  1. You've had some good advice so far. In the interim I would change to Royal Canin, lots of people on this forum feed sup*coat with no problem whatsoever but I have seen way too many in the clinics I've worked at come in with bad skin and are fed this brand. Hot wash and tumble dry the bedding at least once weekly. Visit this page http://www.dermcare.com.au/easyweb3/WEBID-...de-allegry_info download the pdf poster link they have there, print it out in colour and walk around your yard to see if you have any of the common weeds. Wandering Jew is the most common one. All your dog needs to do is run through these types of weeds and crunch the leaves to get a contact allergy. You must totally eradicate any of those weeds you notice. I would still treat for fleas as I know my Stafford only needs one or two adult fleas to cause a flare up. If you don't want to apply an oil to the skin comfortis is a month long oral medication that will do the same thing (essentially). You need to be treating all dogs and all cats in the home, even if the dogs never come into contact with the cats.
  2. I know that the breeders of one of my dogs did some of this stuff (not sure if they followed the program strictly) she was born in 1999. I'm pretty certain that Guide Dogs Vic use a program like this or this program. I have heard a puppy walker talk about it.
  3. Same here. The buggers spy the eggs in my hand and start wiggling their butts. One will run around with her egg untill she finally drops it The others are straight to smash them and eat the whole lot. +3 but probably only once a week so I doubt it's an issue. I eat heaps of poached eggs so if *most* of them were infected with salmonella I'd be the first to know about it.
  4. I would say if you were building there would be lots of great smells from the earth being dug up.
  5. I only know of an Indian Ringneck that shoves his head in a glass or mug and talks away to himself...supposedly he likes the way it sounds in there. :D
  6. I was wondering about your dog this week...whether you had the results back. Do they say anything else about the thyroid? As in how you should treat it?
  7. Yes my Toller is much more persistent than any of my previous dogs but I do what Aidan does ^^^ for things like poking his nose everywhere I don't want to use whatever punishment would be strong enough to extinguish the behaviour. I have a feeling it would need to be very harsh (considering what I have tried in the past). Generally the persistent behaviours he has are more annoying than anything else so I just train what I want instead. Makes me use my brain for a change. ETA: I have noticed what you have in that there may be no reinforcement value or particularly in Tollers there may have been one extremely mild positively reinforcing consequence that cements it in forever.
  8. I find success rate with bitter lime spray is about 20%. It could be the way it's being used, or not used! But that's what I tend to find. I work with a Vet who sits on an ethics committee so it will be interesting to see what eventually gets through.
  9. I would get a second opinion just to be sure it's not teeth.
  10. Actually in clinics we only got the fax at lunchtime here so I'm betting they will be off the shelf pretty soon. Problem is that in clinics we can generally track all our food sales to our clients- they can't do that unless clients are on a loyalty scheme or get an email newsletter.
  11. I'm sending my Naturally Wild back so Gypsy gets to stay on the RC Fish and Tapioca for a while yet.
  12. http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/dog-supp...l-products.html http://www.twenga.com.au/dir-Pets,Dogs,Reflective-dog-jacket http://www.rspp.co.uk/hi-vis-dog-coat---wi...-tapes-43-p.asp That was just from the first page of google.
  13. Send me an email to address at the top of this page so I can put you in the notifications folder.
  14. a bit :D but how does a new dog owner do this? VickieP is obviously a bit concerned in trying to do the right thing by her pup - how does someone unused to doing such things know if their vet is trustworthy/knowledgable /'good' ? I was thinking about this yesterday ...and thinking how hard it would be... especially if you had an illness/injury putting you under pressure Friends, neighbours, the OP has kids so could ask some of the parents at school, if you ask enough people you will start to see a majority all heading to a particular clinic. The biggest proportion of our business is word of mouth.
  15. I know a great Vet in Kuraby, QLD who breeds Retrievers (Duck Tolling not Labs) so if you are anywhere near there I will pass on her details.
  16. I'm not sure it's that easy to get a 3 mth old bouncy Lab to hold it's leg out and then have it laying on it's side, perfectly still, with the paw in a good position. If it were me and he is still the same tomorrow I would be taking xrays and if they find nothing in the toes or wrist, I would tell them to keep going and get views of the elbow and shoulder as well while he is sedated.
  17. Blackdog have double ended couplers - they call theirs a 'brace' (you clip it to your existing lead) or double ended leads (police design).
  18. I can show you much worse tick photos than those of dogs in Oz with no access to Veterinary services!
  19. This is a good link to send her. I'm laughing but very serious at the same time.
  20. Yes that's correct the straps all come together, and hey have added a small tab with a snap hook to hold the rings through the plates when they are off the lead. By low profile I mean it's nice and thin and the straps are narrower compared with the kramar seat belt harness for example.
  21. The buckle is a bit weird but once you get used to it you'll be fine. Two rings go thru the plate so you can clip a) a lead on or b) the seat belt strap (or both) and there is an extra little attachment that you can leave on or take off, it just joins the neck and the chest parts together in case they are zooming around off lead. They are very low profile for walking.
  22. Thanks for that! I have a bag of Naturally Wild at work to bring home...might just wait for updates on it!
  23. I used 2 x 6mth doses on my Toller before desexing. I didn't breed with him so can't tell you how it went but everything seemed to return to normal after the first 6mth dose. I cant feel any pieces left over now. Shoemonster has used it on one of her dogs and successfully mated him after. I'm sure the manufacturer would be happy to supply you with the studies on it if you emailed them.
  24. If you just want something strong for teaching then the red disc from aussiedog.com.au is good.
