  1. I haven't vacc'd my dogs for kennel cough for about 8 years. I think *once* they had a mild cough for a couple of days but nothing before or since. I consider I take home some nice amounts of virus on my clothes on an occasional enough basis that sparks immunity. :D I do, however, triennial C3 for the younger dog as we never see parvo or infectious hepatitis here. I guess you could argue I am being contradictory, however I'd kick myself if my dog contracted parvo. (Older dog is not vacc'd as she has multiple liver tumours.)
  2. Pug x Cav Beagle x Cav Pug X JRT Those are my guesses...
  3. Find a Vet that stocks Advance. They should be able to get them easily.
  4. There's no surer thing than certainty that the local media will misquote you and not publish your own statements, rather something they think will 'fit' into their story. I wouldn't take it literally.
  5. It depends what you need, if you need a training refresher then it may be worth it. Myself, I am usually running the Puppy Schools, so I would just head straight out to a club and do some careful distance work for very short periods until puppy was old enough to join in. However I take the parvo risk on my own head. Some pups really NEED puppy school and their owners just don't realise how valuable that early intervention was. The way you describe your pup though, it's probably less of an issue. I would definitely line up some friends with nice calm adult dogs and aim to go for short walks after the 16 wk vaccination. I'm not sure if this is anywhere near you but I think for some pups this would be very beneficial. http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/just-walk-me-program-4488.html
  6. Jean Dodds doesn't even advocate not vaccinating at all. Perhaps you should read up on her schedule. It seems the safest of the limited vaccines IMO. Early serious illness can cause lifetime immune problems (this is documented in humans) as well as stunted growth in dogs. Not sure why you would deliberately choose to put your new pup at such a risk.
  7. They obviously don't have a Dog Boarding Establishment licence then? They are not a dog kennel, they are a backyard dog minding business - unregulated.
  8. Yep, it will give you lots more info, and for a heart compromised dog it is generally done while awake. They just have to lay on their side. :)
  9. I had my cargo barrier and gates fitted at the same time by Puppy Bars. If there's no cargo barrier they will just jump over the back seats (well mine would anyhow) unless you want to fold your seats flat so they have double space behind the rear gates? You can find pics on their website but you are best to email for prices in case you want a divider and other extras.
  10. It may be worth doing an ultrasound to gain some more information on how well the heart is pumping, how efficiently blood is moving through etc.
  11. Four days is fine for an injury of that type. Be aware that if you're doing it yourself, paw bandaging has quite an art to it, to get the bandage to stay on. Also you need someone to reliably hold him still while you do it or it will be a nightmare. I would be inclined to say suck it up this time around and pay for the Vet's expertise. Get some pet insurance for the future because dogs are often doing stupid accidents and they could be a sight more costly than this one. I speak from experience.
  12. Unless the 'aggrieved' report it, they're not in any trouble. It sounds as though the 'aggrieved' admitted fault anyway, yes..? There is high tensile chain that can only be cut with an angle grinder, so I assume there are padlocks made of the same reinforced stuff? Hope someone can answer that.
  13. Your post #336 made me think that medication could well be warranted in her case. She would feel like crap all day having to be constantly hyper vigilant or noise phobic - whichever the case may be. When you have a dog that winds up over it's threshold for long periods of time, no learning is occurring. If you are at the stage where you are not getting anywhere, chemical help is needed.
  14. You did say he was a Border Collie didn't you? If he is he has to be the biggest one in the world and no wonder he has aged fast. They usually average 18-21 kgs with the biggest going up to about 26kgs. I thought the same too. i have dogs here that are in prime condition between 40/42 kg so thinking of a BC at the same weight is mind blowing . Maybe its a BC cross BC is listed in the other post of breathing issues Ok...I have no idea.

  16. Some Vet Nurses are also Dog Trainers so it is worth asking about our qualifications first before you write us all off. :p But I do agree that Vet Nurses with no training or behavior knowledge should not be taking Puppy Classes it's too important. It's the most vital stage. To wiggly woofa, your Lagotto needs exposure rather than uncotrolled play. All the Lagotto's I have seen so far have elements of shyness and your dog needs intensive help ASAP. The best place for your dog to be right now is a well-run Puppy School or a well run obedience school with very careful interactions set up with selected adult dogs.
  17. Our dog that had a laminectomy last year got much benefit out of weekly underwater treadmill sessions. Ask your Specialist about it. :)
  18. What size did you buy? I just brought home a large tonight to experiment with the Toller.
  19. The mondeo wagon *looks* bigger than the holden sportswagon but I have only seen them on the road so that may not be true. You need a big burly dude to go with you.
  20. 2tollers on this forum has taught her older Toller girl to live with a kitten. I'm pretty sure the dog hunts rats/mice on their property so it took some management. You might be best to PM her, I'm not sure how often she is on dol these days.
  21. Pain is the number one reason for sudden onset aggression or sight issues, so a very thorough check is warranted. If the Vet wants to run bloods- go with that suggestion too. Checking the ears, eyes and mouth for broken teeth and dental disease is important but my money would be on osteoarthritis and there's plenty you can do for that these days. Don't make any rash decisions, it sounds like you are doing the right thing by taking him for a health check. :)
  22. No video. Pity because after his recall in the am he picked up the marker for the figure of 8 and did a huge zoomie around the ring Hopefully I can make the next trial to video and catch another of those 'exercise finished' performances.
  23. Oh yes, I understand, sorry, I have a copy of fight. But I clumped both into my first paragraph.
  24. I'll be very interested to hear Grisha talk at the APDT conference but I can't agree with that method for fixing Tarzan dogs. Sure, it could potentially help the aggressor, or it could do nothing, or it could make them worse. Just so many opportunities for massive fallout. Also, there's no way I'd let my own beautiful bomb-proof dogs be a part of that sort of situation, why would I ever subject other dogs to it?! It's totally unethical IMO. If you need pepper spray or a break stick then your dog has stuff all bite inhibition. Other dog park people certainly DO mind and won't stand for it as far as I can tell. It's a great way to get dog parks closed down too, when park users start making numerous complaints.
  25. If you do take her and you do stop overnight, and she won't come out of the crate she will have to hold on approx 5 + 8 + 5...might be unreasonable for a kitty. Just a thought.
