I have Click to Calm but am ashamed to say I haven't read it all yet. Do they cover parallel walking in it?

Painting Weave Poles & Jump Poles
Staff'n'Toller replied to Staff'n'Toller's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have used tape as well, but my poles spend a lot of time out in the elements. I have read that particularly when teaching 2x2 often the dogs hair gets pulled by the tape - and I do have Toller hair in the tape on my poles. I want something more permanent. -

Sorry if this has been done.. Has anyone painted their own pvc, what did you use? Did you need to prepare the surface first or did you just spray paint directly? Cheers, Mel. -
The other thread says going to visit two breeders tomorrow and hopefully put a deposit down. Unless I've missed something. Ah, ok, apologies, I misread.
-
Didn't you already put a deposit on a pup today?

I think if that many people are having problems every one of those claims should be going to the ombudsman. It's not ok that 10+ companies all underwritten by Hollard Ins. Think it's ok to make mega $$ out of pet insurance and not have to pay claims. I am a consumer of Pet Insurance and you can bet that I would be taking them to the ombudsman if it were me, it would be the same if it was my own private health insurance- don't let them get away with it people!!!

Just Some Of The Things My Dogs Eat, Aside From Meat
Staff'n'Toller replied to Kirislin's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Geordie my Toller taught my girls Kelpie x and Stafford how to eat raw veggies, before then they wouldn't have entertained the thought. They still eat some things (raw zucchini for e.g.) with a confused look on their faces..wondering why he finds them so tasty I imagine. -
At this stage chipping is only compulsory for commercial breeders with more than 10 breeding bitches, pet shops and welfare/rescue. So small registered breeders aren't under obligation to chip. Some breeders just don't like doing their pups at 8 weeks, that's ok. They need to be chipped by 3 months to be registered with your council though. The thing is that here we need to submit the microchip registration form within two days, so in a DogsVic registered litter, all the pups are registered to the breeder, the breeder then needs to sign a change of ownership for every pup and that needs to be submitted- double the paperwork. Some breeders find it easier that the owners get the dog chipped within 4 weeks and then it ensures the pup has been checked by a vet too. Perfectly legal. I think all registered breeders should be chipping their pups before they go for other reasons but if they tick every other box in terms of what you're looking for in a pup then I wouldn't not buy a pup for that reason.

Looking For A High Quality Australian Kibble
Staff'n'Toller replied to illusionzzz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sorry for trying to be remotely helpful. -
Gypsy had no name for a couple of weeks, we had to have a family meeting, couldn't decide. I try to have names picked before they come now! She is super pretty.

It may be if they're getting regular pallet deliveries, that they will special order it for you. -
She might be just waiting around to see if any more chicken frames or bbq meat is on offer.

Anticipation & Bad Behaviour
Staff'n'Toller replied to Stitch's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have fitted many dogs of which their owners have previously had varying control. It is not the be-all, end-all tool, just like martingales, correction chains, head halters etc etc. On the majority of dogs it works very well but the owner has to be committed to catching and rewarding the behaviour changes very quickly to gain a lasting effect. I can't tell you what effect it will or won't have over on your dog over the internet. Your dog may not just be hyperactive but anxious and possibly what you are doing, as well as what you are not doing, may be fuelling this type of anxiety. I assume from your statements that you bred this dog? By the information you give it seems more than just an excited dog...but you know the dog best. Since you say the behaivour is escalating you would most benefit from finding a very experienced trainer or even a Veterinary Behaviourist. I wouldn't be doing much in the way of showing or training until you've consulted with someone and worked out a plan of attack. -

Hence why I posted a you tube link. Instead of a traditional harness that encourages the dog to pull into it due to their opposition reflex, the front attach harnesses place some pressure across the shoulders and chest depending on which side they are pulling towards (L or R). The constant pressure encourages them to move in towards you and not pull too far in front. With the halti harness and the blackdog balance harness, you use a double ended lead. The ring on the back is like your brakes (stop and go) and the lead at the front is your left and right steering as such. As I said previously, google TTouch balance lead and you will find out how it was traditionally developed, hence the adaptions to these recent harness designs. -

I wasn't referring to head collars. -
You would be stunned and shocked, but any owner should be stopping and thinking about why their dog feels they need to warn that they are uncomfortable with what is happening to them. Checking leadership is great, but all dogs are different and as Corvus says, she is just communicating. The most important thing is changing the dogs' perception, this is a great opportunity for the OP to introduce some exercises that helps Sally to feel ok. The collar grab game, and lots of hand targetting to get the dog to move around are both great examples. I've taught all my dogs to move 'out the way' on command and to 'move over' to wherever I point and that is taught with lots of rewards in the beginning. Cracking down on the NILIF is good, but changing perception will be more successful and create a longer lasting change.

Ditto to that, sounds like things are escalating and you don't want them to decide to fight until one of their ends. I would be patching fences and burying chicken wire, concrete trench or railway sleeper trench- whatever is easiest.

Here is the best video I can find of a front attach harness, the halti branded harness is probably the most elaborate but you get the idea anyway. The Gentle Leader Easy Walk and Sens-ible are other brands as are the Blackdog Wear Balance harnesses. There's no guarantees that it will decrease excitement but I have certainly noticed it as a happy side effect with many dogs. These types of manufactured harnesses are made with the same sort of idea as the TTouch balance lead, which was designed to bring the dogs posture back into 'balance' there is lots of info on google. -
A Perfect Spot Dog Training

Jenni Pearce is good. Her puppy school should be a well run and safe one. -
They do smell funny- I think it's the egg product in them. It's dependent on the use-by and how long they've been opened of course.

Opening a paypal account is a safer way of doing transactions overseas. Are you at a club or do you know any dolers up there? Perhaps if they order from clean run or dogwise they may be happy to order for you. I'm pretty sure clean run accept cheques so maybe email them and there is a way you could send a cheque by registered post. There is a bookshop here in Aus that have those sorts of titles but the name escapes me...someone might remember it. You may want to try to find a trainer to fit a front attach harness, it won't give you total control over the high arousal but it will give you more of the controlled walking behaviour so you can get more reinforcement in, and *may* calm the dog somewhat just due to how it fits. -
It cracks me up how many owners think we are calling to tell them something bad has happened. We just don't lose dogs under anaesthetic these days...has to be something catastrophic for that to happen. With all the pre-anaesthetic testing these days it is considered very safe. We take it very seriously and we expect every dog to have a good anesthetic and recover well. We have a patient monitor that is made by the same company that do human patient monitoring, I can literally hook myself up to the ECG and print it out to take to my GP - it's that good. I still maintain those little SWF's with beginnings of liver failure and stage II/III heart murmurs have smoother anaesthetics than the young, fit ones!! :D

This is a huge issue for us. People give us numbers and we ask "are you contactable on this number ALL day" *owner nods* then we're in the middle of surgery and need to ask something trivial i.e. "we noticed a dead tooth, can we have your permission to remove it?" and all we get are message banks. It's the most infuriating thing for Veterinary staff. For all I know onsntillnflash you gave a mobile and your clinic didn't bother to try it, so not having a go at you, just trying to highlight what a pain it is!!!
