). Sit with the dinner dish and hand feed her for hand targets (Click, food) sits, drops and eventually targetting discs as has been mentioned. Keep going with it, my first 2 dogs were advanced obedience dogs before agility and it just takes a bit longer. Once you start to get agility brain you become very wary of classically conditioning the left side too much. Practice at home makes all the difference, if you can get a tunnel and a dogwalk or something and just work left and rights you will progress heaps faster. Mel.
  18. We had an ACD patient like that who ended up having her salivary glands removed - they were abnormal. Same symptoms! ETA: Needed to be removed by a specialist.
  19. Unfortunately there is not a large proportion around the country full stop. We ran a test in Melbourne a few months ago and passed 6 people, there are obviously more who have completed but I'm not sure on numbers. Doesn't help that it isn't a recognised title yet, it is a great test IMO for basic obedience and manners. Mel.
  20. If you are actually looking to do the CGC award with your dog, it would pay to ring or email the Delta national office to see who is or has run the test recently. Not all trainers have the facilities/staff/helpers etc etc to run the testing on a regular basis and many may run you through the training but send you off somewhere else to do the actual testing. You could try calling Desma she may know. Desma Mcleod Desma's Dog Training Private consultations, group classes and puppy classes. Phone: 0407 894 200 Email: [email protected] Mel.
  21. IME not many Vets know about Jean Dodds and if they do, they don't recognise that she has been an immunologist for many many years. If it were my dog, I'd do it - particularly with a young dog and particularly because Atopica is a strong drug and the decision to start is not to be entered into lightly. Mel.
  22. ADVANTIX is the best product around for stable flies, sandflies, blowfies and mozzies. Treat the dogs and you won't need to worry about it.
  23. I was speaking to the memberships officer at ADCV today and I'm #26 on the waiting list, so it's probably an April start, Feb if I'm lucky. Mel.
