Is Your Dog Smarter Than You Are? Mine Is...damn It!
Staff'n'Toller replied to tez's topic in General Dog Discussion
One of mine is a fairly good alarm clock, most of the time I'm not happy about it, but she has saved me from an embarrassing phone call to work on more than one occasion! :D -

What To Feed My Golden Pup
Staff'n'Toller replied to GoldenGirl85's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The Eagle Pack Large Breed, or Royal Canin or Pro Plan would be much better than what you are feeding now. The pooping will be the tinned food, it's better if you just feed a super premium dry for now and turf your tinned food. What you feed her over the next 12 months is most important and you have a large breed so it's ultra important. If you have no freezer space then dry with sardines once a week, and raw chicken necks or wings would be great. You can buy them fresh by the kilo every few days and dish out an appropriate amount each day. Do your dry food changeover over about 5 days first 2 days 75% supercoat/25% new food then 50/50, then 75% new food and 25% supercoat. -
Obedience Instructors Going Too Far!
Staff'n'Toller replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Off leash reliability other than trial type obedience is not tested on a daily basis as it used to be years ago before the multitude of dog laws were put into place. People used to walk to the shops more etc, as transport and cars were not that plentiful and the family pet would regularly accompany people in their daily routines tagging along without leashes. Koehler methods were adopted by many trainers and clubs in those days which worked towards unleashed obedience and the reliablity of the trained dogs was fantastic. Things are far different now and the training methods are not tested the way they used to be in general daily unleashed obedience to base a comparison really. I will never forget a black Labrador that used to be sent to the primary school a few streets away to pick up the kids in the afternoon 20 years ago dogs involved in motor vehicle accidents were a common thing. My boss has been a Vet for 30 years and 20 years ago dogs HBC were his bread and butter money, they were brought in every single day. Pinning and plating fractured legs were done every week. There were many dogs off lead for sure, in the past, but their obedience was tested by their ability to stay off the road and I dare say a large percentage of them did not pass the test. -
It seems to come in waves here. But still 50% of my classes will be SWF's. The difference now is that with the shift in some pet shops advertising them as X's, the owners are carrying that on. Last year I had 2 classes running and 5 out of 7 were Pug x Cav's.

I have heard people talk very positively about Pugwood before, I feel like I want to get a Pug just so I can go to Pugwood.

Custom Made Canopies - Victoria?
Staff'n'Toller replied to Lablover's topic in General Dog Discussion
You could try Colin at Puppy Bars, if he can't help you then I'm sure he'd know someone who could. He was formally a 4x4 accessories business but now he mostly just does the cage systems purely because they are in so much demand. Can't wait to see finished pics of the air conditioned luxury dog transport system. -
Guide Dogs - What Were They Thinking?
Staff'n'Toller replied to KismetKat's topic in General Dog Discussion
If you see her again perhaps suggest she contact Guide Dogs and have a chat to them about it. Perhaps 1.5yrs ago her mobility was much better than it is now? I have seen the progression of several of my elderly family members and sometimes that decline in mobility happens very fast. I dare say he probably did have a recall and some training under his belt but unless they are able to keep enforcing it then of course it would extinguish. Generally the lines of Guide Dogs here are very very calm, I know a couple of puppy walkers and one of them has a failed dog too, but she is young and cheeky as well. Obviously they wanted an 8yr+ dog, often retired Guide Dogs go to other family members of the person they assisted for so the wait can be many years. -

Strips or singles? I just bought singles packs.

Rubystar I made it as easy as possible and bought the connectors and jump cups from clean run, then just went to bunnings and bought the correct diameter pvc and end caps. We cut our own pvc but you can get the guys at bunnings to cut to lengths for you as well for a small fee.

Price Of Ilium Neocort & Inflamol Creams
Staff'n'Toller replied to labsrule's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think our price is $25-30. I have used neocort on myself but I'm not really sure that the % of cortisone is particularly safe for hoomans. Cortavance spray is double the price but it may actually be a cost saver for you b/c I find it to be more effective in less treatments. -
Obedience Instructors Going Too Far!
Staff'n'Toller replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My sources on the ground tell me that schoolfordogs (.com.au) is probably closer. There is a fair chance that with precise training you can fix that, but of course I have no idea of your individual dog. -

What about CBS? No smacking. No yelling. No chains. No corrections. -
I did the Intro to Pet Grooming at Box Hill TAFE about 8 years ago, back then it was taught by Scott Daldy, not sure where he is now but I notice the course is still running and you are in Vic. We learned bathing, drying, clipper and blade care, the variations of pet clips and fluffy clips- we didn't cover Poodle clips but I guess if you do a course of some sort you may be able to get some Saturday work and learn the more specialised clips as you go.

In the first instance I would say they would class it as a pre-existing, I guess you'd have to get the specialist to correspond with the insurance company on that, and you may want to look at an insurance company that is owned or run by Vets with the knowledge, there are a couple of those funds.

It's 3 of 3 posts where they have made a random statement about pet insurance and 1300 insurance is listed in their sig.
