Can We Please Use Your Hydrobath?!
Staff'n'Toller replied to Elfin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have put 2 dogs in there as well at the same time when wanting to do a rinse and blowdry after their swim at the pool. At Woofpurnay if you get a disc from the nurses at the desk you pay $10 but get 12 mins. I like the fact that they can come out with dry feet if you blow dry long enough- the flooring is the best I have used in any hydrobath. I also disinfect beforehand. At The Basin car wash (Pars Garage) they have transformed an old courtyard at the front of the service station that was closed off as louts used to hang around there. They now have 2 baths, shade sails, lights, a seating area and it's all fenced off! -
Can We Please Use Your Hydrobath?!
Staff'n'Toller replied to Elfin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use these no tub to fill it's all fresh water. There is a locations link on left side, my dogs like these the best as they can jump in and can see out the door. If you go to one of these out of business hrs you can probably put her in and out, feed her treats, don't bath her and go back a few times to repeat. If you don't return to the same place I doubt you'll have a problem though- she didn't get attacked *in* the bath. I agree report it- if the dog is aggressive it shouldn't be in the shop. -
What brand of Vaccine do your dogs get right now willis08???

The 3 year is more expensive per vial so therein lies the charge. Thanks for the info Stormie it is always great to hear it from the source. I have heard through Fort Dodge that one particular clinic has overhauled their protocol and let all their clients know:- What they are doing is charging the same price every year whether that is triennial + KC combo or just a KC booster. So over three years it works out the same than making the triennial quite exy and charging the KC combo's at a cheaper rate. I had Geordie done with a triennial quite a few months ago and other than needing to laminate his certificate I don't envisage any problems with clubs. I don't vacc for kennel cough due to the adjuvant and would debate any club to the death about it's requirement anyway since my dogs are exposed to enough kennel cough virus throughout the year from my work clothes to spark memory cells IMO. I think it will come down to consumer knowledge and unfortunately whether owners care enough. I don't mean that in a nasty way, I just mean that there will be a proportion of the population who aren't interested in learning further about what they are putting into their dogs so opt for the yearly vacc's out of habit. Where I work we are also in an interesting time of change in regards to the ages of people living and moving into the area, we have a huge amount of seniors and then a good amount of young people just starting out in their new homes with their new pets. The seniors for the most part (I am making a generalisation here please take it with a grain of salt) do not like change/are scared of change/do not understand the changes. So for those reasons will stay with the original protocol. For anyone who is in metro Melbourne and is having trouble, we will do titre testing at my clinic, I cannot remember the charge so you would have to contact me via PM if seriously interested. We also stock triennials if people are having trouble sourcing them.

Stuck Pee Pee! Help Needed!
Staff'n'Toller replied to Teebs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yeah if you can cover it and 'keep the edges wet' then there is more chance it will heal with re-stapling or a couple of sutures. Bull breeds eh?! -

Have you got any steri strips for where the staples came out? I'm assuming it's a skin wound....? -
I have some Asics with grippy soles that I bought last year on sale, they are a size to big but I thought they would be alright. Now that I've tripped a couple of times in my regular size I'm not even gonna try with the extra shoe length. I'm about to put them up in buy/swap/sell.

I use Georgia Davis being on the East side. I can certainly recommend her. -
The safest thing would be to wait until an Australian made Vaccine gets a 3yr claim.
-
I was told by the Fort Dodge rep there is about 15% more in it..I'm assuming the measurement being as Staranais describes. Fort Dodge and Intervet are the only brands to have the claim at this stage as far as I know and only for their C3s but I'm sure the others have their claims in to be approved. There are a few strains of Parvo and some brands appear to cover more or newer strains than others. I've had one of mine done with the 3yr to no ill-effect so far and his breed is notorious for Vaccine reactions or immune mediated illness. When you think about 15% more it is essentially the same Vacc just repackaged. We stock it but no-one has asked for it so far. I'm sure Stormy can come up with more than my vague description after making a few calls. Mel.

Can Dogs Get Hemorrhoids?
Staff'n'Toller replied to ruthless's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You should really have it seen to before you start with the hemorrhoid treatment. Anal gland abscesses and anal gland tumours are the first things I would think of and anal gland tumours need to be seen to ASAP. Is he neutered? Prostate enlargement could also be a problem and you may in fact need to reduce the amount of psyllium or get rid of it to make the poo smaller and easier to pass. -
Vet Medication Charges

Vet Medication Charges
Staff'n'Toller replied to poodle3081's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't call a markup a hidden cost poodle3801, you pay the GST which legally has to be passed on, markup and a dispensing fee. You just don't have the benefit of the PBS for animals- luckily when you have a script made up for yourself the government is paying a contribution for you!! It's obvious you've never had to pay for a medication not on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme- otherwise you'd understand. We literally have to keep tens of thousands of dollars worth of drugs on the shelf, and we do have shrinkage- that is drugs that go past their expiry date and need to be thrown out- no-one reimburses us for that! -
Sounds like a correct price for metro Melbourne. As with all things, you get what you pay for. I'm guessing someone is funding your retirement, yes?

Awesome licence might be thru by then but I will enter anyway. I came up to Ancona to watch Novice on Sunday, saw ya in your truck but I had to leave at lunch...and you All Age guys had all moved on by that stage.
-
Go Yo! If the police will co-operate with my gun licence I was going to enter under you in August.

Scooters? For Running Dogs
Staff'n'Toller replied to KitKat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You are very brave!!! I could imagine what would happen to me on rollerblades with 1 dog let alone more...I have enough trouble stopping when it's just me by myself. I never used to be like that...it's that psychological fear thing that happens sometime in your early 20's when you realise you're not immortal. Anyway...here you go Windchill scooters and carts. -
We generally give out Flax Seed Oil in the clinic, or recommend fish oil- just make sure they're labelled mercury free.

A few companies make electromagnetic dog doors, this is just one of them. Petsafe electronic dog door. Otherwise Puppy Trainer Pads might help keep the mess to a minimum for the short term. It would be cruel to confine a dog to a crate when there is a medical reason behind her accidents- this is not a training problem. Besides, if she is weeing in her bed now she would just wee in the crate most probably. Drybedding cut to size (from Snooza or there is a company advertising in the banner section on here) may be more helpful. I often use a puppy trainer pad underneath a piece of drybed for hospital animals and in the morning there is lots of pee contained on the pad but their bedding is dry. Drybed is easily washed and tumble dried as well. Mel.
