Morphine would be the cheapest part of the bill. If your Vet thinks they can do it then I would go for it, there are other specialists always available via the phone in case the Vet sees something they are not sure of. Has a culture and sensitivity been done on the fluid that's coming out?

Thanks for the info, I was going to wait a while and see where he popped up glad he chose not to go too far rural. Hope Racecourse Rd Vet are ready for the onslaught.

I always worry when I am monitoring old dog anaesthetics but I have assisted with lots of surgeries (mostly dentals) of dogs 10+ and they are generally the most smooth, never find I have any problems. Right now it's the bl**dy little cav x poodles that give me the most grief with anaesthetics!! RottyLover01 if there were multiple lumps and the dog was perfectly healthy I would do it too. One Vet I know removed a lump from their dog, was sure it would be a lipoma- turned out to be mast cell tumour- so you never know. Mel.

From what I can gather Berwick is probably more reward based although that can depend on which instructor you get. I think you would find that you'd fit in at either BODC or the Rotti Club. You can always go down and watch classes at Berwick first, see if you like it.

We always do a full blood profile for any dog over 8, unless the client declines of course. Being a control freak I'd like to know what the state of the liver and kidneys are before going ahead with any sedation. IV fluids can really help flush things through as well.

Was wondering that myself....

Latest Recommended Vaccination Schedule

I have the same sort of experience as stormie. I know the info is there for my boss but he remembers the very first Parvo epidemic where they didn't even have a parvo vaccine and I think fear is a big factor in Aussie Vets being cautious. -

Goodness, how many centres were operational? I know of Berwick and Doncaster. -
I know of one, a Toller sitting behind the steering wheel with the keys in it's mouth.

Yes dried fish I would try, you can generally find some in the cat section in Coles. I saw some at fish n feather the other day whilst buying crickets....amusingly I noticed a packet of fish bits that looked identical to the stuff workmate and I eat in our 'Salted fish fried noodle' from the local tofu place. :D

Desexing Whilst On Heat

Lol my boss drives an old old Rangie but it's all modified for 4wd holidays. I think a lot of Vets want the status symbol but can't necessarily go out and pay in full for a luxury vehicle- you will find they are mostly on leasing as a tax dodge. I have a newish car but be stuffed if I can afford the fuel these days....it's nearly 20% of my wages each week....but then I'm a nurse living in poverty. -
Are you actually expressing them out? As in putting a gloved finger up there and emptying them fully? What comes to mind is that perhaps she has a non-resolving anal gland infection and some AB's may clear it up.

Well I think if you have a list of matching dot points you have a much better chance than if you only have 'assumed knowledge' as I do. I know that when we did the health/first aid modules the Cert IV Vet Nurses had free time, I would imagine it was the same for Vets, after all two of the tutors are Vets. I think you'd be better off emailing Dr Gaille Perry about that one rather than speaking to the administrators. I can't imagine that she would say you'd need to do those modules, if there was a reason I'm sure she would explain it. The same applied for one of the modules that related to class taking, everyone with a qualification in Workplace Training were exempt. Mel.

Don't Think It's Poisoning, Do You?
Staff'n'Toller replied to suezija's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
His colour would be very pale, or grey, if he had serious internal bleeding, which by then is generally too late without blood transfusions etc. Dogs have 2 days worth of Vit K stores in their body so that may explain why his colour was still good. Is that all the Vet did just a clotting time? I guess you could run a full blood profile given that you are positive there would be no talon in or around your property. Is it possible he may have had back pain from playing with the other dog in the run? -
I could be wrong but I'd believe the best way to tell would be via Ultrasound. Perhaps coupled with a biochemistry profile to check liver values.

We tend to find the Royal Canin Obesity Control much more palatable than the Hills R/d, and RC also have a maintenance diet once they are back to good weight. I guess you need to find out is this only exercise related, or is this an overfeeding/giving too many extras problem. I'm afraid you may get the dog looking fantastic and it will go back to it's owner and end up back to the beginning in 6mths in our really difficult cases it seems to be a lot more to do with human psychology than anything else. They are told the dog is obese, they are worried about it, but they can't *see* that the dog in front of them is fat. -

I'm sure you're going to do the Doc's but it's really important to get onto the AB's for you (if you can) straight away. I've had to wait until the next day for one bite on my hand and it's not nice. -
Cruciate Ligament Damage
Staff'n'Toller replied to Pitchick's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If she has a full blood screen and it comes up all fine then I would get one done and see how she goes. Having had a competent Vet repair a Luxating Patella that is now full of arthritis on one of mine I would certainly seek out an Ortho Specialist and have an initial consult to talk about their preferred methods. There are different ways of approaching repair of Cruciate Ligaments. -

Welcome to the smell of Parvo, surpasses all others I am told!! Can't imagine what it would have been like when the epidemics were going around, having a whole hospital full of cases, my boss has told me about it though. -

They're confident? OR the pathologist examined the margins and noted they were clean? Just check on it at suture removal for your own piece of mind, you paid for it so if they didn't request a surgical margins check you still can. Cheers, Mel. -
Burn Or Reaction To Injection?
Staff'n'Toller replied to moosepup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm so sorry for your dogs - both of you. I never used kettle water in hot water bottles ever, but we stopped using them all together when I went to a seminar by Charles Kuntz and he talked about how many reconstruction surgeries he does due to burns. I am constantly nagging my boss for a Bair Hugger.....one day...I can dream.
