I would say it's becoming standard practice and for legal reasons they have to offer it. In human surgery you just don't get a choice- it's done as a matter of course but it's either covered under medicare or private health so they are 'hidden' costs.

Fresh dry newspaper as a base, old flannelet sheets and a polar fleece rug? Nail rugs into the kennel if it's wooden. -
You might like to look at retrieving bumpers or dummies. Aussiedog sell canvas ones under their SAS Accessories tab or Avery is the brand I use from the US.

If they are from K9 homes, then they do.

Dr Jean Dodds - New "food Intolerance Test Kit"
Staff'n'Toller replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Will be very interested in how you both go with the results Erny and MEH. My little Stafford girl is 12 now and I have her stable but I would pay the money just to *know* what it is that sets her off! My guess is it will be more than 1 protein. -

I think it's half an hour for genetech.... So I would certainly wait the hour or more. -
Aah ok...gee that's annoying. I don't know where you are but I would phone RC helpline and say you are desperate, they may be able to source from another clinic for you. I was having a freak out about my dog and the hypoallergenic earlier in the week and our rep was most helpful. If you are in Vic and want to do a phone order and have it picked up from my clinic we can do a phone order.

For us in Vic, more of the Mobility Support is being delivered tomorrow from our wholesaler, and we got a huge delivery a few weeks ago of all of our backorders. RC tell me there's another shipment due next week, and it is due to all the Hills folk having to switch over to RC Prescription formulas, but RC feels they will be back on track very soon. You should ring around if you are having trouble getting RC Mobility, as I have more 14kg bags than I know what to do with now.

We have a bosch front loader here at work and it doesn't miss a beat, considering it is always dog hair blankets that we wash in it. When using the top loader at home I just wipe it out afterward. Really the best thing is tumble drying them each time - probably most economical to wash at home and take them all to the laundromat to tumble dry. You'll get at least 50% of the hair out that way.

Disregard, did not work. :p

Excuse my ignorance but "insert text here" is that your comment or the quote you are wanting to address? Thanks for your response! Sorry I was just tryin' to help you out with the quote thingy. :p I actually use the little speech bubble icon then type in between the tags so I don't have to remember which way it goes etc. I think you need a rich text version to see that though? I actually fitted many prong collars in my dark past *cue scary music* so I have no problem with this thread. Couldn't agree more!!

Did many of you start with using the Tracking Dog Theory and Methods program? I'm just up to reading the beginning of the program (keep picking up other books in between ).

To expand on that, I think being a good teacher is just as important. You can have ObCh dogs but if you can't impart the information to adult learners so they can grasp it and use it, and can't keep people enthused, then your dog's achievements become of little consequence to owners having problems with their own dog/s.

There has been lots of threads on this in the past so you may find some useful info doing a search. Cert III Dog Training and Cert IV CAS (Delta provided) would equip you with the knowledge (not necessarily enough hands-on experience) to start your own business in a Training School capacity or to find work with other established businesses. From looking at the non Delta Cert IV CAS I'm not sure how helpful it would be in establishing your own training business. If you really want to be a dog trainer I would make the effort to do the Delta provided course. Doing Animal Science at Uni equips you to be an Animal Behaviourist but jobs are few and far between. If you have the cash to support yourself through Uni I think you could expect to have to go on to phd study after that.

2011 Brags Thread

It will be gone tomorrow. You will feel like you are going Then you will need a Just kidding! -
It sounds as though you made the right decision. It's my own personal observation that some male dogs are better with male leaders...just saying (I'm assuming you are female?!). You sound fairly busy in your home life- there's no reason the right dog can't fit into that, but you might like to look towards non-working breeds that are more human focused and don't have needs that are incompatible with your needs (family, running a business etc.). As the others have said, don't beat yourself up, there may be lots of owners Bo is not suited to- not just yourself.

It's just swollen I think, post surgery, it appears there is still a drain in there.

Retrieving & Field Training Talk

Yes, she's got her 'funny ears' on! -
AVA have heavily subsidised desexing for anyone on a pension card using a voucher system available from the council. This has been in place longer than I have been a Vet Nurse. I'm sure there may be some reduction in overpopulation but it would be hard to quantify just how much when the reasons for pet overpopulation is multi-faceted. They still won't catch people who feel they have every right to make money out of their bitch/es and there also needs to be an attitude shift toward desexing- in some sectors this has a cultural base.
