That's great you are taking it further, let us know how it goes.

Staff'n'Toller did they write on the certificate of insurance that UTIs are an exclusion? No, I advised them when applying, but there is nothing on the certificate. I have not made a claim yet so when I do they will ask for the full history and I expect they will be noting it properly then. I do think you should seek legal or ombudsman advice on your particular problem though, I'm not sure we can help you at all.

I don't really trust any insurance agencies. After what they were all trying to do here in Vic after the freak hail storm that damaged many (and my) cars I know that they will try to wangle out of anything or try to do it as cheaply as possible. I feel I only really have my car insured against theft or being written off (touch wood) even though I have full comp. I took out Pet Insurance for one of my guys at 5yrs knowing that if he came up with IMHA before hand, which is common in our breed, that they would cover none of that into the future and probably no complications to do with it either. He also had a questionable UTI at 8 weeks so I doubt they would cover anything to do with that either into the future- it's the risk you take.
-
x2 IMO it should be taken out, as it's still solid I doubt bones etc would help now. x3 It also affects the dentition as the adult canine can't move into it's correct place and that can affect the canine on the lower jaw in the long term.

I would still get that in writing, that they definitely will cover the other leg.

Lip Licking And Food Obsession
Staff'n'Toller replied to flycow's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Lip smacking due to stress would be my first thought and I think you could actually use the clicker to get her out of it too. Labs train up fine with food but I have found you don't need to train on an empty stomach, and you can use lower value foods with them so they are not so focused on it. Liver is generally as high as I go where as my base foods for other dogs would be chicken loaf, dried fish etc. If you find she is too obsessed with the food it's really going to be more about changing your schedule of reinforcement. -
I have the authentic backseat buddy, had it for about 8 years now and it still looks new. It's been through many washes in the machine as well. ETA: It comes with quite a few strap configurations so if you want to strap it down to clips in your boot/back or to the child safety anchor points you can do that too.
-
They will need high value treats and to spend some time just pairing the click with food. I think he is still probably settling in, it's normal for pups to not be particularly foody when they move house.
-
Very simply they could charge up a clicker using some scrummy food, and click/treat anytime he is being brave and adventurous plus looking relatively calm about it. They must treat after every click and it's important they are not reinforcing scared behaviour, so the timing of the click is fairly important. They should probably seek out a trainer who can give them some advice. Puppy School may be a bit overwhelming but if they can find one that has small numbers of pups with little or no off lead play that may be good.

Yes l had a look at it earlier, Swan Hill is probably one of the closest but is just over 4 hours each way, Wangaratta is almost 6 hours and l think Shepparton is about 5. Any suggestions how to find a local chiro, l dont know any breeders/ showies in our area (Nhill - Horsham) to ask but l guess they have to use someone or even greyhound trainers but am having trouble finding someone to ask. :D ;) Hmmm...do you come into Melbourne at all? I mean, my dogs' Chiro recommends every 3-4 months for a young healthy dog so I guess if you are heading into Melbourne for other things the option may be there to meet someone on the western side. Mine travels a fair bit so don't assume they all work out of a central practice. ;)

Puppy Missing Critical Socialisation Period
Staff'n'Toller replied to melzawelza's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It's rehab depends on many factors..some are: the pup's bounce back after getting a fright, it's genetic make-up, whether it can relax enough out and about to pair a reward with a stressful stimulus, how much work the owner puts in, their handling ability; timing and ability to read the dog, the experience and methods of the behaviourist...the list goes on. Can you get a dog that can cope 'well enough' in the world as a pet dog? Maybe. Can you get a dog that is relaxed and happy in the world? Harder to predict. There are lots of pups who are taken home and not really taken outside the home until 16 weeks or long after and they still do ok...again it depends on some of those factors above. -
Have you tried here: http://www.avca.com.au/search_results.php?...&search=VIC

The intro of the dvd is on you tube. Also there are some videos of people training their own dogs in the program.

Is There A Good Alternative To Glucosamine
Staff'n'Toller replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm pretty sure there is someone at Woofpurnay who is doing bowen. I haven't had cause to use her but she is in the back of my mind in the future. My Stafford is doing well with warm water swimming, chiro, cartrophen, Joint Guard and (as an aside) she is on low dose NSAID's now because she's an old lady and deserves to be comfortable. The NSAID's have been a fairly recent addition though. -
When you do your first claim they will ask for the dog's full history so they can refer back to it for future reference.

I am going to teach my 3 dogs, 13yrs, 11yrs, and 5yrs before we take them away in Nov. I want to teach Geordie as we need to work on distance for agility anyhow.

Teaching A Dog To Eat Things On Command
Staff'n'Toller replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We use http://www.paw4pets.com/joint-care.html apparently some dogs will eat these capsules as they are because they can smell the GLM through the coating. I haven't found that yet though. I'm not sure how easy it is for you to source or how much it would cost of course, but it's fairly cost effective here. We have seen NSAID type reactions mostly from sashas, they seem to get a bit of diarrhoea, go off their food and are generally lethargic. I don't think we've had any reports from Joint Guard causing adverse reactions yet. -

Hmmm thanks, I'll investigate & see if we can get it over here, & if so if it's any more expensive than the the human version that she's currently on. Not keen to order it from Oz, that might be a little pricey. Don't you live in the Green Lipped Mussel Capital of the world? A dried GLM for a dog -
Pet Insurance....when Do You Claim?
Staff'n'Toller replied to Bluefairy's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is a section on the Petplan form, if you know the persons name who's dog injured yours you have to fill it in, I think Petplan then contact them and try and make them pay up. Fair enough, but not the angle I was coming from To be clearer, if one of your dogs injures another dog of yours, if the one who caused the injury has insurance, is there anything to cover the cost of the injured animal (kinda like 3rd party insurance... which I know nothing about so I am probably likening it to something that I shouldn't be ) I'm not sure if it's in your house and contents, but I know that it's in my Pet Insurance policy if it happens out and about- it's public liability so they need to make a small claim against you or something, the policy is not transferable as such. It's definitely a valid question though. -
