Jane Is Dependant On Pheromones To Be Normal
Staff'n'Toller replied to tez's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A Veterinary Behaviourist may be able to confirm your findings, or alert you to any research papers done lately on what you are seeing with your dog. They would also be pretty interested in her I think! I actually think that hyperactivity is a form of stress in the physiological effect in would be having on her body if she was always in a high state. You may need to consult with someone to teach her to calm herself down, if you want to experiment with weaning her off it. But if you are happy then just go with the flow I guess...she is still an adolescent after all. At 24-36 months may see her calming down a bit. -
Ditto, and really, if I was going to take a young sporting breed and do things with him, I'm not sure I'd want to give him back after 12 months. Perhaps it would be easier on the dog to find a great home that already does sports with their other dogs than confuse him?

Wow that sounds organised. What do you mean by session number? Ness is doing the drive training package - just being her sechetery, she has logged off for tonight.

I'm not sure how much they ate? But we treat with vitamin K for 6-8 weeks and have never lost any dogs that get onto the treatment in time. Dogs generally have 2 days of Vitamin K stores, so by rights you would have lost your dogs by now if you were going to. Did they take some blood and do an activated clotting time? Is there already evidence of blood loss in your dogs i.e. pale gums or bruising? Unless it's some sort of new bait that I don't know about, if they are on the correct Vitamin K dosage they should be perfectly normal in 10 days but you need to keep treating for 6 weeks at least.

Which council if you don't mind me asking? This week alone I've had 2 dogs run up to us whilst I was taking a class. I asked them both to recall their dogs, one had a semi recall, the other one had no recall, I grabbed the dog by it's harness and the owner was saying "wait, wait" as she was trying to clip her lead on.....as if I was not to let go of the dog until she had the lead on.......ummmmm excuse me?!?!?! Ridiculous situation. Glen Eira. But I'm pretty sure it is the same for most councils in metro Melbourne. Not that I know of, Glen Eira is a bit strange though. Everywhere I know of it's under voice control off leash.

Choice Magazine On Vaccination
Staff'n'Toller replied to frufru's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Basically they just talked about core vaccines, the historical reasons why Vets are still vaccinating yearly, and the new recommendations. The closing paragraph was essentially that you should think about what you want as a consumer, and decide on what suits you along with some open communication with your Vet. You can purchase per article I think? It should be up on their site now. -
Dry Food That Does Not Contain Wheat, Corn Or Soy?
Staff'n'Toller replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
One of my dogs found the Artemis Maximal too rich unfortunately. I guess there's no reason you can't try their other varieties. The osopure looks great as it's their 'low residue' variety. I contacted K9KatzKitchen and she gave me some samples to try, maybe send a PM? I'm keen to try the Black Hawk Holistic. My Stafford girl has been eating RC Prescription Sensitivity Control as it's Blue Whiting and Tapioca with hydrolysed poultry liver, it does have soya oil in it but that's it. She gets a bit fussy but generally eats with gusto and it smells nom to me. The others like it as training treats since it smells like fish. -
My Oh's Conversion To Dog Person
Staff'n'Toller replied to dee lee's topic in General Dog Discussion
Don't show ME that little one!!! I have mentioned getting another dog in passing, just to test the waters, but judging by the "NO WAY" and the black look, the conversion is by no means far enough for that!! :D Persevere Dee! OH was like that, thought life was nice with Bubby and was always proclaiming how easy it was with just one dog. Now he has these conversations about hypothetical wormholes that send through five Bitties and how he would keep them all because Bitties can’t possible live without their Daddies. ;) What did you feed him? I would like to order some in a bottle. Just in case I need it in the future. -
His books are free to download- it tells you exactly how in them.

You may find someone...I'm not really sure. Whilst it's all nice in theory for some pups it's just plain disaster for others. If your pup was a little timid of people, forcing (flooding) it with collar grabs from unknown strangers could give you a lifetime of headaches to deal with. I know with my latest dog that would have been the undoing of him. If your pup got a fright a couple of times from a bigger more exuberant puppy (before a trainer could get to them) then was fearful of all dogs larger than it automatically and it took you years of careful socialisation to fix but it never went away would you be angry??? I know I sure would. When I take puppy classes I have an obligation to EVERY puppy and their owner that their puppy has a positive experience and learns at their own pace. If you want to work off leash that's fine- go find a regular group at a dog park and practice there, but give your dog the benefit of learning with as little stress as possible before you start to add in distractions.

:D I just checked mine, get them from the Greek supermarket- they're from Portugal. I'm not sure I'd buy fish from Thailand actually.

Does anyone buy from a regular supplier in East/Outer East/South East?

Pia Insurance - Cruciate Ligament Exam
Staff'n'Toller replied to fiveplusone's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I didn't bother, but I took it out when my dog is older, so I know his cruciates are healthy. If you were taking it out on a breed prone to doing their cruciates and on a 6mth old dog say- might be well worth it. -
Stressed Out When Travelling In Car

Might be worth trying DAP spray as well. -
Scratching may just be due to stress if he hasn't worn an eliz collar before.

Do Dog Flea Treatments Kill Cat Fleas
Staff'n'Toller replied to Ellie's mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No, there are many different species of flea. From what I recall (although damned if I can find the source) almost every type of mammal has its own species of flea (over 2000 species of flea). Cat fleas are the most common though. For the context of this thread unless they are stickfast fleas, the problem this OP will be having is with cat fleas due to the fact they are using a medication with short residual effect. That's why I said they are the same. I never said there weren't other species of fleas. -
Do Dog Flea Treatments Kill Cat Fleas
Staff'n'Toller replied to Ellie's mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Cat fleas and dog fleas are the same- it's called the common flea. Capstar only works for about 12 hours, so if that's all you're using and you live in Sydney then that is most likely your issue. You are killing adult fleas only, which Dr Harry likes to tell us is only 5% of the total population (and that's pretty accurate). Try a spot on, or Comfortis which is a month long (Capstar type) tablet. You many not need to do anything else at this stage unless you literally have cats sleeping in your garden or under the house AND those are areas that are shared with your dog. Cats just passing through shouldn't be much of a problem. -
If he pops straight out of a sit to approach another smaller dog quickly then that may be a problem also in the body language area. Really, face-to-face leash meetings with tension is not good for either dog, they can't 'get away' if they need to and they can't practice a relaxed approach going through their calming signals BEFORE they even get to the other dog. That's why they arc up, if they are showing calming signals but Banjo is not reciprocating then they may automatically assume he might be threatening. You may find Turid Rugaas' books/dvd quite interesting. She has a website.

Lacy And Tully And Thier Quest To Become Delta Dogs
Staff'n'Toller replied to tlc's topic in General Dog Discussion
You're allowed to be unsure! Anyone would be. As megan says, not all dogs make good therapy dogs, and a lot of their owners can't see that their dogs are not handling the stress well in the test and the news has to be politely broken to them. Disappointing if you really want to do therapy work with your dog hey?! -

Well done! Didn't sound like they would be a problem. -
I use a Blackdog Y-front tracking harness with the walkydog, it inhibits pulling a little, I'm not sure if it would rub on a short coated dog, mine is long coated.
