  1. The cost is very dependent on time taken in surgery, how much (if any) of the bowel is removed and how many days in intensive care. If the dog has a large section of bowel removed and needs a few nights transfer to a 24hr hospital it can be much more than $1000-$2000. Bowel resection takes a bit longer to recover from, particularly in an older dog, there is increased worry about fluid leaks etc.
  2. Quite right. We can treat things like dog arthritis and congestive heart failure very well, for a long period of time, but it does cost.
  3. I thought that too (well I thought you were going to say you ran it along the top) and I was thinking hmmm....yes....great idea.
  4. OMG adorable! Can't wait to hear about his adventures. Hope you realise you will have another heart breed!! Don't worry about the sleep thing- just put him in your bed under the doona he will sleep all night...he will end up there eventually anyway!
  5. If you can afford it take a look at a Forester- low enough for your dogs to jump into, good cargo space and 4 cyl.
  6. I believe my last discussion with jinkispirit was that we would look towards September when the ground has dried up. She was going to see what dates they could spare 2 people to come down and the costs involved.
  7. Common typo actually! I've even had people say it like that!
  8. You may need to go for something specially designed for pancreatitis just to get him back on track. Hills i/d is turkey and egg and Royal Canin have a Gastrointestinal Low Fat. Both have tinned versions and you can heat them in the microwave.
  9. I used systema click clack containers, would be easy to stack a bunch of those in 300gm but 5-600 would be bigger taller containers so might prove a problem.
  10. The Snooza futon is filled with wool and a cotton cover. ETA: You can always get a cool mat if a bed ends up being too hot. Something like this.
  11. They had problems previously when a couple of dogs got intestinal blockages from them in the US. They were reformulated and relaunched- with 2 differences, one is that they put weak sections all the way along the chew so they naturally break into smaller pieces at those points. The other is they made them dissolve faster in the gut and did a study to ensure that they did. You'll notice the ones they sell now are much more bendy than the previous version. They have a place- for dogs who can't eat raw bones for whatever reason. For people like me who need to give 3 dogs a chewy that they all finish so there are no fights. They are particularly handy for SWF's who will not touch bones come hell or high water but will eat these. Someone makes money out of them sure, but if it's not the Vet it's an internet business or whatever. When you buy dentabones from the supermarket Pedigree makes money. If SWF's can eat these regularly and avoid a dental then it makes it worthwhile IMO.
  12. He's a sweetheart Ptolomy! I wonder if he realises where he's coming to....his little eyes will pop out when he sees all your dogs at home.
  13. I hope you can find someone who is running it soon. I know a trainer who runs them occasionally in Vic so if you are ever travelling down for something else that has flexible dates let me know I can pass on her details. They were rare enough (the tests) without putting more limitations on it....unfortunate for people who are keen to do the test.
  14. 10.30-6.30. My old Stafford girl doesn't get up at that time for toilet though- she just wants her breakfast biscuit! Then she will go back to sleep for a couple of hours!
  15. Don't quote me as it was a while ago , he took measurements while I waited and we booked a date. He built it and had it for 1-2 days during that time, then it went to powder coaters so I took the car back in 5 days for fitting. We also had a delay as the cargo barrier he picked up was wrong or he wasn't happy with it (one or the other I can't recall). He was very busy around that time and I was only 15mins away so it didn't bother me for Colin to have it there a bit longer. I know that he has people travel from interstate so I'm guessing he would streamline the process a little? For ease of removal of the cage doors I can't fault it.
  16. Easier just to re-link. He also made an angle adjustment to the cargo barrier so there was more room in the back and custom made the brackets as the standard factory ones go across the side windows and look a bit ugly!
  17. Have you sent an email to Delta head office?
  18. I have a false floor, cargo barrier and cage doors manufactured by them. I don't know anyone who has a bad word to say about Colin and his work. He is always booked 6-12 weeks in advance and is very popular. You can probably find a few other companies in Melbourne but Colin finishes his off to a very high standard and he's fussy about it too. I think the fact that he owns dogs makes a big difference. He took a bit longer with my install to alter a 5cm gap in the top of my cargo barrier (was a new nissan one) because he was worried about dogs getting caught in it. The photos of mine are in a previous thread.
  19. I wish you Lappie owners would stop talking about how awesome Lappie's are! :D I want 2 dogs that match for a change and there's all these Aussie and Lappie owners raving about their breed on dol!!! Lol.
  20. Lilydale Lake is good (although no dog swimming in the actual lake) but there seems to be a bunch of groupies who use the creek in the off lead section over summer. I used to do lots of walking at the Liverpool Rd retarding basin in The Basin, I'm not sure what the dog/human culture is like there now but there always seems to be cars in the carpark. I have walked up Pavitt Lane across the road from there and if you turn right into Sheffield Rd you can walk all the way to The Basin-Olinda Rd and back down (round trip ~6km) but it is unmade road so you have to be careful of traffic. Would like to know if there's any good bush tracks around Kalorama and surrounds that isn't national park..? Cardinia Reservoir also looks good but it is on lead and some areas where dogs are not allowed...that may have been slackened off recently though I haven't checked the info sheet for it lately.
  21. Was going to be my suggestion check on the ping string as they have it for possums etc. here in Vic. There was a thread on this just the other day and K9 Pro was recommending the containment system as the hot tape current has to travel through the dogs CNS.
  22. Chiro sounds like a good idea but find someone who's qualified in what they're doing. http://www.avca.com.au/ you can find people in your State via the locate tab. ETA: Given the two probable breeds of your dog some hip xrays would be beneficial to your peace of mind and good Chiro's will actually ask if you have any so they can ensure they're not going to do more damage.
  23. You may find that the weight drops off fairly quickly since you're with-holding any access to lasagne! (I.e. there may not be anything really drastic you need to do, just feed him a good light dog diet be it raw or dry.)
  24. It's a shame that the trial is cancelled, but it's good for the grounds that it's getting a deep soaking. Will only make the surface better later on.
  25. Gypsy is 15kg and has 2 per day. They are not as economical as the powder by any stretch, but I don't mind as she loves them and it's a night time routine for her.
